First time here and it was amazing. Looking forward to going back!
The meal was alright, I got the chicken and biscuits (the breading was coming off the chicken but it still tasted good) and my friend got poached eggs, which were cold.
Great ambiance, excellent food and wonderful staff.
We went for lunch and they had the $12 menu. The food quality was terrible . I always go for dinner and know for sure it wasn't anything close to what you get at regular price . I was very disappointed . A good restouent should not lower quality for price.
Kentish was our server and he went above and beyond for us. Incredible service and food. We will most definitely be back:) Thank you for a memorable evening
Great food, loved the ahi tuna appetizer, mussles, and calamari. No AC, that was quite disappointing on a super hot day
Truly superb meal! the avocado hummus was delicious! Husband loved his soft shell crab eggs Benedict and I loved my asparagus, tomato and goat cheese omelet. The service was exceptional— they really understand how to deliver warm, attentive and authentic service! Highly, highly recommend.
Chinois prawns outstanding. Enjoyed it so much came back the next night, but unfortunately our last night in Vancouver. Food was delicious and the staff very attentive. The only thing lacking was Australian red wine by the glass, but I am bias.
The food and service was good, but nothing spectacular. Tasty food but nothing new and eventful. It's a bit pricey for what once receives- for instance the appetizer of burratta and prosciutto was $17.00 but it only came with six tiny pieces of bread and a teaspoon size of burratta. This is an italian dish- italians love to feast and share their large dishes with the whole family, on the other hand the burratta dish at west oak was served western style which is individual, self-oriented, and small.
Also, I had specified in my reservation that it was my best friend's birthday- nothing came about of this, we still had to let the server know. The dining experience is about not having to ask for things and remind the staff of celebrations, because then what is the purpose of stating the occasion when pre-booking reservations? Service should excel and have finesse- I should not be noticing the server every time they come and giving them reminders.
We visited Vancouver and wanted to try different local restaurants. West Oak in Yaletown was well-reviewed, so we took a chance. The restaurant did not disappointed. Outstanding food. Attentive service. If I had to pick one nit, it was that the Sangria tasted watery. Not a big deal. Otherwise, we enjoyed our meal and highly recommend the restaurant.
Wish there were more vegetarian and vegan options for my friend.
My sablefish is veryyyyyyy salty
Great food and service but wish they had beer on tap.
Wonderful menu with some very interesting starters
Good suggestion for wine` service was so pleasant
Only critism is upon arrival with a reservation on Open Table - no one cared !!Had to ask to be seated or would still be waiting. Next day women phoned me to ask why we had not used our reservation!!! Where was she or anyone else thereto say hello.
In spite of this will definately return for a lovely dinner
Based on various reviews and high ratings, we decided to give the restaurant a try. We were in town from the SF Bay area. We were a group of 4. At first, I found the restaurant to be noisy and due to the tables being close together, some people talk louder than others. I finally became desensitized to the surrounding noise. Our server was excellent with providing us good information on food items and recommendations when we asked. I started with the Caesar salad - the lettuce was very fresh and the dressing was not overwhelmed in taste or amount. There were no anchovies, which was slightly disappointing. The salad was average - not memorable. For my entree, I chose the 8 oz tenderloin. The meat was perfectly cooked to my liking of medium, it was probably one of the best steaks I have ever had - it was beyond tender, and tasteful - memorable! The asparagus that came with the steak was fantastic. I'm not really a fan of asparagus, but this was delicious. My husband had the sable fish which he said was memorable. However for him, the most memorable was the triple-cooked fries. He talked about them all week!! All in all, we had a very enjoyable evening, and I would highly recommend West Oak restaurant. When we are back in Vancouver, it is on our list.
Delicious meal! We went with children and they allowed us to customise a pasta entree for them. Steak was delicious. Sable fish was outstanding!
Food was bellow average but service and ambiance were fine.
Risotto and lamb dishes. Nicely prepared but somewhat bland. Needed seasoning!
My husband had the lamb shank which he really enjoyed. I had the hamburger and it was okay. A bit on the dry side though. The only real complaint was it was too dark. Couldn’t see the menu and couldn’t see our food when it came.
As usual, we weren't disappointed. The service was excellent and the food was delicious. I ordered the scallops with risotto and usually (at other restaurants) it's fishy or dry. This was neither! Sweet and succulent! Id order it again in a heartbeat!
Thank you for a great Father’s Day meal spent with family and friends!
Food was good but nothing exceptional. I fell like I could have eaten very similar items in a number of other restaurants nearby.
Our server was perfect! He had great timing. Attentive but not hovering. The manager also came by to see how our dinner and evening was. We thought that was very nice. The food was great. We ordered the Chinois prawns for our appetizer. For our mains, the lamb shank, sablefish, and salmon. The salmon was tasty but just a bit overdone. We were there celebrating a birthday and they brought a complimentary candle lit dessert. Love the food there and this restaurant is a staple on our list of restaurants.
Perfect birthday celebration dinner! Food was good. Service was exceptional.
We will be back!
Our waitress was great, the food was great, and the music was awesome! Will definitely be coming here again!
Great service! This was for our anniversary and they treated us so well. We were given complimentary bubbly and dessert.
After wanting to try West Oak for several months now, I finally made it there on a Saturday night. Place was busy, and the music was loud. I started my dinner with a garden salad, however when it was brought to me it had dressing when I had requested dressing on the side. No big deal, so I thought. I asked if it was possible to get a new salad, which caused the most ghastly expression I have ever seen at a restaurant. Nonetheless, the salad was replaced. For the main, I ordered their burger which ended up being completely impossible to eat. I have never had amy meat served so burnt, dry, and in capable of being chewed without a struggle. When the server asked if I was finished with my meal, I highlighted that I could not eat anymore because the mail was not very good. Again, a disgusted
expression came from this second server who did not even acknowledge my complaint. He took the food away and brought the bill. Good news is, I reviewed the bill I noticed that the main was deducted. Needless to say, I will not be going back and suggest you don’t waste your time either.
We reserved more than a week ahead to get a table of six and were squeezed into a table for 4 with 2 added chairs. The service made up for the ambience which was too loud and boisterous for chatting with friends with two big groups on either side wildly carousing. Food was decently prepared but pretty standard fare like most of the local chains. Admittedly, we are not the target customer and won't be coming back.
Nice restaurant. Was a bit disappointed we would only have brunch. Omelette was a bit dry, my husband loved his eggs Benny.
Service and atmosphere was great, the waiter ‘Greg’ was very helpful and a top bloke.
I had high hopes for this spot! Great atmosphere and drinks. Food was very over cooked, the crab cakes were so tough I could barely cut through them with a knife and the calamari was like rubber. Portions were smaller than most upscale restaurants and our server seemed annoyed and rude. We ended up leaving and having dinner somewhere else after appetizers.
This hidden neighborhood gem executes really well. Fresh ingredients that are well balanced and perfectly accommodated. Service was great. The venue can be a bit on the louder side, especially on weekends, but otherwise the ambience is quite comfortable.
Very nice. Our guests enjoyed it! Food was great and the service was wonderful.
Honestly excellent service. Friendly servers who took the time to talk. Excellent drinks and spots. Happy hour so best deal for great food that I have had on the city. Will be back
Good Food and service was wonderful. We were a group of 5 that were going to a concert and the cook and service staff made sure we were able to meet our time deadline. West Oak is a go to for good food in a warm, inviting room.
Booked this place for Mothers Day with wife and kids. I have never been here before but always wanted to try.
We arrived for our 5:15pm booking and were seated immediately. The place was not busy at the time as it was still early.
Pleasantly surprised that they still had "Happy Hour" for Mothers Day on a Sunday and we took a chance on some appys. Wow, were we happy we came earlier as these were 50% off + regular portions.
The Mussels + Fries, Prosciutto and the Calamari were all execllent in quality and freshness. I am not a big mussel fan but found myself chowing down multiples as they were fresh, not frozen.
We were probably 75% full by the time we had to order entree.
I just had the lamb shank and the meat fell right off the bone. It is very "gamey" but that's why I ordered lamb.
The desert we had was the chocolate gelato which was freshly made - with actually melted chocolate.
Very impressed with the quality of ingredients, temperature, taste and presentation of the food. The service was also top notch as we did not have to ask for water or refills.
We are already planning to visit again when we are in the area.
The food and drinks were delicious. I just found the service to be slow. Especially considering the restaurant was only 1/3 full.
Birthday dinner for my wife on a Saturday night. Once it got to 10pm the place practically turns from a nice restaurant to a loud bar. Quite an obnoxious crowd appeared behind our table at 10pm on the dot. Before that though the food and service were excellent. Just try to dine and be out before 10pm on a weekend night.
This was my first visit to West Oak and i was pleasantly surprised. We were looking for a place to go and have a few drinks before the Pink Concert and sometimes it's hard to find a place that will take a reservation on an event day. Well West Oak did and we were a party of 6. We came at around the happy hour time started and i was very happy with not only the drinks on their happy hour but also the food items. We picked a few things to share and enjoyed some Coronas on the patio. A great day! I will definitely recommend this place to my friends.
Went for an early Mother’s day brunch. Service and atmosphere was great. Food was average (but only had items off the brunch menu). Will have to try their dinner menu next time
It's wonderful experience. Nice food, friendly staff. Awesome.
