The seafood here is delicious. I hiiighly recommend the king salmon. It's flavorful and cooked perfectly. The wine list is solid too. The Joel Gott Cabernet Sauvignon was fantastic. For dessert, the chocolate flourless cake cannot be beat. The service is also excellent and the outdoor patio is dog friendly.
I have been here a few times over the years and the food was always excellent. This time it was hit and miss. The butternut squash soup, roasted artichoke and Brussels sprouts were great. The scallops were bad. Over cooked and I didn't feel well a few hours later. Chicken dish also over cooked/dry.
My godson (who is vegetarian) and I celebrated his sixteenth birthday here with Sunday brunch. We loved our truffle fries, and he seemed happy with his Texas toast grilled cheese and house salad. I was very happy with my crab Benedict -- nice lumps of crab with every bite. Service was irregular, we had to ask for and wait for our iced tea refills, and there was no special treat for the birthday boy. But I still think this is one of the two best restaurants in our fair burb.
We regularly eat at Wence's and love it. Saturday night was clearly an off night. I had eaten here on Thursday night and had the special Halibut dish which was delicious. However, when I came back on Saturday and had the special again, it was half the size and loaded up with couscous and vegetables with a VERY small piece of Halibut. For $34, I expected a meal just like I had earlier in the week. Nevertheless, we will be back. They have a great happy hour and the staff are lovely. Lobster chowder is fantastic.
My son and I on a Friday evening. Son had a seafood and vegetable dish. I had the halibut special. He had onion soup while I hadlabster chowder. He had one cocktail. I had one glass of wine. We also had an order of crab cakes and a garden salad. With the exception of the salad virtually every dish seemed drenched in a greasy sauce or coating. We literally had a greasy sensation on our tongues when we finished and went home. $157 plus tip. Service reasonably good. Better food for lesson many other places. Overrated.
Was surprised the waitress did not ask if we wanted more wine. We brought the first bottle.
Not sure if they serve desert but she did not ask if we wanted anything else?

The food is always good but be prepared for a noisy environment. Lots of locals, families, and the energy is high, which we don't mind but if you want a quiet and/or romantic spot then Wences is probably not the best choice. They have a wonderful seafood selection. Our service has always been very good and attentive. Parking may be an issue because the area is popular but be patient and a place will open up. The outside dining is "storefront" and a nice option, especially if you want a quieter and more intimate dining experience.
The first time I went, met a friend at 4 pm on a Friday and it was great sitting in the bar at the open doorway so that we were part inside and part outside. Too hot to be outside that day. This meant we could have a conversation and hear each other. The inside restaurant is very noisy - Not knowing we arrived for happy hour which meant that drinks were Very reasonable and an incredible salmon dinner with a big salad for only $20.00 Wine was 5.00 and mixed drinks I think were 7.00 during this 'early bird/happy hour time line. Great people watching - really great service - delicious food - in the neighborhood but the feel could be 'downtown'
First time dining bat Wences and was a pleasant experience. Food took a little while to arrive at our table, but you could tell that they aren't just throwing food on a plate for you. Presentation was OK.
The food was OK. Nothing fantastic, but was decent enough. Better than most.
The food was delicious. Seafood was very fresh and everyone was pleased. The lobster chowder is excellant. The service needed improvement. We had not finished our soup before our main course was on the table and used dishes were not cleared away to make more room. We each had a cocktail and the empty glasses remained the entire meal. The table was very crowded. The server brought our bill, said "no rush" and after bringing it, asked if we wanted to see a dessert menu.
It was also very loud. High ceilings, hard floors all made for difficult conversations, and we were in the room away from the bar, which was twice as loud.
Extremely noisy inside the main dining room. The walls are concrete so every voice bounces off the walls. The entrees were good (had the lobster tacos and scallops), but the desserts were outstanding (berry cobbler and flour-less chocolate tart). The first cup of coffee was lukewarm, but the waitress had no issue w/quickly making us a fresh pot and it was delicious.
I've been going there since they opened and the owners are wonderful and hard working. Most of the food is delicious except their Brussels sprouts. The only problem is that it's so very noisy unless you can sit outside. You have asked and I truly want them to be successful. I realize many restaurants are noisy but there were five us and could not hear each other.
The calimari steak sandwich was good, but the calimari was too tough to eat as a sandwich, so I had to take it apart and cut the fish with a knife. My friend had the same sandwich but hers was not tough. We love the ambiance and the menu and the drinks. A fav of ours.
