As always dinner was wonderful. Very sad that they are closing, we will miss the wonderful German food
The Gasthaus has bee a favorite restarauntCynthia G for us. We will miss it greatly.
After 33 years of service the Gasthaus in now closed as of June 27, 2016. A true Waukesha
A really special place...very good food. We used a gift card received for Sharon's retirement. Too bad it's closing and being demolished.
Have enjoyed many dinners here. Unfortunately it's last day of business is Saturday 6/25/16. Not for lack of business.....it is a family and estate thing. So sad to see a strip mall and panda express going in where this stately lovely German influenced restaurant is located. Made that part of the neighborhood unique.....now the intersection will be blah! :( Really REALLY sad to see. Another gem gone.
I understand that they are closing June 25, 2016. Sold out to a strip mall and a Panda
Sorry to see this restaurant go, food was good, Cesar salad was a under par, which is why 4 star rating, rest was excellent.
A really great German restaurant. Too bad they are closing.
Avoid the Haxen, no flavor and not crispy. The server described it as "authentic", I suggest a trip to the Haxenbauer in Munich to see how the dish should be prepared.
We requested a table by the fireplace which our granddaughter loves. It was her birthday.
Gasthaus is a great German go to staple. Food is always consistent but for Mother's day the brunch was not the greatest. I strongly recommend the restaurant normal menu or great bar menu
We hadn't been to the Gasthaus in many years. What a treat it was! The bartender was welcoming and cheerful, the host, delightful as we requested a later seating to be able to watch the Kentucky Derby. Food was delicious, the flatbread a most delicious surprise. Good German food is sadly hard to find in the Milwaukee area these days, and Gasthaus did not disappoint. We'll be back to enjoy outdoor seating when the weather cooperates.
A gastronomic and visual feast. Worth the cost and worth the effort to travel miles for a dinner.
My wife and I had been hungry for prime rib, it was worth the wait. Our meal was excellent and our waitress Heather made it even more enjoyable.
The pork chop special and the sausage feast were both outstanding. We are never disappointed when we dine at the Gashaus and brought friends with us on this occasion.
Glad we were able to make a late-notice reservation here. The place was quite busy, but the family-style brunch was brought out in a very timely manner, and all of the food was fresh and very good. The Weissgerbers consistently do things well.
My wife and I celebrate all the holidays here We had our first meal there as a married couple Great sauerbraten!
Just a great dining experience. We were seated promptly with a reservation.
Our food was excellent, and our waitress was very good.
Cozy, relaxing atmosphere. Excellent service and delicious food. I had salmon with risotto and wilted spinach. It was excellent! On the expensive side, but was exactly what my husband and I were wanting for a rare evening out!
The duck was dry, the schnitzel lacked taste, the ribs were too smokey and the sausage when first delivered was cold. Very disappointing!
The food was decent, but I remembered it being better when I ate here a year ago. My wife's steak wasn't cooked how she asked. A little over half of my sampler platter was sauerkraut, they skimped on the meat. Our waitress was OK, but brought me the wrong drink. The host didn't seat us until half an hour after our reservation time. He did not apologize for the wait or offer drinks, and had an attitude like he didn't want to be there. The bartender ignored one couple until they got up and left the restaurant, then he actually complained about them being impatient to the other patrons. He didn't even realize they were there until they left. This place is being run by people who hate their customers.
I have visited Weissgerber's several times in the past and was very satisfied. It had been approximately two years since my last visit. Having lived in Germany for over a decade, I appreciate a good German meal every year or so and treat my family to a unique dining experience.
We dined as a group of four. Our server was prompt and friendly, however the food and the value of the mediocre food we were served was absolutely disappointing. We ordered two appetizers, 5 beer, 2 drinks, a coffee and 4 German combination specials and our bill totaled a $230. If the food had been outstanding, or even good we would have left the establishment with a better feeling. I was completely underwhelmed and will not return.
Great food, great service and great ambiance. I would recommend this as a restaurant for all occasions.
Thursday night's steak specials feature large steaks.
Service was exceptionally slow and waiter was not at all friendly or personable. Flatbread appetizer was so cold the cheese was hard. Steaks were so over seasoned and salty. Mashed potatoes were hard and cold. The salad medley and bread basket were the only good part of the meal. Very disappointed.
We don't often see German restaurants any more. Good wurst and Wiener schnitzel. Cabbage and sauerkraut overlooked. Would like to see more German beers on draft
My husband and I celebrated our 34th weddinganniversary here. Terrific food and mellow relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend.
What a beautiful place! Like many fine old homes in Germany. Service was quite good. Sadly, a dried out duck leg was put before us. They should have brought a moist one or just told us they were out of duck leg. Sauerbraten and sauerkraut were not to our taste. Maybe it tastes like some region in Germany that we were not familiar with. Red cabbage was good, as was the wine, a Riesling. Prices are a bit high, but not too high if the quality is there.
We had a spot by the fireplace on a Tuesday night - quiet and romantic. Potato soup was excellent and hot. I had the Pork Chop Special and my wife had Salmon - both were very good.
Hot bread and pretzels was a nice surprise! Beer was cold and fresh
Not inexpensive so make a visit for a special occasion
My husband and I grew up in Milwaukee. Most of our lives, we ate at well known German restaurants in downtown, Milwaukee. Now that we live in Waukesha, we looked for German food closer and began to come here for dinner. In recent years, we still would go to the 2 German restaurants in Milwaukee. It didn't take long that we realized that the 2 Milwaukee German restaurants had severley diminished in quality of food, service and everything else while Gasthaus is always consistently excellent.
Wonderful food. Took me back to my trip to Germany. Service was good some of the Bartenders and servers were quiet and somewhat hands off but still attentive and polite. Overall, very good experience and I would return.
We felt neglected that evening. It took a while to order our food...waiter didn't come around after he got our drinks. The tables around us got their meals before us...and they were seated after us. It was one hour after we arrived that we got our meal. The waiter did not check on us either. And we had to try to get our waiter's attention to get out check. Will not return.
Now closed! It was the best Weissgerber place and it closed.
There were seven of us, we all had worked together and now all but one is retired. We get together for a light meal once a month but at Christmas we treat ourselves and go to a more upscale restaurant, which the Gasthaus is. The prices are good. The food delicious and the atmosphere is so comfortable and decorated beautiful. The coziness of the fireplace and the German decor was delightful. We definitely will return.
Our table in front of the fireplace that I requested was ready when we arrived. Our waiter greeted us right away. The service was excellent and our waiter knew exactly how each menu item was made. The food was also outstanding. Great old German atmosphere makes you feel like you just took a short trip to Germany. We will definitely return.
We loved all the appetizers, great salads, wonderful Riesling, loved the main courses. We went for all the tastes of German food and were not disappointed. Nice waiter.
The Gasthaus is a nice German restaurant from the Weissgerber family. The food is very good. the bar area is nice for meeting friends. They have a nice meeting room upstairs for special events. Try the Reuben rolls or the Flammkuchen for an appetizer.
We Took our family from Europe to the Gasthaus because we knew they cooked an amazing pork shank. Last night's dinner was outstanding. We have never had such fabulous pork shanks. In addition, we had scrumptious appetizers and the Bavarian dessert platter was delicious. I cannot recommend this restaurant to enough people.
Visited the last time during the holidays and gave myself that excuse that I wasn't as pleased with the food or service as I should have been. This time was worse. The service was slow because waitress had to many tables to handle. Food was cold from soup to main dish which tasted like it had been sitting for a while. Will not be going again real soon.
GASTHOUS is OUTSTANDING for entertaining out-of- state guests. Its has a 'Wisconsin Supper Club' feel but with traditional, local German dressing. Ambiance was "10 of 10" OUTSTANDING. Food and service was good to very good. Value was very good. The $8 German Sampler desert option is a steal. I don't know how they do that for eight bucks.
