All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

Food is good, some items are much better than others. The waiter was actually rude, at times, getting frustrated at me because I was trying to understand him through his thick accent and the noise level. Quite surprising. Otherwise, Wayfare Tavern always delivers good, but not excellent, food.
Great evening, thank you! Looking forward to returning soon.
excellent little touches make this restaurant extraordinary. Like lemon sorbet instead of lemon slices in your iced tea. OH! and sweeten with pomegranate juice!
Delightful experience! Normalized elegance❤️.
We really enjoyed this restaurant! The food & service was Amazing. Our server's name was Brian, and he was the Best. We started off with the Cucumber Mule for 4 (Did I mention it was only 2 of us). It was a Super-Refreshing beverage, I recommend you try it. The Organic Fried Chicken is the "Truth". I was skeptical at first, but after my first bite I became a Believer. The Asparagus was chopped & fried... Yum! We also had the Spare Ribs that had a Delicious sesame soy BBQ sauce. We also tried the Burrata Potatoes which were whipped to the point they were kind of soupy, but the Taste was very Good. Last but Not Least, Brian was such an excellent Guy, he Blessed us with the Homemade Doughnuts... OMG, Warm Sugary Greatness! I don't even like sweets like that, but it was truly Amazing. And to think we did All this at Lunch. We didn't need another meal that day... We'll definitely be Back!
We were seated promptly. The wait staff was overwhelmed which slowed everything. The food was good but expensive for what it is.
I still would recommend this place to people, but know that there are better restaurants out there. Most of the food was fine, and the service was only slightly below expectations. I’ll admit this is the first restaurant we have ever received a personal demeaning comment at, the staff isn’t what I would refer to as warm or friendly. The reason I still can appreciate this place is due to it being well decorated, has a great feel in the building itself. Again, pretty average place to dine at but if you need something last minute it’s pretty good.
The food was amazing as always the service was great. It was a little on the loud side but it was great experience
We had the BEST time here. We were just passing through San Francisco for the night and found this place. We were blown away. My boyfriends words exactly were “this food is life changing” 😂. Very good food, service, and overall outstanding experience!
Cozy atmosphere and food. Adhere to all protocols very nicely.
Fantastic experience. Manager Matt Lerner is a class act.
Excellent food and service as always. Outdoor parklet in the alley felt very safe. Wafare Tavern is always a winner.
First time in San Francisco
Great service and delicious food! Everything was great! Can’t wait to go back!
Great place. Our hotel recommended the Wayfare and we were glad they did. It's a fun place with great energy, a great menu (try the chicken) and a great staff.
Parking is unavailable in the area, when using a parking garage recommended by the staff had to walk past many homeless people. When I called for directions the women who answered the phone had no idea, did not ask other staff but just asked me to use google.
All I can say is… 10/10. The food was amazing, and the fried chicken is a must try. We paired the chicken with a side of mashed potatoes and mac & cheese and dessert was the donuts. The food was amazing and the aesthetic was just as good I have already recommended this place to friends and will continue to.
Last night my partner and I went to Wayfare Tavern. This was my 4th time there but the 1st time for my partner. He is a chef and this has been at the top of the list as a must have experience. This is one of my favorite places to go, every time I have been, the food is always great and the service outstanding, last night was no exception.
Our server, Jaime, has all the qualities you would like your server to exude: personable and friendly, well-versed in the menu, including the the wine, and timed our experience to allow us to enjoy the full duration of our meal.
The food, as always, was amazing. The stand out dish of the night for me was the Fried Green Tomatoes and we thank the kitchen for that nice treat!
The great food and impeccable service is why I will always choose Wayfare Tavern as a must try for my family and friends!
I've been going to Wayfare tavern for years and it seems like they have really stepped up their game.
Everything we ordered was on point fried Chicken was back to being the best in the city and a burger was amazing.
Service is great friendly staff we ate outside which is a little chilly but the tents were great though.
And as always the pop over the best part of the meal.
The start of the hostess seating us to the table service was great. The food and drink service was fast and delicious. The convenience of locating the restaurant was simple . We would return
Wonderful place! But the person Who were supposed to be delivering the popovers and the coffee was way behind and the timing was all off on both things. What a shame tomorrow such a wonderful experience!
A classic American menu done to a fine standard in a club like atmosphere.
It was a nice place with great service. Food was alright not worth the price of it though.
Great hidden gem in the financial district. Small menu, but the food was excellent. The ambiance is the best part. Warm wood colors, cozy layout, plenty of bar seating.
Service and food 100%.
We’ve dined at this restaurant several times before but unfortunately the service has plummeted. It started when we first arrived. The host attempted to sit us inside despite us making a reservation for outdoor seating. She claimed there was no more outside seating available but after we pushed back was able to seat us outside where there were literally six empty tables. Before meeting our waiter, we saw him arguing with another member of staff and was visibly annoyed that another table had been sat in his section. The service was rushed, unfriendly, and simply bad. I would have ordered a side of a better attitude if it was available.
Worst server ever. Was rude and inattentive.
We had a great time. They made our 5th anniversary very special
As always, the fried chicken was delicious - crisp on the outside, juicy on the inside and not at all greasy. The ribs were quite good, but I would have preferred the sauce on the fried green tomatoes to be served on the side, as it overpowered them a bit. The fried asparagus was something I haven't seen on menus, and was quite good. The Caesar salad was excellent - one of the best around. Overall, a really good meal and dining experience.
The staff was very accommodating. This was my first time out since the pandemic restrictions. Was very pleased with the experience. Our waiter Sean was excellent.
Great birthday outing! Glad to see you guys are still open.
Opted to sit at the bar now that it’s available to us once again. Hank really took care of my wife as it was her Birthday. Food, service and ambiance were top notch as always.
It didn't seem like the
Choose the salmon over the chicken. It was absolutely delicious.
Chairs used for outdoor seating are very uncomfortable. Restaurant needs to supply heaters that are closer to guest tables. We literally froze while eating!
Took best friend for dinner. Everything was excellent!
Excellent food and great service! I would definitely recommend trying this place out!
I stumbled across Wayfare Tavern a few years ago when I just moved to San Francisco and was looking for a place to enjoy dinner with a friend. I have been back for brunch and on this most recent visit I was there for dinner with friends. I made a reservation and we were seated upstairs and it when I didn't think the place could be any cuter it was upstairs.
Our server was amazing and she offered some great recommendations for food and drinks. The popper pastries they serve are AMAZING! We tried the Delores Cocktail which was so yummy. For our meal we started with Burrata Toast then we had Fried Chicken, the Wayfare Burger, Mac n Cheese, and the Burrata Whipped Potatoes. We did not have room for dessert but the table next to us was raving about the donuts.
If you want a wonderful meal with great service then this is the place for you!
Popovers are amazing! Fabulous menu choices - we ordered many dishes and loved each one. Highly recommend this restaurant.
