About Wayfare Tavern
Chef Tyler Florence brings his passion for high quality and style to San Francisco with his new flagship restaurant, Wayfare Tavern. A classic San Francisco Tavern featuring authentic American dishes inspired by local cuisine at the turn of the 20th century, the menu ranges from classic comforts to rustic delicacies. The beverage menu features locally-sourced wines including a selection of Florence's own label, quality draft beers and organic root beer as well as classic Victorian-era cocktails.
All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

Wayfare Tavern Ratings and Reviews
While the server seemed stressed on a busy night, he kept his cool and worked with the kitchen on a busy night to ensure we had a phenomenal meal. Had the dry aged ribeye which was amazing. They have some pretty fantastic wines here for decent prices, ask the sommelier to pair something for you. Food took a little long, but was more than worth the wait, extras were sent out on the house, so you know you were never forgotten. Really amazing night. Thanks guys.
There were four of us for lunch to celebrate a birthday. We were seated upstairs within 10 minutes of our reservation. Great server with great personality! Food was delicious. Service was perhaps on the slow side (the restaurant was very busy). We ordered coffee at the end of the meal and then paid by credit cards. As the cards were being returned to be signed the Manager (assuming he was the manager) came to our table and said that the table was really only good for two hours and he had people waiting for our table. Really? This request to leave spoiled what had been a very nice lunch with good friends. If this 2 hour window is standard for the restaurant It would have been nice if we knew this when the reservation was made. In fact, we didn't feel responsible for any "slowness" - we ordered our food, it came in the kitchen's due time, and then we ordered our coffee at the end of the meal. That didn't get finished. Disappointing end to the meal.
I was in San Francisco for a work function. Everyone kept talking about the fried chicken from the Wayfare Tavern. Three of my colleagues and I grabbed a reservation at Wayfare Tavern. It was all it was reputed to be. The popovers were phenomenal as was the chicken. Two of us had burgers which were also delicious. Since we had heard a lot about the doughnuts we had them for dessert. They were light, hot and came with two toppings. I can't wait to go back!!
The hostess team was the only negative from our dinner. We checked in early (7:30 for our 8:00 reservation) but after 3 different people were working the front desk while we waited and kept checking. At 8:30 they inform us that no one checked us in. After complaining the manager did comp us an appetizer for our trouble. The late dinner did negatively impact our Sunday evening dinner.
I usually don't write frustrated reviews... but this evening was worth letting someone know about... This was my 3rd time dining with Wayfare-and I was sadly so disappointed. It was supposed to be my special birthday dinner.. It was far from special
I chose this restaurant because I work in the industry and enjoy following Tyler Florence.
My 9 year old granddaughter and I had a big weekend in San Francisco.
After the Theatre we had dinner at Wayfair. The kitchen was good to accommodate my granddaughter with plain salmon and mashed potatoes. I had the fried chicken following a big build up. It was very plain and dry. None of the herbs and lemon embellishments shown on numerous photos of the same dish.
The service was okay. Very pleasant but slightly inattentive. The space is very warm and cozy.
We had reservations and still had to wait 45 minutes. We finally got seated and had to wait 10 minutes for our waiter to show up and take our drink order. One drink was served then had to wait another 5 minutes for the rest and two of those were wine which shouldn't take that long. The food was good but the service had horrible!
Servers were friendly and not pretentious. Fried chicken was the best I’ve tasted in a long time-moist, skinless with a thin, crispy crust, non-greasy. Nice touch when they boxed leftovers and gave us a takeout # to pick up food. The only negative thing I can think of is a slightly musky odor at the entryway. I’ve noticed the same smell in Historic brick buildings along the waterfront
We looked forward to this for at least a month. We went for the fried chicken they are known for. Terrific flavor, but it wasn't hot! The burger was WAY overcooked, but I was too hungry at this point to send it back. The deviled egg appetizer was overpowering with tarragon. And the chocolate silk pie was missing the devil's food cake listed on the menu or else there was so little that you could barely tell. The popovers are DIVINE. The coffee was wonderful and the warm, fresh made donuts should be THE reason you go here. Skip everything else.
Was here for my bday. Take bar food and send it to culinary school and this is what you have. Amazing food! I had the burger and my girlfriend had the fried chicken. Omg amazing. Had a couple double IPAs and how delicious and cold where they!? That is all! Oh one last thing, the ambiance was super 1920s, with New American cuisine. Loved it.
