Wayfare Tavern is an old-school spot in the Financial District. And we mean that in the very best way.
Love this place!
Always a great meal with fantastic wine choices. Busy as expected on a Sunday night but the food came out piping hot and so tasty.
First time at Wayfare Tavern but won’t be the last. We were greeted warmly and seated promptly. Out server, Lynda, was excellent! She was there when needed but never intrusive. Two in our party had their signature fried chicken which was delicious. One person enjoyed the salmon special. They bring piping hot popovers to the table, so beware if you’re on a diet. Perfect spot in the financial district. If you haven’t tried it yet, you should.
Came for late lunch on A Saturday afternoon. Surprised that the menu was fairly limited. Excellent butter lettuce salad; ordinary fried chicken ; ordinary mac n cheese (both needed seasoning) ; ordinary mushrooms. Overall, it was pleasant being there, but really nothing special.
This is a very celiac unfriendly place...a little scary. They do try hard to accommodate, but it took forever. And then I got the rack of lamb, which was in reality 2 small lamb chops and cost $43. Way overpriced, I paid $240 for dinner for 2, and left hungry.
Was not impressed. Chicken had no flavor. Everything needed salt. “Forest mushrooms” were baby button mushrooms. All I can say is we are happy we didn’t make the trip specifically to come here.
Absolutely fabulous food, service!!! Will continue to frequent this fine restaurant.
Food was uneven, fried chicken was a bit dry and the prawns were served cold. Service was grest, we were placed at a noisy section at the top of the stairs, not the best.
Very nice- three of us shared the calamari and butter salad and oysters- Popovers were a hit- we also had the famous fried chicken Excellent- And my husband enjoyed the rack of lamb- the only little problem was that the Pinot noir was a bit warm- could have been served at a cooler temperature-
We were lucky to visit Wayfare Tavern on a quiet Sunday in April. I had requested a quiet table based on a past noisy lunch where I only heard about a quarter of the conversation. They put us at the table by the fireplace on the first floor and it was very nice despite being near the servers station. The food is delish and we all had the suggested local cocktails which were fabulous. Service was good but a bit spotty. All in all a lovely dinner with an old friend in a comfortable location.
Excellent brunch and amazing service as always!
My wife and I were celebrating our anniversary. We started off with the appetizers which were just OK. I had the arugula salad and my wife had the calamari. It was just OK and not outstanding however our entrées and dessert or some of the best things we’ve ever had. The service was incredible and the donuts for dessert which were recommended to us by the waiter, was the best recommendation he could have given us. Seriously, if you do go you absolutely must try the donuts for dessert. The donuts our house made and come out warm and gooey with delicious side raspberry sauce and a lemon butter sauce of some sort which was amazing. The atmosphere was warm and inviteAnd the ambience was romantic. The Decour dark wood and wallpaper set the mood for a romantic dinner with my wife. Over all I would say if you go to San Francisco you should give this place a try. We felt it was very much worth the trip to come here.
It was our anniversary and the Giant’s game went to extra innings. I called when I knew we wouldn’t make our reservation and they assured me that we’d at least be able to have dinner at the bar. When we arrived went to the bar while they tried to work out a table for us. The bartenders were great so we decided to have dinner there. We had a great time and we’ll be back.
Service was on point!
Good food. Good atmosphere
Wayfare is overhyped. The building is old and charming, the food is fine, nothing special and certainly not worth the price tag. I’d say this is a great spot to bring your parents or grandparents, but if you’re someone who likes the flavor to equal the price point then I’d skip it.
Great attention to detail, it was my fiends birthday and they had a card and cake for her. She was really happy! Ford and service were exceptional!
Just a great place with good menu abnd great fried hickenand popovers
Service was slower than we have had there in the past. They forgot our first course and brought it to us after the main meal was served after we asked for it.
Food was good, but not great. Worse Steak Tartare I have ever had.
Last time I at here was for dinner and it was very good. So this lunch was disappointing.
Everything was perfect. It made me look great!
Fantastic foods and drinks. The service was wonderful and on point. If I lived closer I would eat there all the time.
Enjoyed the fried chicken once again. Seems I can never not order it. My friends, who hadn't been before, are still raving about it. The other plates look good too just never get around to them. They do make killer Old Fashions
My husband and I are from Los Angeles and come to San Francisco every few months. We never miss a chance to dine at Wayfare Tavern - it’s our go to place in the city. The overall service is always top notch and the food is always wonderful overall.
Service did take a while to get our orders
The food was just OK, nothing special. I went for the fried chicken but I have had far better elsewhere. My date had a bass special and he said it was fine but also nothing special. I guess the biggest negative is that we paid $160 plus tip for average food. We have had fantastic meals here in San Francisco for that kind of money. I believe this qualifies as a tourist trap ... expensive and mediocre.
From start to finish this restaurant had great food and excellent service. The highlights were the beef tartare and deviled eggs and the raw oysters and the burrata mashed potatoes and the burgers.
It made for a memorable meal.
Always enjoy eating here. This is one of my refuges from overly crowded places, but they seem so somehow make good use of space so a Friday night date is comfortable. Great food and great staff.
Wayfare Tavern Is a top-notch, first class experience. From the moment you walk in the door to the moment you leave and definitely everything in between. The service was on point and made our anniversary special. There is a good variety of food and everything we had was delicious. I highly recommend this restaurant for your special occasion.
Excellent energy in this restaurant reminding one of an East Coast tavern. We ate upstairs which is better if you want to space yourself from noise and movement of entry and bar. The Rack of Lamb was thick, juicy and an excellent choice. The wine was a little expensive and somewhat limited but they had good choices. Great for business meals and friends night out.
The food was really good, fried chicken was excellent, service was OK, except our food took too long, server cleared our appetizers and said your entrees are coming in 2 minutes, half an hour later i had to ask the manager for our food. we got to the restaurant at 530 pm before our 8 pm show, we got our food around 715 pm, had to rush out to catch our show. i was really disappointed, server said this usually does not happened, manager said the same thing, did not get an explanation on what happened with our food, instead the manager gives me the bill and said "i did not charge you for the Devils Egg" our total bill was about $160 for 2 people and this was the explanation i got, "i did not charge you for the Devils Egg" she basically said here's $14 for your food being late. I was not asking for anything for free, i just wanted to know where our food was and what happened.
Good “foodie” spot in the city! Had the cheeseburger, it was different in a good way! Highly recommend.
We arrived at 5:45p and had a 7pm curtain 4 blocks away. Our waitperson, Brad, was professional and efficient...everything arrived in good time. Our waters were refilled often and plates removed quickly when no longer needed. The Mac and Cheese remains an outstanding offering...ditto the deviled eggs. The beef tartar was served as a round flat pancake-style mass, which was very tasty. The burger, served on greens, as a special request from the consumer, was well received and gobbled up quickly!
There was a large party gathering in a nearby room and I noticed the care and observation by restaurant staffers that guests were guided to their destination and other diners were not disturbed.
Wayfare Tavern deserves many return engagements!
Excellent service, great location and ambience.
Birthday celebration made special by the staff. Thank you !
The food was more than great. Customer service was excellent. No complaints. Such a relaxed environment. Staff genuinely made me feel at home.
Calamari was fishy. Server forgot to order our appetizers for us. My main was cold. I made a poor choice on wine (entirely my fault), but the server didn't attempt to steer us towards something better. Altogether a poor experience and we won't be coming back.
Great experience again. Highly recommend it!
Five star dining experience!! Fabulous service, amazing food and classic SF ambiance. 100% Satisfaction!!
I enjoyed the fried chicken and my wife the scallops, both were excellent. Great cocktails too.
