West Park Bistro Ratings and Reviews
We opted for a 5:30 dinner. Hardly anyone in the restaurant at that hour. The lighting and ambiance are nice, seating is comfortable and service was friendly and timely. The stuffed chicken breast with provolone was very tasty and more than sufficient. The salmon was cooked just right. The key lime pie was good, but very rich and sugary. It was good, but I'd try something else next time. This is a great spot and we'll definitely return.
We were surprised that the restaurant was mostly empty on a Tuesday night around 7 p.m. Our waiter was very attentive and the food was wonderful. We started with the roasted cauliflower which I didn't care, for but my husband enjoyed. I thought the cauliflower should have been roasted a bit more. I had the pear and gorgonzola ravioli and my husband had the spaghetti and meatballs we were both extremely happy with our choices. The ravioli tasted freshly made and the cream sauce was so delicious I wanted a spoon! The toffee bread pudding was very sweet, but the vanilla gelato it came with offered the perfect balance. While it was delicious, it wasn't the traditional bread pudding I was hoping for. Next time I will order a different dessert. So overall, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere; I enjoyed the fire wall, the food was delicious, and the waiter was pleasant.
My dinner was delicious from the tasty calamari appetizer, yummy arugula & beet salad to the delicious pork chop with sweet potato fries. I was too full for dessert and will have to try that next time. It was also a surprise treat to see a former student, Caesar, as part of the very professional wait staff.
The entrees we ordered (skirt steak, stuffed chicken breast, and prawns linguini) were all very tasty and good size servings. However, the fried calamari was the worst I ever had. Very dry, over-cooked, too salty, with way too many tentacles and not enough of main part of the calamari. Service was very good and I would eat there again, but not order the calamari.
We sat outside on the street side patio, it was a very nice evening. The food was really good, but the service was slow. The appetizer plates are small, so if you are sharing you'll need to think about two portions. The cocktails choices included their own versions of popular drinks, and they were all good. The beer choices could be expanded a bit for those who prefer an ale over a cocktail. Overall, it was good experience and will definitely go back soon.
My salmon was overlooked and had a terrible green sauce on top. When we brought it to the waiter's attention, he totally ignored the issue. We shared a crab appetizer and both had fish. We had no alcohol and the bill was $91.
It’s been 3 months. Great to be back eating at WPB. We had Octopus, Wrapped Dates, Curry Cauliflower, Salmon, & Branzini paired with a bottle of 2012 Chateau La Fiole Du Pape. Usually parking can be a challenge in San Carlos; however, it was very available this Sunday eve.
When I'm in the area for work meetings, I like to take the team to someplace special on our last night; The West Park Bistro is our new favorite. We enjoyed the delicious calamari and crab cakes for appetizers. We each tried something different: Scallops, Skirt Steak, Salmon and I had Chilean Sea Bass. OMG .. it was perfectly prepared, and sitting on a bed of sliced fingerling potatoes, with wild mushrooms and sweet maui onions. I LOVE Chilean Sea Bass, and this was the best I've ever had. Next Team meeting .. we're going here
West Park Bistro is a casual yet classy gem. The food and wine were outstanding and it was the best dining experience that we have had in a very long time. The restaurant is quiet, which is a very much appreciated and rare attribute. The service was impeccable yet not stuffy. Everything was just right!
My friend and I had a very nice time here for her birthday. I would order the chicken in a heartbeat..which I don't normally do at a restaurant. We did sit in the back dining room ,which at first I was pleased as I had not sat there before. I should have scanned the room however and noted a party of about 16 coming and moved to the front. Just the two of us trying to talk very loudly to be heard over the 16.. other people came in and went back out. I have been a hostess and a waitress in my lifetime and get trying to spread out the tables.,but really you should never seat a small party by a large group.. or even in the same room...unless the whole place is going to be packed and everyone will be shouting.
great food though.
I had a delicious dinner and will definitely be back in the near future. We tried the bacon wrapped dates, onion soup, mixed green salad, filet mignon, and the spaghetti. The spaghetti was a pretty small portion, but other than that, everything was really tasty. They have a solid cocktail list (try the mini skirt martini!) and nice patio seating. We were a bit distracted by some other patrons that were loudly playing music from their own boom box on the patio. It would've been nice if the restaurant had asked them to turn off their music.
Nice setting on Laurel. Has indoor and outdoor seating. We got window table that was quiet so we could talk. Server was attentive and provided our drinks promptly. My wife enjoyed a glass of pinot. They had a full serve bar available. The salad was excellent. The ravioli was very good but would have preferred a marinara sauce. Server provided a complimentary birthday dessert. Would certainly return. Parking in the area is difficult. Plan for extra time.
We went on Mothers Day, with a fixed price menu---$36 including a desert. The problem was the quantity of the food was disappointing. There were about 6 items to choose from, I had the french toast, it had fresh berries and little else. I understand the fixed price menu on Mothers Day but the quantity was meager. We've eaten there several times in the past and have been OK, not outstanding. After this experience we will not go back, there are too many restaurants in San Carlos that are superior.
