Wellington Court Restaurant + Catering
Disappointing. Came here on Valentine’s Day and it appeared the restaurant was overwhelmed. When we entered, there was no one to greet you and you stood around until somebody called your name. We’re seated on the second floor, and it felt like a second-floor dining room that lacked the ambience of the first floor. The poor and slow service dominated our dining experience unfortunately, because the food at the restaurant has always been respectable. We have been coming to this restaurant for probably 15 years when Eric and his mother ran it. Currently there doesn’t appear that anybody is in charge.
This was our first experience at the Wellington court Restaurant. It was evident from the beginning this restaurant is not able to manage the capacity of a holiday celebration (Valentines Day). We sat at the bar when we first arrived due to the line up coming in behind us. No drink order was taken, we were seated at a table opposite to the front door (recommendation don’t sit at that table on a cold night). It was freezing and kept my coat over my shoulders the entire evening. It took almost 20 minutes to be offered a glass of water. When we finally got to order the wine there was no white Pinot Grigio on the menu! Who doesn’t offer Pinot? We did get a rose which was delicious ! Forty minutes in and we were finally asked for our order for apps. We ordered our apps waited another 25mins and watched tables around us receive theirs that was seats after us. Finally the apps arrived! What?? They are the wrong ones! Lots of apologies! We suggested we order our main meal because we weren’t sure how long that would take. When we got our meal finally!!!! The evening turned around from misery to amazing because of the food. We had a young couple next to us and we had great conversation and laughs listening to them at the stage of young parents to our stage as what we would call young grandparents. The evening came to a close and we received our bill and no apology for all the unpleasantries in the beginning no offer to of a small % off our bill for the inconveniences. Just a very large bill. Will we return yes maybe but the Wellington would not be our first place to go for a celebration night unless they revamp their planning and the ability to serve their capacity. If a restaurant is taking reservations then then they need to be prepared to provide the ultimate experience. We would not recommend this restaurant to family and friends due to the inconsistently of our one and only experience.
Fantastic as usual
Great food, nice vibe for a romantic dinner!
Excellent food, pretty good service for a busy night! Little expensive for portion sizes.
The restaurant was great and we would revisit again. The staff were beyond amazing. We were stuck in traffic and they pushed our reservation back by 1 hour despite being Valentines Day. The decor and overall feel was modern and fresh. The food was good. The calamari was delish! The lobster was a bit on the salty side for our taste and the strip loin was jus an average streak and sweet potato fries. We had a show to get to and sadly we were unable to taste the desserts. I am sure they would have been incredible.
My one critique would be that anyone in heels, the laminate floor in the bathroom area is like a skating rink .... wow! I looked like Bambi! Also, where the kitchen door is a caution sign needs to be placed. I was almost taken out by the door ... it gave us a good chuckle!
Overall, when in St. Catherines we would go again and would highly recommend.
Excellent place to treat your date or special other.
First time. Although we enjoyed our food, we found the service to be average. It was acceptable but not terribly friendly. At no time during or at the end of our dinner did anyone check in with us as to how we were enjoying our meals. I only ate less than half of my dinner which normally results in being questioned as to anything being wrong, I was asked only if I wanted to take it with me. Disappointed.
Birthday dinner with family and friends. Excellent service and food!
Always a pleasure having a fancy dinner or a delicious, casual lunch!
Always a great meal. Both the burger and the steak fritte were excellent
We ordered a dry red from Big Red Cellars. Two of us chose a Caesar salad, which was freshly made with real bacon and tasty dressing. The third person in our group picked the beet salad and said it was absolutely delicious. I also enjoyed the seafood dumpling appetizer, served in a tangy broth. All three of us chose the duck breast for the entrée, which was fantastic, served with a side of glazed brussel sprouts, all perfectly done. Dessert was carrot cake and a hazelnut torte with a smooth chocolate sauce, none of which was too sweet. Really enjoyed our visit, and found the service to be timely, but never felt rushed. We really enjoyed our evening and would definitely recommend this.
Excellent fine dining experience and atmosphere, at a reasonable price also. Absolutely loved the sticky toffee pudding, will be back and will definitely recommend.
Always incredible time at Wellington Court! Great place!
Eric is one of our premier chefs. Great dinner
Still one the best in Niagara. Eric and his crew continue to consistently amaze. Well done!
Did not meet my expectations. I ordered the steak which tasted like lamb and was not a very good cut. The polenta was very sloppy and not much flavour - the salad added to the plate made everything taste of vinegar - so disappointed. However, my friend had the chicken and cleaned his plate - it was very good. I also had the beet salad which was awesome and my friend had the calamari with he thoroughly enjoyed. The service was perfect!
First rate after all these years. Beautiful good. Terrific service!
Wellington Court is always delicious. My favorite restaurant in Niagara.
The Service and Food were outstanding. The ambience was quaint and cosy with sufficient lighting to set a good mood for myself and the rest of my party. They have an excellent selection of drinks and are very attentive to your needs.
Excellent food. We have enjoyed Wellington Court for many years. I don't think I have ever been disappointed. Wonderful spot for any celebration.
Simply wonderful. Excellent food and first rate service.
Nice ambiance and dishes were well prepared. Friendly and attentive service.
We have been here several times and are always impressed. The staff are delightful, well-organized, and the kitchen staff deserve big time kudos; our meals were excellent!!! We'll keep coming back here.
The trout was outstanding vegan entree also yummy. The server was kind but it was surprising to not have gluten free options. Probably would respectfully suggest more attention to that and asking about allergies or intolerances. We were the only diners on this midweek night
The service and the food was excellent! We had 3 courses and everyone exceeded my expectations. Unfortunately, the noise level from a large table in the front room was difficult to ignore. Sometimes, I could not hear my partner. A glass partition or separation from the front room is needed.
Overall a very nice experience. We ordered fish and chips , had to look for the fish, smallest serving anywhere.
Always outstanding - food, service, ambiance - a gem.
Wellington boasts a lovely intimate feel, with sophisticated, modern touches. My server, Shelley, made me feel as though I was being served by an old friend - she was warm, attentive, and knowledgeable. The food did not disappoint! Innovative choices, balanced flavors, perfectly seasoned, and plentiful portions. Will definitely return.
We have eaten here many times but it seems the quality and value has fallen. I ordered a Ribeye steak that was very thin, tough and way over salted. My wife's fish was just ok.
The fish special entree at $30 was too expensive for lunch.
One small criticism...broccoli was very over-salted, could not finish. My husband’s steak as well was quite salty. My husband likes salt but could not finish his steak or fries because there was too much salt.
Very nice - food pretty good - great service was dead when we went but quaint
Great food and service. However the music on the patio was way too loud.
Great spot for dinner. I am a big fan. The pasta dish was amazing. Cheers
Superb in every way! Do not miss! Roasted squash entree was subtle, very unusual and more than filling. Duck entree made to perfection. Appetizers were very unique and complimented with flavorful sauces. Desserts did not disappoint. Wine suggestions added the perfect note to meal. Service warm friendly impeccable
The patio is so lovely . What a relaxing evening although some cushion on the chairs would be welcome . I had the Manitoulin Trout and it was delicious . I would have been happy with less grains though and just some simple greens it was so filling . The Kale salad was also amazing
Made reservation last minutes and arrived just before closing time. Chef was nice to reopen kitchen and served us a fabulous meal.
Amazing experience and made us feel comfortable. Food was delicious and they were accommodating of our special needs.
Great food, attentive service and nice atmosphere
