As a year-round destination, the West Shore Cafe beckons skiers during the winter months and is mere steps from sister property, Homewood Mountain Resort.
During summer months, the West Shore Cafe's location is ideal for those cruising the bike path, as well as boaters touring Lake Tahoe. West Shore Cafe hosts several buoys, and welcomes boaters and kayakers ashore.
The food and service were excellent. The setting on the lake is always lovely. We stopped going about a year ago as the menu was uninteresting , over priced, and the food nothing special. But since we got a 1/2 off coupon, we decided to give a try and weren't disappointed. The special was elk prepared in Cabernet sauce. Very tasty, as was the sturgeon.
The food, the view and the great staff! Thank you for a wonderful Sunday night dinner!
Loved the food and wine. Great server.
Outstanding- new chef is very good and wait staff very good and very attentive
Great Valentines dinner!
It's tough to have a better place to dine than watching the sunset on Lake Tahoe. Great view, great service and excellent food with a very fine wine list.
The service was on the slow side, we had to wait about 15 mins before anyone even approached our table and the food was only “ok”. I say that because the items I had, lobster bisque and scallops, were on the salty side. The menu is pricey so I was expecting better service and for the food to be better than it was.
Our waiter , Ryan was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The food however was disappointing. The Lobster Bisque was thin and without any lobster meat. Taste was off. The Beet Salad was delicious. I had the Buffalo Meatloaf, the presentation was a mess. The portion was huge but lacked flavor. It did taste better the following day. My wife had the short rib and she took one bite and pushed it away. The menu showed bone in but bones had been removed...odd.
We eat here about twice a year, we’ve had great meals here and some not so good. Beautiful dining room. $25 corkage and one does pay a premium for the magnificent view.
Amazing dinner experience, food was awesome as was the wait staff!
Overall good food and a pretty decent wine list for being in a remote location. However, the vegetarian selection was truly lacking in creativity, flavor and substance... either lower the price point or raise the bar please. They should discontinue using the fake instant cappuccino machine... you're not fooling anyone...here in the Bay Area we all know what good coffee is. And that is not it.
Poor service, cold food
We drove up last night from SF and headed to West Shore for dinner. We've been here many times, more often for drinks on the deck in the summer but dinners as well, and I've never had a bad thing to say about my experience. Last night was awful. The waiter let us know two items were unavailable (calamari and short ribs). Fine. We ordered a bottle of wine (great). We were given water but had to ask for it to be refilled each time. The tables around us were brought bread. We finally had to ask for it. Our appetizer was not good, super greasy. We were getting the feeling this dinner experience was going downhill. For dinner, I ordered the vegetable tart, they were out. My son ordered the chicken pot pie, they were out. My husband got the special seafood pasta which was scallops and prawns in a creamy sauce. The prawns were not peeled. He didn't eat them because it is very difficult to peel prawns in a creamy pasta dish. Disappointing. My husband ordered coffee. He said it was truly awful. I would not suggest anyone go to West Shore for dinner in the winter. I'm hoping this is just a winter / staffing / food issue but who knows.
Ran out of multiple enterees
The salmon dinner was very good. The chicken pot pie was delicious light on the chicken but split was perfect for 2! Our waiter was very attentive and professional. The bar is fabulous and the overall decor is elegant.
Beautiful setting and gracious staff makes this a lovely evening. The fried calamari is an excellent appetizer - great spicy dipping sauce and light breading on the calamari. The buffalo meatloaf was very good but the chicken was over cooked by a lot. It was literally bone dry. I’m writing it off as dining late in the evening and hopefully it isn’t a regular occurrence.
We wanted a romantic dinner for date nite!! West Shore Cafe is the perfect place!!!
West Shore Cafe has stunning views, great food, and very good service. We went there for dinner with my cousins from New Jersey, and it turned out to be in the midst of a thunderstorm and a tornado warning (in Tahoe City and north)! We were a bit late arriving at the restaurant but were graciously received and seated (we did call). The view was amazing due to the storm clouds and light, and there was even a rainbow! We had rack of lamb, a delicious Caesar Salad with Salmon, a Seafood Medley over Wild Rice, and a few other dishes. All were excellent. A good find in the Lake Tahoe area.
Special place with great food and incredible view!
Just another wonderful dining experience. The staff were very attentive.
We went to West Shore Cafe on Sunday, after having lunch at Sunnyside the day before. West Shore was much less busy and it's likely because the food isn't really very good anymore. While the view is great, and the staff is fine, the food has gone way downhill. The Tahoe Salad was nice and fresh and good. The fries were cold and terrible. The fish taco had no flavor at all. Just bland fish, plain cabbage and tortillas. Really weak. The lobster corn dog, while a clever idea was also terrible. Deep fried lobster tail (over fried) with a sad puddle of corn salsa. Yuck.
Great view of the lake, but slow service (cocktails were iced when they arrived). Appetizers were good, but food was tasteless and bland.
When we made our original reservation, we were not told that the dining room was closed and that we could only eat outside on the patio.
One member of our party did not want to eat outside and was prepared to leave. However, the manager on duty asked us to wait just a few moments while he set up a table in the dining room. Bottom line was that we had a lovely dinner, great service, great food and one-on-one attention in the dining room.
Lovely evening out with friends! Great service, Food, Cocktails, Views are absolutely spectacular of the lake. Thank-You Westshore Cafe.
I've been to The Cafe twice this summer and both times the service was VERY slow. The food came out quickly but the drinks and order taking are to slow.
We came by boat and the dock valets were fantastic. We sat outside as the clouds gathered above expecting to have dinner inside. It looked like the rain would hold off so the staff served us outside -- the only table out there. It was fantastic and we thank the staff for allowing us to stay dockside. The food was excellent and we and our long-time friends from the city had a great dinner and time together catching up on life. Dean M
Unfortunately this is second time we had a unremarkable dinner in this upscale place. The chicken dinner sounded great but was dry, over cooked and difficult to eat with all the bones piled high. This isn't hard to get right. Chicken is sacred to great chefs; usually a house specialty! The lobster was also over cooked. Is new chef needed?
So many problems. Slow service. Dirty water glasses returned long to reappear. Flat beer in chipped glasses. Soggy sandwiches - unable to pick up and eat with hands. Skimpy ahi appy served on a plank without plates to eat off of. Fake wasabi and doctored hoisin sauce on the bahn mi lamb sandwich (meat was tough fatty and overcooked). Bus boys didn't understand or speak any English so unable to get the water glasses replaced or get extra napkins. Server never came back to ask about our $80 lunch. The cook (I'm not calling him a chef) needs additional training. The only thing I can say about the food was that the fries were good.
You have done a great Job, it's so much better than in the past few years, keep up the good work.....we'll be back
The chicken at $42 was not very good😜
Should have had the burger at $18
Truly my favorite place on Lake Tahoe. Beautiful setting, wonderful food and service is always outstanding. There isn't a better view on the lake from a restaurant. If you can get a table on the pier it is perfect.
Steak was tough, chicken wasn't cooked all the way and they didn't have dessert because of a wedding rehearsal dinner. Was also told it was 50% off for Homewood employees. There was seven of us and bill was $298.00, with a $42.00 discount. Very disappointed.
Always a favorite. We usually go by boat, and request a pier table. Never had a meal disappoint, and friends talk about the experience as a highlight of their trip.
We loved this place! Lucky enough to get a table on the pier and it was spectacular. We even witnessed a proposal! Food and service was top notch!
Great setting on the water on Lake Tahoe's west shore - outdoor setting lends itself to conversation friendly. The Lake Tahoe Music Festival was performing on the lawn while we had dinner - elegant classical music added to the ambiance. Food experience mixed - Tahoe salad which changes with the season was excellent but large. Burger also excellent. Lobster corn dog had great lobster but we did not eat the breading - why not serve the lobster plain? The hummus was inedible - dark gray color was not appetizing and it was more like olives than hummus (menu should have specified). Excellent desserts. Knowledgeable and friendly servers.
The food was disappointing. The steak was tough and lacked flavor, the lobster corn dog didn't need the batter. It took away from the lobster. I have to say it was a generous portion of lobster, and once I removed the batter it was good. My grandsons cheese pizza was very good. The service was below par. Our waitress was overwhelmed with tables. We asked for a spoon twice, which we never recieved, and our wine was never poured for us. Absolutely the perfect setting on the pier, but was way over priced for the food and service.
Food bet uneven one dish seriously underseasoned
Another had to be sent back to be heated
Third was fine
Waiter definitely phoned it in not at all pleasant
This is an upscale, but casual restaurant. If you can get a seat on the pier in the summertime, I highly recommend because the view is amazing. But there's not a bad view in any seat in the restaurant, whether inside or out. The salads are always creative and made with local and organic ingredients. I had a filet this time and it was cooked exactly as I asked. My husband had the lobster corn dog. Sounds crazy, but he said it was great. We make a point of dining here every time we're in Tahoe.
Seating on a pier on Lake Tahoe is a rare thing, worth a visit, and they have a nice patio too. Nobody was inside for dinner on this August Saturday night. That's for ski season. Heaters along the pier were not close enough to warm the both of us, but tolerable. They were staggered along the sides of the pier but oddly one had its gas hose running across where everybody walked. Big tripping hazard. Hose should run under the pier to come up on the side where the heater was. Male waiter was very impersonal. Didn't get his name but he had a non-US accent, probably European. Food was disappointing except for the great wedge salad. The bison steak on special was huge, done correctly medium rare, but was tough. Would have been excellent value otherwise. The Lobster Corn Dogs on the menu was disappointing - tails with a fried batter exterior that offered nothing except the extra work to peel it off. There should have been more of the nice sauce, whatever it was.
They originally seated us on the pier... After 7pm and already in the 60's with a breeze. Requested to be seated closer to the building, which they accommodated and made a huge difference for our comfort. Service time was acceptable but not really attentive. The food was good, the Tahoe salad and Bison ribeye. The one complaint we would have for the property, and it is big !! The restrooms were worse than most gas station restrooms. They were in poor condition when we first arrived at 7pm and were truly deplorable 2 hours later.
Probably would not bother going back.
We always enjoy taking our guests to West Shore Cafe for dinner. The sunset and alpine glow make this outdoor dining experience truly amazing. The halibut special was perfectly prepared. We enjoyed a bottle of Hahn SLH (Santa Lucia Highlands) Chardonnay.
