After going to the trouble of searching for a great place to take my best girl and placing the reservation on line to include two nights in the town at a good hotel, I discovered upon arrival from signage in the town the resort containing Wendals was completely closed for two weeks. To add tomy disgruntal no notice via text or e-mail, or phone was sent to us at all. then to top it off "open table" has the audacity to rrequest a review. Who should I blame the resturant, the resort or open table?
It is not possible to criticize this restaurant.. they do everything right... table with view of the lake, great service, best food around and great guitarist. We will return again and again.
Delicious food and excellent service-I took one star off of food because of their limited menu we could not get our FAVORITE dessert-Bananas Foster😢 Breathtaking views and entertainment
I had a wonderful experience for my birthday. The view was spectacular from our window table. Dinner was delicious, warm bread, buttered scallops & lobster tail superior. Creme brulee with berries divine. I would definitely come back again. Thank you Wendell.
One of the best places I have gone to eat! Amazing service and amazing food!
The quality of the food is substandard , not what it used to be and the service is not fine dining level like it was in the past
Our table overlooked the lake and mountains. There was an excellent musician playing guitar. The filet Mignon melted in my mouth. My wife's salmon was cooked perfectly. Dessert was delicious. The potato and pasta side dishes were too heavy, but that is my only criticism. Server was excellent and a decent value for the money considering the quality of the food.
the service was really great we enjoyed our table by the window the food was placed on the dish nice
We have eaten at Wendells many times and have never been disappointed. Food is great and service is friendly and professional. Always look forward to our next visit
Wonderful place to celebrate a special occasion. Great service and delicious food even with the limited menu they had to offer because of Covid. We celebrated our anniversary and had a great time.
Amazing the steaks have so much taste
Staff was great amazing views
Our first trip here to Wendell's and Inn of the Mountain Gods, thoroughly enjoyed the day here and dinner. Beautiful view of the lake, food and service were outstanding.
Had only been here for brunch before never for dinner. Will definitely come back. A good variety on the menu. Recommend this place.
My husband & we’re celebrating our 44th anniversary so our visit was a very special treat. Our waiter was one of the best we’ve ever had! He immediately asked if we were celebrating & offered his congratulations. We both had steaks & I added a lobster tail. Delightful-cooked perfectly! Our meal ended with a complimentary creme brûlée. It too, was delicious. The prices are rather high, but this was a special occasion & we wanted a great experience. BTW: the night we visited they had a single guitarist playing. It was the prefect addition to our special evening! I am recommending Wendell’s! Let them help you celebrate a special occasion or just an ordinary day. I doubt you’ll be disappointed!
Awesome food!! We had Joe as our server. The food was fresh and delicious...the cocktails was perfect asoi. We watched the sunset on the lake about 708 pm
We never got waited on in 30 minutes of being there. We decided to just walk out.
Great music and not too loud. Food was some of the best we’ve ever had.
The shrimp and crab martini is spectacular, and our main course of filet topped with a crab cake was scrumptious! The service is always outstanding and the guitar player in Friday’s and Saturday’s is so talented.
As a local resident of Ruidoso, when guests come to visit, Wendell’s is a must. The elk is amazing and the view is beyond your wildest imagination.
Anniversary dinner. Elk Tenderloin was great! Service was good and enjoyed the evening. Will go back.
My husband and I never miss a chance to dine at Wendell’s. As usual, we enjoyed the meal and the experience. Our favorite, this trip, was actually dessert!
Banana Foster was on point!
We will be back!
Very impressed with the quality and value. Service was wonderful and had live music as well. They were busy so I was glad to have made the reservations weeks prior to our arrival.
Scott was amazing. He helped me find the perfect wine for my salmon. He was great at answering all of our questions and offering information in general not just on menu items. The guitarist was by far the best I've heard live. The food melted in our mouths and was so rich and delicious. It's always a pleasure to dine with them.
Made a reservation and the staff was prepared for us. Services were excellent. Food was very flavorful and cooked to perfection. Will do this again.
The potato-leek soup was really bland so we sent it back - but everything else Filet, Lobster, Asparagus) was awesome! Loved the guitar music in the restaurant too!
I recently had dinner on Valentine's evening with my husband. I am stationed at Fort Bliss and after 4 months if not seeing each other this was supposed to be a special reunion. I made a reservation for 9oclock and we arrived promptly in time. We were not made to feel welcomed when we arrived. The server was not very knowledgeable of the menu and was not very friendly. I ordered one glass of wine and he brought the wrong bottle. I ordered an appetizer with braised artichokes and prawns, however I did not see a single parent on the dish. I requested a salad and he never brought that to me. The grouper was very fishy and undercooked and I did not eat my plate. In addition, I observed other servers bringing roses to the female guests at their tables and I didn't receive one. I was very disappointed and will never dine there again.
My husband and I dined at Wendell's for Valentines Day and I am sorry to say, but we won't be going back. The food was mediocre at best. My steak was half fat and my husbands fish was 4 inches of fish! The sides for the fish were good but the side for the steak was awful! Tasted like lemon oatmeal. The dessert of pear tart was also not good - tough crust and hardly any pears on it. The ice cream was tasteless! The menu was limited for the holiday and so one would have expected it to be special and delicious; it most assuredly was not. Being that this restaurant was at Inn of the Mountain Gods, staff could care less whether or not you enjoy your food or not. Save your money!
Food was horrible, steak was advertised as a dry aged steak and it wasnt. I have had plenty of dry aged steaks and this one was no where near that. The sides the dinner came with were also horrible. My ribeye was half fat which i didnt eat along with the sides. The best part of this whole experience was the side salad the meal came with and the water. Will never be back again and i hope others will learn from our mistake and not go either.
Service and food were great. Only complaint was the noise above us was a little loud. Sounded like casino machines above us we could hear. Other than that, all was great! Keep up the good work and food guys.
We had wonderful filets and sides. The off menu dessert was a bust. Ordered a Raspberry Souffle and although the kitchen knew it was a no go, it was still presented to us.
The server was a bit on the cold side and did not look in on us much. We requested a window view and guess her tables were on the other room side.
The food was delicious and the server, Patrick, anticipated all of our needs. Our drinks never went dry and he never had a problem when we requested anything from him. Great service. Have to admit, we went back on Monday to try the breakfast, the burrito was delicious and once again had the greatest service ever. Lorraine was awesome! To Patrick and Lorraine, thank you for making our experience at your restaurant an enjoyable one.
Steak was horrible and cheap!! We did not eat it! Crab was fair.
Went to enjoy my birthday with friends. The wait staff was very professional. The food was excellent. My only complaint, which I did not bring to anyone's attention, is that I ordered a lobster tail to be added to my entrée. I received a small lobster tail cut in half and was charged $33, I wouldn't do that again. The guitarist, Gurarado, made the entire night. The music was outstanding. His talent and song selection was superb. We all felt like we were at a dinner show in Las Vegas.
We enjoyed our meal and our server was great too . The steaks were spot on and cooked as requested when often they are too rare or over cooked . We did take our children age 6 and 12 . There is not a lite or kids menu so be sure your children are not picky eaters and/or willing to pay full menu price for their meals . We opted for the smaller filter mignon for our 12 year old and a salad and side dish for the 6 year old which was perfect.
Best breakfast around in a great setting.
Delicious food and excellent service
Perfect for New Years Eve. Even our kids enjoyed it.
Yummy food and excellent service. Special New Years menu.
We have eaten here several times and the food and service is always excellent. They have some unusual food and drink options. They are priced high but for us it's worth it.
The service was terrible. Our server was awful, things on the menu we ordered were not available (my son ordered a mojito & 20 minutes later was told they “didn’t have them”, two of us wanted to order the 6 oz. filet and were told “they are out” and could only order the 8 oz. Really?!?!?!?) our food was not hot but had good flavor. My asparagus was awful. It was a terrible experience! And being from out-of-state AND it being Christmas made things worse!
