Wayfare Tavern is an old-school spot in the Financial District. And we mean that in the very best way.
Always have a great meal here when up in SF. The Fried Chicken is INCREDIBLE!
Had to look for my waitress throughout the night , but the food and drinks were superb like always. One of my favorite spots in SF.
Lit AF. Fried chicken is the greatest.
After all the hype we were underwhelmed.
The food was mediocre but the service was great.
Went to celebrate my birthday loved everything from the deviled eggs to the fried chicken.
Food was delicious but was rushed with food
I love the food and the environment. This is my 3rd time eating here and it is always very warm in the restaurant. It was so hot, that I was actually hurrying to finish my meal to get outside.
We were there to celebrate a graduation and had a great time. The food was well prepared and tasty (as always) and the service was fantastic. This is always a great place to eat when in the financial district.
Wayfare Tavern is impeccable. I was visiting from Seattle and made reservations for a Saturday night. I arrived a few minutes early and had a drink at the bar before hand. Gorgeous bar, excellent drinks. Service was on point from the moment we walked in. The fresh popovers they have for bread service are absolutely incredible. The menu is creative while still offering classic dishes. We ordered the beef tartare, which was INCREDIBLE. And also huge. It came with fresh made potato chips which were super light and crisp. I can’t even begin to describe to you in proper detail how delicious the bone marrow was. It was topped with a huge amount of seared pork belly and blueberries and served with a soft, fluffy bread. Absolutely perfect. For dinner we shared the fried chicken, which the menu says they’re famous for. And I believe it. The chicken was crisp, light and juicy. At the end of dinner we were so full we had to skip dessert. So we made reservations the next night with plans to come back and have an appetizer and dessert. The next night, we came back, and ended up ordering another full dinner. It was that good. I never did get a change to try the desserts but I figure that’s just another reason to come back the next time I’m in town. Don’t pass on this place!
We chose this for its proximity to the punchline comedy club and reputation of chef Tyler Florence. The service was friendly and expert. The fried chicken, macaroni and asparagus sides were great as was the trout special. Highly recommended.
Great atmosphere, food and service. This place never disappoints. Very friendly and comfortable. Love the food!
Food took over an hour to arrive and they weren’t even busy.
Convenient, reliable trustworthy restaurant been here frequently.. great service and great menu, however always opt for the Wayfare Burger(Massive)..I’ll be back.
Hot spot buzz at lunchtime. Loud but not deafeningly so. Table was ready on time and service was excellent. Bread was quite good, as were fried chicken and mac and cheese. Chicken a bit pricey, but a generous serving -- boxed some to take home. Personally only ok on the deviled eggs. No room for dessert. All around excellent experience.
Although we had a reservation, we waited 40 minutes to be seated. But the experience was worth the wait. Great food; nice variation, creatively made and large portions for sharing. Noise level is high though; so if you are looking for a quiet cozy place for a conversation, this probably not the place to do that.
The best fried chicken I have ever eaten. Thin crispy coating not greasy. Loved the accompanying fried herbs and popover. We were celebrating my friends birthday. There was a happy birthday card on the table for her when we were shown to our table. The service was attentive and thoughtful.
Strange that I had to contact OT (kinda of like a NO show?) They brought warm popovers over (no pun) - almost as good as Neiman's minus Neiman's fruit flavoured butter. We started with spinach soups (yum!) My gf had the chick salad and a side of mushrooms. I had the fried chick and a side of burrata mashed potatoes (delicious!!) The weak point of our meal was the brownie sundae. Expected the classic brownie with ice cream a la mode. This one was little cubes of brownie and ice cream in a tall glass. We did love the pistachios! Coffee service was nice. Serveurs were all helpful.
Atmosphere was great, as was food and service. Food was outrageously good. "Best fried chicken in the US" is correct! We could have easily split the meal, but that would have meant missing other great food. Dessert (Coconut cake) was phenomenal and I am not typically into desserts. Will definitely recommend and will dine there again.
Thank you for making my friends Birthday so special. He was incredibly touched by the card that was sitting on our table when we got there! The food was delicious and the service was superb.
We will be back again!!
At at Wayfare while visiting the SF area and the food was excellent!! The popovers were perfect and the fried chicken was the best ever!! My son had the salmon, he said it was cooked perfect. Highly recommend!!!
This is one of my favorite spots to have lunch or dinner in the city, but I was very disappointed in the service and lack of attentiveness from the staff when we had lunch last week. It took over 20 minutes to even have someone come by our table, and our beverage orders and salad entrees took just as long when we were finally able to order. I’m hoping it was just an off day.
The food was delicious as always.
Redhead waitress was rude and condescending - really set a negative tone to start. Blonde waitress at the end was nice.
birthday for a friend
The fried chicken was absolutely delicious! Our server was very attentive and easy going. He took good care of me and my friend who was celebrating her birthday.
A white table cloth experience except for the noise and absence of white table cloths. I really appreciated the attentive yet utterly unobtrusive service. Even many of the best SF restaurants would do well to emulate Wayfare on this point.
Our waiter was a hot mess. Came and told us about specials but not really; he basically said there are specials but didn't specify them, took away our silver plates and then long wait and then came back to talk about specials. He seemed really out of sorts and over all a very awkward dining experience because of him. Food took forever to get out. The brioche was super greasy on our sandwiches.
Love the popovers! Waiters very attentive!
Loved this place and its staff. Noticed the service lagged slightly when the lunch crowd picked up but nothing egregious.
Wonderful food, drinks, and service. The fried chicken really is excellent, as was the rest of the food we had. Definitely save room for dessert, they're delicious! Can't wait to go back!
Wonderful service wonderful meal! Oysters drinks desert all A+
Went to dinner here our second night in San Francisco. Only problem was they were about a half hour late seating us but the my made it right with an appetizer on the house. Food and drink were both fantastic. I am often reluctant to order a Manhattan or old fashioned because many places don’t make it well but the wayfarer tavern most definitely knows how to make one properly.
My husband & I took our out of town friends for dinner at Wayfare Tavern. Our meal was very good, service was great, and the Tavern has a great atmosphere. My husband had the dinner special which he said was excellent. Our friends has their fried chicken which was also very good. I had the tavern hamburger which was good but not worth the $22. That’s the reason the value rating is lower. Overall a great dining experience and we’ll be back.
Overall everything was very good. I wish they would offer a half order of Fried Chicken. Please for the love of God,Stop serving food on cutting boards, planks,or what ever you want to call them. I want my food on a plate. This trend should have died long ago. One last thing. I ordered an $18 glass of Latour White Burgundy. It’s not the price I object to,it’s the fact that it was served way too cold. At that price and the fact that Wayfare Tavern is on the SF Chronicle Top 100 Restaurant list,I guess I expect the proper temperature for white wine. I would return and recommend Wayfare Tavern.
We’ve been here a few times before but never had the famous fried chicken. We ordered it and was pleasantly surprised at the thin crispy crust from what must be dredging. We’re not fans of battered fried chicken so loved this. Perfectly seasoned with fresh herbs. Paired it with the butter lettuce with green goddess dressing. Delicious.
Without a doubt, the best fried chicken we’ve ever eaten! The service was outstanding, as was expected.
The noise level is a bit much, especially on the bottom floor, but is a little quieter upstairs.
It was lunch when we went and we sat at the chef’s table. Fried chicken lived up to its reputation and the butter lettuce salad was simple but memorable.
We had a 7:45 pm reservation. We had to wait 20 minutes to be seated. Service was very slow. Salads came out quickly but our mains took forever.
Was a bit disappointed with the cost, quantity and quality of one of the special entrees for the evening but the dinner was otherwise perfect from start to end, including the excellent guidance we received from the sommelier. The high quality dinner and service added the positive memory we have of the evening. Every member of our party of 6 was talking about the dinner for days-a good sign of a good time.
