West on Centre Ratings and Reviews
wish i could give this place zero stars...when we booked the reservation on open table everything was all set...once we got to the restaurant they claimed they didn't have it and made us sit in the BAR...for MOTHER'S DAY! i will NEVER recommend or go there again!
Waiter was absent minded, brought regular coffee after I ordered a latte. We were the only table in the room. Waiter had a flippant attitude. At the end of the meal, I ordered a regular coffee, he didn't bring it, said he was brewing a fresh pot. A different waiter brought the coffee. The pork loin my wife had was fatty and was a "patty" which wasn't what a pork loin is. The vegetarian burger my mother in law had was "terrrible". We spent over $70 which was over priced. I noticed that the wait staff prioritized the bar over the dining room. All in all, I won't be coming back.
Eaten brunch here in the bar several times, and enjoyed it. Came w friends and sat on restaurant side on Sunday. Latish side, 2:30. Water on one of the chairs when we were finally seated. The poached eggs were hardboiled and the over easy were also hard. Steak tips (usually great here) and a different/cheaper cut than usual? Overall a disappointment.
Food was good, I had one of the specials (haddock and potatoes), portion size was good, haddock was very well cooked. Husband had the burger which looked delicious but was more medium than rare which is how he ordered it. Service was unrushed , it was pretty slow on a Sunday at around 4:30 though I feel we waited a good amount which is similar to others experiences. Price was good, we would like to go back for their brunch. Overall experience was average. Certainly not bad but not spectacular either
West on center is a reliable choice for good food and service. Our get together was on st Patrick's day so I made a reservation for mid afternoon to have a meal with a couple of friends. When we arrived we were notified that we would be somewhat delayed in being seated because there was a funeral repast just finishing up. We understood because of course you should.
After waiting a good half hour after our reservation time and seeing multiple people seated before us, some of whom did not have reservations we were finally seated at what I assume they consider one of their best tables. We were approached by our waiter and made drink orders. As soon as our drinks came we ordered our food and appetizers were delivered quickly. One friend and I split the special app of potato spring rolls with a cabbage and kohlrabi slaw and horseradish sauce. Delish! Our orther friend ordered house made guacamole that is always reliable.
Dinner was delivered quickly and one friends fish and chips was perfect. A large portion of fried haddock and crispy French fries along with a portion of coleslaw. She had enough to enjoy and take home for another meal.
Our corned beef and cabbage was interesting to say the least. The corned beef was tasty but quite fatty. The cabbage was red and sweet, someone suggested it was braised with balsamic vinegar which seems likely. The potatoes were the best part of the meal being cooked to perfection. Carrots were sliced so thin as to be insubstantial and adorned the cabbage. We were bothe disappointed in our meal that we had looked forward too.
Suddenly our waiter delivered the check, never having inquired as to if we wanted tea coffee or dessert. We waited what felt like ten minutes before we caught his eye and told him we wanted additional drinks and dessert. The special dessert was a warm apple cake with vanilla ice cream, custard sauce and topped with a brandies cherry. It was the best part of the meal.
We've been to West on Centre several times. Parking can be an issue but we had no trouble on this occasion. The dining room is separated from the bar area. Good thing because the bar was crowded and quite noisy. In the dining room most guests were seated at the far end - the furthest from the bar. This works fine - the noise from the bar is minimal. Service was very good. We were attended to within a minute or so of being seated. Salads at West on Centre are their forte. We shared a collard green salad that was excellent. Highly recommended. I ordered a Rachel which was a reuben but made with fried haddock instead of corned beef. It hit the spot. It was quite substantial so there was no room for dessert this time.
We were 6. Our waiter attentive. However, the food was mediocre at best. Our orders ranged from salmon (considered vg), to several halibut orders (nothing special) to veggie burger (ok), to a cheeseburger pizza (not good). We have been to West on Centre for brunch and it was vg. Dinner, meh.
West on Centre is a great asset to the neighborhood , the food is always well presented , good value and great menu.
The service and responsiveness of staff is great, barside is fun for a quick bite or drink and dining space has nice nooks to have larger groups .
A great asset in West Roxbury
We showed up an hour early for our reservation. (A lot I know). We would either have to wait or they could seat us in the lounge in under 10 min. We took the lounge. The food is delicious and although the lounge is nice I prefer the open dining area on the left when you enter. It's much brighter due to huge windows and the noise level is less although both rooms were packed. Either way great service, great food and definitely a repeat spot.
We went for brunch yesterday and was placed directly under a vent blowing cold air. We asked for it to be shut-off and were told that it couldn't be shut off as it was the kitchen vent, which makes no sense to have it blow into the restaurant. We asked to be moved and then was told they were adjusting the temperature and could move "if that doesn't fix it." I'm not sure why they lied and told us it was the kitchen vent first off, instead of offering to adjust the temperature. I ordered the breakfast burrito without the pico de gallo and sour cream and instead received it with pico de gallo and without cheese.
The server seemed new and as we complained, we watched her go over to the manager on several occasions as we weren't happy and the manager just brushed her off and ignored her.
I would definitely not recommend this place and do not plan on going back.
Food is great. I've dined for brunch and dinner. Brunch is wonderful, quiet even with lots of people dining, tastes delicious, and the natural light that floods into the room makes for a calm and enjoyable experiance.
Dinner is louder, still delicious, and lighting is decent.
Our dining experience on New Years Eve was great! Drinks and food were great as well. Would recommend to spend a night out. Fried chicken platter, steak tips, rib platter, all good sized portions and tasty!! Burger and the soup special chicken sausage and duck were also good
I have written reviews over the past 30+ years for Zagat (NYC and London) and Harden's (London) mainly because I ate at many (200+) restaurants in those two cities over the same period of time. My "search" has been for good restaurants where I felt truly comfortable and well taken care of. Food matters but the overall package drives my ratings. So far my dining out experience in Boston over the past decade has been "mixed" at best with most being in the 3-4 star category no matter what the cost. West in Centre is about as good as they get. The package is definitely "5 star". Yes, the food could be more interesting especially the sauces but for the price, the service, the quality of seating and ambiance, this is fantastic. I commend the people who run the place: they know what they are doing, and they do it extremely well.
We love West! The food is superb and it's awesome to watch the chefs prepare the food too if you get a seat in the main dining room. We brought our mum there for dinner, but we love it for meeting up with friends at the bar. We've also been downstairs for baby-showers and rehearsal dinners before. Love love love!
Disappointing. After having great meals and service the prior 3 times, I brought my family here for an early holiday dinner with my mother (who will be away). The service was slow, some things came out 10 minutes ahead of others, and when my pork chop finally came it was overcooked and the mashed potatoes were luke warm. Appetizer plates were never cleared until the end of the meal. There was also a freezing cold draft near our table in the back left as you walk in...too bad because this had been one of my go-tos. Don't know if they had a change in ownership?
