West Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
West has always been our goto restaurant when attending the theatre, this past visit (Nov 2017) was surprising as the service was very disappointing. The dinning room was at 60% capacity but for some reason the staff, including the kitchen could not seem to pull it together. We will return in hopes that management can address these issue and return to the five star we remember it as.
I had previously been to West on several occasions for dinner both intimate and with business groups. I was excited to share with an out of town friend over lunch. there were not as many lunch time menu items that appealed to us. we had a burger and an omelette both were good but similar to what we would find at many downtown hotel restaurants which I found disappointing. I also thought that wine by the glass was outrageously priced. In the future I would only return for dinner and will caution acquaintances that might be interested in lunch here if they are not on a business or power lunch.
We have been to West only 3 times but each experience has been wonderful. The only complaint is that we have sat at the same table (coincidentally!) and it is the one at the end of the bar by the kitchen and there has always been a draft and we have always been chilled. Other than that, we will definitely come back, especially for our family's special occasions, and will make sure to ask that we are not seated at that specific table. Thank you.
Second visit here was as good as the first one. Great atmosphere, great service and great food. Very impressive wine menu as well. Brought a friend for a birthday celebration and the restaurant even left a birthday card before we arrived at our table.
Plated the birthday cake(s) I brought. Needless to say we enjoyed the hospitality very much👍🏻
We enjoyed a family Thanksgiving lunch at West on the holiday Monday. We were lucky that the restaurant was available and the options on the lunch 3 course combination were great! The delicious beet risotto could not have been more vibrant in appearance! The lamb meatballs were flavorful. The plum cake was a special combination including lemon whipped cream. I hope our next visit to West can be for the tasting menu options available at dinner including seafood, meat or vegetarian choices.
Went here for Thanksgiving dinner. We chose the tasting menu and the food was great ! Service was also excellent except the waiter charged us for 3 bottles of sparkling water. We only ordered the one bottle but he kept filling our glasses and didn’t ask beforehand if we wanted to order additional bottles. Bit of a shocker when the bill came.
West’s Tasting Menu is our go-to for special occasions. They never disappoint. The food is delicious, they are extremely accommodating with my Celiac/ gluten free diet, and the drinks are fantastic. I love that the tasting options are divided into land, sea or vegetarian, so you can get a menu made up of exactly what you like to eat. The wine pairings are always spot on, and just the right size to be enjoyable but not leave you reeling ;).
We had fabulous service from Paul and they were very helpful about accommodating our food allergies. We loved the ambiance at West and my mom loved her organic chicken dish, but my lamb loin was desperately under seasoned and I had to use a lot of salt to give it some flavor. Overall it was a good experience and we'll be back for sure, I'll just order a different dish next time.
Didn't even realize this great Vancouver classic did lunch. Had the fantastic 3-course lunch that was beautifully prepared and presented. There was one appy that didn't suit my palate. Our server took note I had only pushed it around the plate and so removed it from our final cheque without being asked. It is this kind of preemptive superior customer service that will ensure we return. 10 out of 10.
I don't have a problem paying a lot of money for a meal where the food is fantastic. However, that wasn't the case here, as some dishes were good, some not so good, some mediocre and nothing was fantastic. The scallops were so covered in bacon jam that the scallop was no longer the star of the dish and given it's delicate flavour seemed to be drowned out by what should have been a condiment. The duo of pork also was not well balanced, with two large pieces of pork cheek and only one piece of pork belly. The addition of the bone broth really did not add anything to the dish as it wound up being pieces of pork swimming in liquid, and I wondered why it was even there. Overall, the meal left us feeling disappointed and perplexed. Such a shame since we expected much more from the same restaurant group that owns wonderful places such as Araxi and Bar Oso in Whistler, both of which we really enjoyed.
