Webster House Ratings and Reviews
Everything, everything, everything was great for lunch during Restaurant Week. For my two-course selection, I picked the fried brussel sprouts and the short rib tartine with the featured cab. Spouse had the local greens and salmon crepes with the chard. Both were delicious. Thanks, Webster House. P.S. Your bloody mary's are the best in town.
Overall, my meal was very good and I would certainly return, but it was clear to me that I was being waited on by the B-team.
My reservation was for Saturday night at 8PM. Upon walking into the ground level store I had to search around for a member of the wait staff to point me in the direction of the restaurant. Finding my way up the stairs and nearly walking in on a private party - since there weren't any staff or signs to guide the way - I finally came upon what I assumed was the host's podium and waited. My date and I stood there for a little bit too long, wondering if we were in the right place, for the restaurant to make a good first impression. When the host appeared a moment later, she kindly led us to our table in a nearly empty dining room. I never thought that 8PM was a late reservation so I was surprised to see that we were one of only a few other diners there.
We ordered salads, beef short ribs, scallops, and creme brulee. The visual presentation of each plate couldn't have been done better. However, our entrees were delivered on cold plates. The salad lettuce was crisp and refreshing, and the assortment of vegetables and fruits mixed with the light vinegarette dressing was very sharp. It was probably the best salad I've ever had. The beef short ribs and scallops were cooked perfectly. The ribs were tender enough to be cut with forks and the scallops were very smooth on the palate and filling. The short ribs are served with reduced truffle extracts which I think could have been increased to add flavor, or supplemented by adding pieces of truffle over the meat. The only thing I didn't enjoy about the entrees were the purees of Dijon vegetable and butternut squash. Personally, I'm not a fan of puree because it reminds me of baby food but that doesn't mean the flavor was lacking any. Our creme brulee dessert was promptly served and also delicious.
Fantastic food, great atmosphere, and very reasonably priced, conidering the quality of food and service. Decent wine list and great cocktails! This place also has antique furniture and deco for sale. Located near Kauffman Center, this historic brick manor is a great stop before a performance.
Everything about the Webster House communicates history, tradition, culture, and elegance. It is the perfect location for anyone who loves the arts, as its entrees truly are culinary works of art -- both visually and gastronomically. My wife and I have dined here for our special occasions and pre-opera dinners for several years and find its menu as creative, fresh and inviting today as when when we made our inaugural visit. The Webster House offers its guests a luxurious and rejuvenating pause from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
Got together today with friends to celebrate the holiday season. The staff is always so helpful. We arrived early and were going to shop. The staff was able to accommodate us and seat us a little early.
I had the black bean soup which was marvelous. Wonderful flavor. And just the right amount of spice.
Our wait person was very attentive and helpful.
Webster House is the most delightful place in Kansas City for a special occasion. Thank goodness we have this place. Thank you to Mrs. Helzberg for making it unique and beautiful. I always feel like I am her guest and I am always inspired by being there. The staff is attentive and the food is beautifully presented. I love all the rooms and the merchandise is exquisite.
Webster House was great as usual. Thanks! The short rib sandwiches looked great. I'd say the smoked salmon crepes needed some work on the salmon side--tasted "fishy" instead of smoked--but aioli was terrific! Decent service. There was one server for a table of 8 and a table of 10 and my table of 3. I like the parking garage across the street, which was at no charge with the hostess's validation bar code stamp. I appreciate the frequent menu changes, although I do think December lunch offerings could be heartier. I missed the holiday decorations not being "over the top." Overall, I highly recommend Webster House.
Pre-concert dinner. Wait staff is highly attuned to concert schedule & is diligent about ensuring that we had ample time to make the performance. Both service & food were excellent. We each had duck, which was excellent. Then we shared a bread pudding which was just average.
