Ways & Means Oyster House Ratings and Reviews
We ended up being at Ways and Means for 5 hours on Saturday. Our waitress was very accommodating and friendly. The polenta was fantastic as usual. One of my friends had 2 bowls of the clam chowder because it was so good. Our second time visiting the restaurant and it was slow for Veteran's day so we were able to linger. They were just out of the Blonde beer so that's my only complaint.
This was our first visit to Ways and Means and we were very pleased. We started of with the oysters and the were fantastic. They serve most of their meals in small plates. We loved the lobster mac and cheese. The deviled were good but not great. Our waitress was more than friendly and helpful. She way checking in on us to make sure were taken care of during our meal.
I have been to W&M for brunch and had a wonderful experience. This last visit was disappointing with the exception of service, which was beyond exceptional from the hostess to our waiter. Both were engaging and sincere.
While waiting for another friend to join, we ordered the mac & cheese and polenta sticks as appetizers. Beyond both tasting bland, the mac and cheese was soupy...not in a cheesy way. Rather than having dinner here, we settled our bill and left.
Visited for a friends birthday and was seated quickly with our reservation at a great table on the patio but the problem was it was next to a party of 10 and to loud to have a conversation. They moved us inside which was great but still very loud with background noise. Brunch was nice Mimosa's very yummy as well as the Bloody Mary. Brunch portions are small and even with a few tapas we all went home hungry. For $19.00 for eggs benedict you had a cocktail plate with two small portions of egg benedict nothing else. Sliders $16.00 two bite size sliders with a few fries. Lobster Roll was good but we thought it was crab. Maybe next time happy hour.
Server was excellent.
Our overall experience was okay at best. Our waitress was very sweet, but spent very little time at our table. We had a party of 6 and our total bill was about $240 and we all left hungry. Our party was there for about 2 1/2 hours and the water was only refilled once. The restaurant did not look full by any means. The vodka had a funny taste to it and the spirits menu was difficult to follow.
We had ordered the crab cakes and received the crab sliders, which we were not charged for.
The oysters and wings were the best thing about our meal.
Well, our server Lisa was great, she did the best she could with all the tables she had. Our ouster’s tasted good but not not entirely cleaned well including the shooters, they were gritty. The food we ordered taste wise was good but nothing came hot including the bacon wrapped shrimp. The manager dropped off our oysters first but didn’t bring us oyster forks and didn’t even notice we had no set ups till we pointed it out. They went looking all over for some and brought one and said they were looking for more! What?! This is an oyster bar! Btw the restaurant was not full. We waited a very long time for our bill and then Just as long for it to be picked up . When we were leaving there was no one up front to validate parking so I had to walk to the back of the restaurant behind the bar to find the manager who didn’t realize that no one was up front, he was busy chatting it up with two other staff. By the time we got out our validation didn’t completely cover our parking time.
Looks great from the outside but disappointed by the inside. They need to step up their game😟
Overall food is very good for the money. These are small plates for sharing and most of the items are very good. If you are a big eater who expect large portions, this is not the place for you. However if you like to try a lot of different foods and items with a good cocktail, wine or beer. The service and the food are of good value.
We celebrated a birthday and Ways & Means and are so glad we chose this restaurant. Our server was exceptionally sweet, attentive and accommodating. We typically dine in large groups and order family style. She was able to provide stellar recommendations so that everyone at the table could find something they liked. The only criticism I have is for the bar. The drinks were fantastic but came well into meal plates being served, even though they were ordered first. Thank you for a memorable dinner!
Charlton is an attentive server w gracious hospitality. The crab cake sliders are excellent. Shrimp tacos and plantains are dry-ish, but my guest said her fish taco was better than the shrimp and steak and potatoes dish was good. Sitting outside is fun to people watch and feel the ocean breeze.
Our server was nice, but the ones who brought out the dishes didn't explain which oysters were which and what could we expect. As if they never tasted the food. The dessert was brought out without utensils. Little details like that were lacking, although our server herself was very personable and attentive. The food was good - you can't go wrong with $10 lobster! (Only on Mondays). Great views, nice ambiance. I would return; lots of other menu items to try.
Ways and Means is a good restaurant. As a local we tend to go for the Monday lobster special. Today was a bit disappointing. My lobster was very salty and the actal meat was pink and mushy. I mentioned this and Kelly (?) the manager on duty, gave me an extra claw.
Spectacular service from the moment I arrived. I was throwing a bday lunch party for 10 and the Manager- Barbra met me immediately at the door with a big smile. The experience got even better as I was introduced to our waitress Gabby. The lobster of course was amazing which we all had to our hearts content! Highly recommend this restaurant for top notch service.
Unfortunately the management couldn't handle a very large party and there other guests. All of our meals came out one at a time and drinks came after some already ate. My salad came 15 minutes after everyone else. They never asked if I wanted another drink and we got one water refill (only because no one checked in with us). To top it off, they deliver the bill and the pen breaks all over my hands, so ink is everywhere. The manager told me I could wash it off in the bathroom. FYI - some ink takes week to wash out of your skin.
We went for the lobster special which we planned for three weeks. When we got there the sign said the lobster was sold out! We later learned that you have do dine with them first, then you can make a reservation for the lobster for the following Monday! I've never heard of anything like that.
Management, here was my review-
This experience was one of the WORST I've ever had in a restaurant. First off we are locals that pride ourselves in supporting our local restaurants so when we were down at Pacific City one evening we noticed a sign in the common areas advertising $9.99 "whole lobsters" on Monday's we thought we would give it a shot. The sign says nothing else. I then made a reservation on "open table " for Monday and looked forward to our Libsterfest. What we experienced still baffles my wife and I. After we were seated and a lengthy wait for a server, a Manager walked up and asked for a drink order. Before we did that we had questions as to what came with the Lobster and he says "drawn butter" that's all. That's ok so as we prepare to ask more he asks us if we "reserved our lobsters?" I was confused as nothing in the sign mention that or the ads on their website. I said no and he told us they were all spoken for. Not happy with wasting our time we asked to "reserve for the following week" and we were told we needed to order something right now in order to reserve the lobsters for the following week! Are you kidding me?! So in other words, purchase of food or beverage in advance is required to get this deal! Nothing says this on their site or the ads throughout Pacific City! Shame on the Manager and shame on Ways and Means for this ridiculous practice. These two locals will NOT be coming back and I will spread the word via social media to make sure others are not duped into this not so great place!
We went for the Sunday brunch and had a great time! Champagne was flowing, it was a beautiful day, we had oysters, it was really nice. My only really criticisms was with their food. The oysters were pretty small but moderately expensive. Small bites like the calamari, the crab cake sliders, and the cauliflower were only 'good.' We weren't really blown away by anything in particular. Don't get me wrong, nothing was bad by any stretch, it just seemed to lack... something. Other than that the ambiance was so fun, the staff was attentive and friendly, and we really enjoyed ourselves. We will be coming back again!
great place and atmosphere food was very good expect the philly sliders there were alil over cooked but they exchanged it out for another and they don't offer shrimp cocktail yet they have shrimp and they need to work on there lemon drop martinis alil more has alil too much bite in it needs to be toned down alil bit more to enjoy it better
