We went for my husband's birthday. Drove from San Jose. We were very excited to go to Wayfare based on reviews. The cocktails were great, portions good size, sides are a la carte, mac n cheese awesome. We sat in the upstairs and it was freezing. I wore my winter coat the whole time. It really did effect the overall experience. It was hard to get past.
This is second time here. First time really love it that is why returning. But second try is not as good, service quality decrease. Took the waiter 20 mins before taking our order. The main dish took more then half hr to come out after they clean our appetizer dishes. They are very fast on collecting dishes even we are not totally finish, but takes forever for the next course to come. Feel rushed but yet waited forever for service.
Food and service were excellent! Can't wait to come back.
Butternut squash soup and popovers plus the fried chicken were all unexpectedly great!
Their service was really good. Our waiter checked on us to make sure we had everything we needed. My friend had the Fried Chicken and he said it was great. I enjoyed the past. Would definitely visti this place again.
It took almost 50 mins to get the food. We were even already full when we received the food.
Food was meh, fried chicken not much flavor, salad nothing special, lemonade too sour, chocolate cream pie-old, crust was like a rock (i took it home or I would've asked for refund), but pleasant servers. Cozy but too loud to carry on a decent convo.
Delicious salmon And fried chicken. However when a waitress comes to welcome you and take your drink order, she should go directly to the bar and return to the table with the drinks, not 15 minutes later. We placed our dinner order before we got our drinks. Pet peeve of mine. Then there is a lot of shenanigans moving the plates and bringing different silverware...just seems a bit contrived...
Service was excellent, nice beers, food just ok. Biggest issue: the uncomfortably cold temperature of the restaurant. Server said it's an old bldg + a cold night, and that's just what happens. She brought hot water/lemon. Nearly everyone was wearing their coat/jacket/scarves. Disappointing as we were expecting "cozy night out". As with a reviewer below, we were also given the wrong "leftovers" bag at the hostess stand on our way out. Clearly, that system needs refinement...diners should feel confident they aren't taking home food from another's plate.
A good selection of American food with good size portion to share.
A good wine list local Ca. Selection.
Our waiter was one of the best waiters we've ever had. Service was excellent. The restaurant setting was unique in that it has 4 floors and all different. There's something for every palette on the menu. It's American style food which is rich and heavy with several traditional dishes. The noise level was acceptable. They have several separate dining rooms for large groups.
As good as it gets
I liked the food but my Petrale Sole was n oily and tasteless. Also the waiter was not attentive at all. He also lied about the where our Oysters came from. We wanted Big ones from the East Coast and he insisted that the Small ones were from the East Coast. It was really annoying. We weren't going to argue about it, but it was not professional. I would recommend this place but the service needs improvement.
The fried chicken did not disappoint! It was amazing. My cocktail was pretty perfect and the staff was great.
Generous portions of delicious food! Great service.
Underwhelming and disappointing meal. I expected better from a Michael Bauer top 100 restaurant. Restaurant does have great atmosphere and service. The meal started well with the popovers and salad and went down from there. The signature fried chicken was very ordinary-not crispy or especially flavorful. Have had much better elsewhere. Steak, for $42, was also very ordinary and not a great cut. Meal for 2 with a cocktail, 2 glasses of wine, no desert and tip came to $200. Had a much better meal for lunch that day for $66 with a cocktail, draft beer, desert and tip.
The waitress had difficulty putting thru the OpenTable $25 rewards cert. She actually had to hurry after us before we got out the door to let us know she couldn't process. (The balance was paid in cash.) We had to wait in order for her to get the restaurant manager to handle. Fortunately, he was able to process. This spoiled an otherwise nice first visit to Wayfare.
Took friends there after we have regularly eaten here - salmon, burger and fried chicken were outstanding - service always great.
Excellent food in a great environment. Friendly service.
Most of the food was a bit over cooked. The calamari was rubbery and the pork and fried chicken were a little dry. Nice place though, cheesecake was great.
This was a disappointing and chaotic experience. First it took a while to get our servers attention. Once we placed our order which included two cocktails, we waited for a our drinks to come. Our appetizer arrived and still no cocktails. We were halfway finished with our appetizers when our cocktails arrived. I ordered the fish and chips sandwich. I took one bite of the sandwich and all the fish fell out of the sandwich and landed on my lap then on the floor. The servers came immediately and offered to replace the sandwich and get club soda to clean my shirt. The club soda never came. The new sandwich arrived promptly and it was delicious. My wife had the fried chicken and decided to take half of it home. We got the bill and they charged me for two fish sandwiches plus my wife’s meal. I said to the server that I didn’t know I was going to be charge for a second sandwich. He removed the second sandwich. We paid the bill and got our to go bag. When we got home we opened the to go bag and we got someone else’s lunch.
Consistently delicious. The only issue is with a party of 7, we were jammed into a booth. We made it work as it was an affable group but it was not very conducive for a business meeting.
Positives: Great Ambiance and Drinks, Nice waiter and Bartender, Great food options for meat eaters (the fried chicken was a hit!). Moderate noise but great for a group or happy hour.
Cons: Hostess was disorganized and there was a significant wait for our reserved table (my advice would be to pester her sooner than I did so you don't get forgotten!), very limited options for vegetarians/vegans ( I called about this and there were not options presented- "it is what it is" was pretty much the response I got...) . Probably not a great option if this is you or your friends. Can be loud for a date or quiet dinner- would not recommend this earlier in the evening.
I enjoy each meal at Wayfare - great food and attentive service.
I've been to Wayfare Tavern twice in the past month (once for date-night dinner; once for business lunch) and both experiences have been absolutely perfect.
We were celebrating our daughter’s 29th birthday. Marcus was our waiter, and was just awesome!
Enjoyable meal, but not sure if it lives up to all the hype. Definitely worth trying at least once.
Beautiful restaurant. We had a reservation for 8:15 on a Sat night. We got there early to look for parking (there’s no valet) and found a spot right away. We checked in early got a table at 7:30. That was nice because both bars—upstairs and down were both packed. The cocktails...the first round was tasty; the second was way too strong. The bone marrow and the braised short ribs were amazing. The servings were bigger than we expected, so we didn’t save room for dessert unfortunately. The two of us ordered an appetizer, two entrees, and a side, and we couldn’t finish. We asked to take home the leftovers, and they gave us a claim ticket, and we picked up the bag st the hostess station on the way out. Cute system for leftovers. It was like a coat check but for food. The vibe was lively and fun. The service was great. The food was creative and delicious, and we had a great experience.
Atmosphere was great, and service was overall pretty good. Food was slightly above average, but nothing spectacular. It was a nice evening, but I was expecting a little more from the food offering. We had the fried chicken for a main, which was good, but nothing particularly special.
Fantastic spot for my small business group dinner! We found Wayfare Tavern to have wonderful food and drink choices and the service was excellent.
Great as always.
Great Food and even better service ;) Will be back!
I love Wayfare feel. I love Wayfare food even more. What lacks CONSISTENTLY and always, is good service. Last Saturday was the worst service I have ever had there. One persons food Came 10 minutes later than everyone else’s. It was a burger.
Dessert came out before the coffee ( ordered at same time) Appetizers came out and were set high on the back of the booth- airing near other booth with other people. All because we didn’t have plates yet.
Been wanting to try this restaurant for quite some time since a fan of Tyler Florence. The fried chicken was as advertised and the mussels were fantastic! Don’t pass on the donuts for dessert because they are that good. Service was spot on and they always make sure your needs are met.
The fried chicken is everything they say. Portion was huge. Took half back home. Salads were delicious. Pricey. But special. Excellent service.
The food was very good, Green Goddess dressing and Fried chicken were the outstanding parts. wines by the glass were excellent. The service was initially poor. I was seated and waited for 10 minutes before a server who was not the one assigned to my table noticed that I had not yet been helped and took care of me. He was very help and knowledgeable and continued to come by during the rest of the evening to make sure everything was OK even after my assigned server took over.
Fried chicken was tasty & filling. Highly recommended for SF restaurant week, and even when the promotion has ended. Tcho chocolate dessert is a perfect ending to a lovely dinner. Service is attentive, water glasses are never empty. Ambiance is warm and charming. Looking forward to our next dining experience.
Excellent location for our business meeting. Service and food were great, although food was a bit pricey for a lunch.
This is the fifth time I've dined at Wayfare and of all my visits, this was the least impressive. Sadly, the service was slow and inattentive - yes it was busy but I feel like it is always busy here, and this evening's service was especially lacking.
My friend and I ordered drinks and two appetizers. My Reconstruction was good and he seemed to like his beer. The bone marrow, which normally is quite good, ended up being under-cooked. The marrow was solid and a little cold. Disappointing. This might have contributed to my friend's upset stomach mid-meal. The tartare was, as always, delicious - no complaints there.
Of course, I will return to Wayfare in the future. It is a great restaurant overall. They must have just been having an off night.
I have been here once before. This time the waiter may have been busy, but he yanked the menus when we were done ordering our drinks & food & was not cheerful at all. My husband ordered their "world famous fried chicken" and ate all the white meat and saved the best pieces (dark meat) to eat at home. We did not finish our entrees so they were kind enough to box our leftovers. They FORGOT to add my husband's fried chicken, and they only packed half of my entree. I understand that mistakes can be made and that we should have checked the to go bag.. but that's only something that I would do at a Chinese restaurant and not a place of this caliber. Would I come back? Probably to try the fried chicken (dark meat only).
