Had dinner before a concert. Great service, good food. Will do this again and definitely recommend to friends
Our menu choice were all delicious. The Brussels sprouts were excellent, the shrimp tacos generously filled, and the short rib sliders tender and flavorful. (I would have sworn the last time I was here, three came with my order. This time, I received two, despite there being three of the long skewers used to hold them together.) While the young lady who took our drink order didn’t know what a Boulevardier was, the bartender damn sure did. Kudos!
The food was pretty good. We had shared the Parmesan flat bread which was delicious and we also got nachos, however, WHERE IS THE CHEESE!? we only had a sprinkle of queso fresco and that is not nachos in my opinion. I received the short rib sliders which were great. My brother ordered the chicken and waffles which he enjoyed. My boyfriend got the grilled cheese and tomato soup. He said the grilled cheese was really good but the soup was not. I tried the soup too and it was very herby. Now I like herbs, but this was like basil overkill. I think they put basil oil or something that was pretty funky and not pleasant. My cousin got the mac n cheese which she complained had too much cheese. For us foodies, that is not a thing, but I must say this was SMOTHERED in half melted cheese sauce. The sauce was too thick and not really saucy. There was soo much coagulated cheese on the plate she ended up leaving about half. We should've saved the cheese for the nachos! haha! To end we got the pistachio bread pudding which was very good. It was hit and miss but overall not too bad.
Great service for all the food & drinks. It appeared at sometimes we've been served by 4 waitresses excellent
it was a beautiful day and great service, great prices at happy hour and i would come back again for sure
Everything was terrific. My wife and friends will be returning very soon.
Great service! Delicious food! Awesome outside table
Great location and first entrance inside the Observatory which was great. Amazing burger with Ahi Tuna and bacon a really good combo of flavors. Service was good but at times would not come back to refill. It was busy though.
Easy reservations and will be back when we are in the area
Went for a good late happy hour so It was great for late night night cap & snack!
From the initial encounter with the door staff and the interaction and attentiveness of the bartender and waitstaff, it was a great experience.
Perfect for dinner before a concert. Highly recommend. They get really busy, though, so be patient.
Amazing food and service. It is loud, so I wouldn’t recommend if your looking for quiet conversation, but great for a party atmosphere
It pains me to write less than stellar reviews. The food service world is brutal, and each establishment (and all of their staff) is doing their best to give great food and service to their customers every single day. That being said... we went to WCT for dinner and drinks prior to attending a show at the Observatory. I was excited because of their happy hour (4pm to 7pm!) and easy/early access to the concert venue. The experience just wasn't great, tho. Getting seated was an ordeal (host was far more focused on a private party), our server had to be flagged down by another staff person every time we needed something, our table was so close to the other tables we kept bumping into other people, the happy hour menu is so limited it's not really worth it, and the drinks are crazy expensive. The concert venue is amazing, however, and the drinks inside the venue are quite affordable. I'd go again - but with much clearer expectations for what the restaurant has to offer.
Enjoyed dinner before seeing The Head and the Heart. Great meal and drinks, very much appreciated the happy hour prices. Will definitely be back!
I was slightly worried when we arrived as it was rather empty but I soon realized it was a tad early. Within half an hour people were arriving and the environment was fun and relaxing for Saturday morning brunch. We made a reservation and were seated right away. Great food and great service :)
The loaded nachos with fries were delicious and you can’t beat $15 bottomless mimosas! The patio was a lovely place to eat brunch on a sunny Saturday afternoon!!
This place was very convenient if you are going to a show at the Observatory. The food was good and had variety. The staff was friendly and surprisingly efficient considering how crowded it was. The major downside is the noise level. It was very difficult to have a conversation due to the loud echoing noise from conversations.
It was a full house for the show, so tavern was a little stressed. Our server, Jada, did a great job, was as attentive as could be. Food was served with little wait, was tasteful and plentiful. It was great since we only had to walk 30feet to get into the concert hall.
Loved this place! The policy that the people who eat at the restaurant get in to the show an hour earlier than the general line outside is false, but it is true that the restaurant doors open before the general doors do. Great food and prompt service. Will definitely be coming back!
Great service. The food was delicious and the prices are reasonable.
Enjoyed our first time there on Father's Day. DJ was playing tunes, service good, food and drinks were good too. Try the mimosa flight!
Brunch was amazing! Food was delicious and servings were large! Great location and service!!!
Making a reservation is a good idea,it's busy but worth it. Reasonably priced items. The staff are very nice and our waiter was funny and knowledgeable of the menu. I will absolutely be back!
It was great! The chicken and waffles were soooo good
I was looking for a restaurant to go to for my wedding anniversary, not in busy downtown SD. Discovered West Coast Tavern on yelp and was not disappointed! It was quiet when we arrived and we had the inside dining area all to ourselves. Things did get busy later in the evening since they had a DJ later that night. Took advantage of their happy hour when we arrived and ordered dinner after. Everything was soooo good! The Brussels sprouts were my favorite! Their flatbread was yum and pistachio bread pudding was the best way to cap off the evening. Service from Emily was good! I will definitely be back and bring all my friends!
Decent place for a bite to eat before a show next door. A bit overpriced food wise. $14 for two sliders and a huge handful of fries. I’d rather have less fried food and one more slider - or make it a burger. Wings were delicious!
Outstanding brunch! Can’t wait to go back. Food and service were excellent.
good happy hour deals, dispite an little issue with bill we was good. good service and great location
Graduation celebration! Tara was great!! Food was great!!
I can always count on West Coast Tavern when I am craving a mule or a night out, delicious food and drinks!
Made a reso for 5 for Mother's Day but showed up with 8 and they accommodated us no questions asked. Super friendly staff and comfortable space. Mimosa flight was delicious!
Food was good, service was good, noise level insane!
We found West Coast Tavern as a recommendation on Thrillist on a trip to San Diego and I cannot understand how it landed on that list. To begin, the restaurant never picked up the phone when we tried to call ahead several times, despite being nearly empty when we arrived at 10:30am for brunch. The menu is out of its league in terms of overpricing food. $18 avocado toast is what I expect in SoHo in NYC and at least there it tastes good. Here, the food didn’t even approach a mediocre quality. We ordered the toast flight as an appetizer: truly bad. My chilaquiles: not only bad, but half way through the meal I found a giant, coarse, black hair with the cuticle still attached. This instantly turned my stomach. I sent it back to the kitchen and couldn’t eat anything for the rest of the meal. My friend ordered the burrito and just from looking at it, we were both repulsed by how disgusting it was. All in all, I haven’t had such a bad meal in quite a while. And in terms of ambiance, trashy patrons and a grimey restaurant.
Everything was great!!
Only problem was that they made us go around the building for the concert.
One of the main reasons that I reserved a table was the convenience of not having to go in line for the concert. Disappointing.
Other than that, great experience.
This place isn’t terrible but I can’t recommend. Had an Easter brunch reservation in place for more than one month. Arrived and were greeted by a “bouncer” checking everyone’s IDs. Was seated at a highboy four top with backless bar stools smack in front of a DJ. I asked for another table and the hostess replied that the other tables are being held for reservations- when I reply that I also have a reservation she can only offer outside seating. It was about 60 degrees this morning. They were completely unapologetic and I guess truly felt it was appropriate to seat older people in backless bar stools in front of the DJ. The food was ok, nothing special. The waitress we had was very good and her name was Gina S and snaps to her. Skip this place and head to Breakfast Republic which is far better on all accounts.
We ate before The Interrupters show. We had ten people in our group and had a lot of fun while eating delicious food.
Food was great
The staff was amazing and very helpful. Food was great!
Always amazing! I love the service
