We decided to have brunch/lunch before attending a matinee across the street. We were seated right away and had a very pleasant server. While there were some brunch specials, the menu was more lunch than brunch, but still had some good choices (including a very nice omelette). The service was quick without being rushed and we had plenty of time to get to our show. Prices were very fair for the location and quality.

I've been here at least 6 times, consistently great food and service. Given its location (near Times Square), it is a breath of civility. Most patrons are local New Yorkers not tourists, so that says much. We've enjoyed a number of dishes, I do wish they would bring back the black pasta with shellfish! But the burgers, other pasta dishes, and other dishes are all winners. Great quality ingredients, prepared well. The grilled octopus appetizer is superb. And the salads are generous, enough for 2 people. The ice cream sundaes are a popular dessert, but frankly I'm not too much of a dessert person so I can't comment other than I've seem many enjoyed by others.

Service is very good, great that they ask if you are seeing a show and the time of the show, but if the server forgets to do this let them know and you'll get out on time. But also not be rushed, so appreciated.

The also have a very small theater in the basement, not related to the restaurant, I have to get there. Heard that the late Joan Rivers performed there regularly, trying out material.

Thank you very much for your continued patronage and compliments, MAES. I loved the House Made Black Squid Ink Linguini w/ Rock Shrimp, but it didn't sell very well. Perhaps we will bring it back soon. Yes, Joan Rivers performed over 200 times in our Laurie Beechman Theatre, trying out new material. It was her laboratory. She was a very generous person and we miss her dearly. Best to you, Steve Olsen

The food was very good. The restaurant was quiet enough to easily have a conversation and because we were not going to the theater the pace was leisurely and we were not at all rushed. I enjoyed the risotto but I almost attached my friends rigatoni because it looked so good. He said it was delicious.
I thought my wine was a little too pricy but it was delicious.

I will definitely go again and hopefully the rigatoni will be on the menu.

My mom, sister and I stopped by the West Bank Cafe today for lunch before heading to our play. We all loved our entrees (I had the most delicious chopped salad with salmon). Our waiter Justin was great - super attentive and our entrees came out in a timely fashion.

The butterscotch/caramel pudding is TO DIE FOR! I might have to make a special trip back there just to order that again.

I'd also like to give a shout out to the hostess (wish I had gotten her name) who was super sweet and professional.

Highly recommend West Bank Cafe which is also super convenient to Broadway shows.

Would recommend to a friend for of it’s convenient location to W. 42nd St. theaters. However the last time I was there it appears that they were severely understaffed. We got our order but small details like coffee, salt, pepper, and sugar seemed to take forever to receive after being requested. Waiter was vacant and lacking personality. I believe this was because he was simply overworked. We felt under-appreciated and unnoticed.

Overall I think this longstanding pre-theater spot is serviceable; nothing fancy on the menu, but it's solid and serviceable. Probably best to choose the $38 price fixed app., entree, and dessert, as my wife and I opted to dine a las carte and wound up paying about $80 per person (including tip). I would've felt better about the middle of the road ambiance, service, and food if I walked away feeling like I got a little bit of a deal, even though I'm not really a fan of prixe fixed menus. West Bank is not the most creative choice for pre-theater, but you amy bump into a few creative artists types; as I was waiting at the bar some writers and directors of shows were dining together. Don't hesitate to book this reservation, unless you're looking for something that feels special or a little more upscale.

Thank you for your patronage, Robert C. Our check average runs about $45 pp for dinner, $25 for lunch. I'm sorry you felt like you didn't get your money's worth. My intention from the beginning has always been to create a menu that is affordable to most budgets, from unemployed actors to affluent theater goers. Steve Olsen
