West Side Grill - Gilroy Ratings and Reviews
We were seated at a tiny table for 2 next to the windows. There were many open tables for 4, and booths available, but you shoved us in the worst table on New Years Eve. We FROZE at the windows, had car headlights shining at us, and were unable to hear from the volume that surrounded us. I will never go back if you sit us at a tiny table with no room for our food or wine. So rude, hated it!
Even with reservations, we had to wait about 25 min for a table. The drinks came very slow, the food much slower. The food was OK, nothing fantastic that wowed or was different from any other restaurant. It was extraordinarily loud, so conversation at our table was limited to what we could actually hear. It was interesting that someone dropped some food in the middle of the floor, and for 30 minutes I saw it was walked over and around by staff seeing the mess but not bothering to deal with it. Not the best experience I've had here, and certainly not on my regular list of return places.
I do not eat meat for health reasons, but a friend said you had best prime rib. I haven't had any for tens of years, but it was a favorite in the past. I like it rare and juicy. It was borderline rare an a bit dry. The noise level was so high I had to yell for husband to hear me. No nice conversation.
This is the 4th or 5th time I've made reservations through OpenTable for West Side Grill and specified that we are celebrating a birthday or special event. West Side Grill has only acknowledged these special events the first time and since then every reservation is treated like we casually walked in from the street. This particular lunch on 12/15 was notably lacking in attention to the fine details of dining by staff. We had to request for coffee refills, no lemon or appropriate condiments appeared with the Crab Salad... and when asked, we were provided with a couple slivers of lemon rather than a half lemon covered in wrap/cheesecloth (to capture seeds). In addition, when we requested French dressing for the salad, we were given a bowl of au jus. If the restaurant didn't carry French dressing, it's simple enough to say so or offer another option rather than bring something else that was not requested.
We were seated 30 mins after our reservation (and we had arrived 15 mins prior). When we were seated, it was at a table that didn’t accommodate our party, but we made it work. After being greeted by our server, it took 20 mins to get water and bread, and 30 mins for ordered drinks. The food was delicious, but service was subpar. Bussers asking us to pass our used plates to them, rather than coming around, having to request water/bread refills, etc. Not what you would expect from this class of restaurant. It was particularly embarrassing, as this is one of my favorite places, and I brought friends from out of town (who were extremely underwhelmed). I will return (because the food is so good), but recommended management makes sure reservations take priority.
We were well taken care of by the management team, but of course that was after the fact.
Great place to eat, but service was horrible at the least. Oversized blonde waitress in mid 40's was the worst waitress ever. Bread came out during mid meal, didn't get our dinner order correct, waited 20 mins for drinks and was sitting chatting with her friends during busy time in restaurant. No concern for her other customers. GM was oblivious to customerservice. He walked around doing busy fronthouse work instead of doing the job of a true GM and looking at the servers and customers making sure everything is coming together in a timely matter with class A service.
My husband had made reservations for my Birthday. On the menu it states that it has German Chocolate Cake, but it didn’t. Actually, there were only a couple of desserts. The service was not all that good and the food was even worse. We were told that we could order steaks but then told no. I wasn’t made to feel special at all for my Birthday, yet, the table across from us was also celebrating a Birthday and they brought out cake for all at the table and sang.
Needless to say, we were both disappointed.
Thank goodness for reservations. The place was hoppin’. We were seated immediately and our waitperson was right there as soon as we were situated. Since it was Thanksgiving, my wife opted for the turkey special. The turkey was moist and the stuffing was great. I had the pork chops with a side of stuffing. They were juicy and wonderful. There were two huge chops, so I ended up taking one home. We will definitely continue to frequent this restaurant, and recommend it to all of our friends.
Always have a great meal and service at West Side Grill! The Tempura Green Beans for your appetizer are so good, oh my, I could go and just have those with their yummy, warm bread and be satisfied and Happy! Had the Short Run Ravioli and my husband had the Halibut. Both delicious! Service fantastic as always.
This is kind of an odd place. First of all, it is nestled in a business park, which is surrounded by a residential area. Ok, whatever. The restaurant looks very nice. Hostess station gives a nice welcome feel. The restaurant seating is comfortable.
Our servers were very friendly, helpful and attentive. But I'm just not sure about the food! Our server suggested the Tempura Green Beans as an appetizer, which he said were very popular. They arrived in a big bowl, filled with greasy green beans with no discernible tempura and it wasn't served with some yummy tempura sauce, but plain ole yellow mustard. Hmm.
I ordered the Prime Rib Dip. Any prime rib/french dip sandwich should come with horseradish. Right? Nope, had to ask for it and got a funny look when I did. The sandwich was OK. If you like soft bread and cheese on your dip.
My friend had the Ahi Salad. It was good! Great dressing and a pretty big portion. It did have a lot of cabbage, so you need to like that, I happen to like it.
Service is always good, even though we miss Jonathan and Latia. Food is pretty coinsistant but the sauce in the jambalaya pasta has changed for the worst. The appetizers are good, the fried green beans are a MUST!! And save room for desert, chocolate cake and ice cream, yummy...
This was the first time I had breakfast at the west side grill - Well I just have to say, there was just to much food - I love to eat and with food this good how am I ever going to lose weight - I mean, I tried - I got a box to to take some of the food home so that I could eat it for breakfast the next day - Did I? No - I ate it as soon as I got home - It was just plain delicious - every morsel of it - Now I suppose I'll be back every weekend for breakfast - So much for diets - Thanks a lot -
We could be considered regulars. Food and service are always outstanding. This past Friday, one of the specials was cannelloni stuffed with cheese and chicken, surrounded by a sweet corn purée with a splash of pesto. It was one of the best dishes that I've ever had there. I hope they offer it again, soon and often. As always, the lobster bisque was great.
Westside Grill is always a favorite restaurant location for a friends or family get-togethers. The menu offers a lot of options, the food is always fresh and tasty, and the staff is accommodating and pleasant. Whether you want to stop by for drinks and hors d'oeuvres or having a nice, leisurely meal, the restaurant is the perfect choice. Making a Westside Grill recommendation to others is really easy -- once you try it, you will love it!
We had a reservation and when we entered the restaurant we gave our name to the hostess. She sat us soon after. About 30 minutes later my cell phone rings and upon answering that same hostess is calling me to ask if we were going to come to our reservation or not. I advised we were seated in a booth and had already ordered. This is not good customer service since the same person that took our name was the same that called us. The hostesses at West Side do not seem to be into customer service but more of playing around with the other staff. This is not the first time this has happened and talking to friends this has happened to them also. To have people call us to tells us we did not honor our reservations is unacceptable. We waited a while to be greeted by our waitress. Drinks were delicious. Food was great. Customer service definitely needs to be worked on.
Arrived early for our dinner reservation. The hostess asked that we wait in the bar, so we made our way to the bar and ordered drinks. The hostess came and got us ( group of three) and showed us to our table. After 15 minutes of not even being acknowledged I was a bit frustrated. But the icing on the cake is when a group of four who was seated at least 10 minutes after us was waited on first. At that point we left, but not before letting the manager know that if he is going to accept a reservation, he might want to have someone wait on the table.
