All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

Great food and ambiance!
We went for our anniversary and they made it very special!
Great food. Excellent service. A little pricey, but not outrageously so. I’ll definitely be back!
The food and service were very good, but prices are expensive. And for those prices I got to suffer through a business lunch with so much background noise that it was exhausting to have a conversation. I cancelled a forthcoming lunch there for this reason.
Fried chicken is a MUST!!!!! Shrimp cocktail the best i ever had!! Definitely going back
This was my second visit to Wayfare (first was 5 years ago) while visiting San Franciso. My son and I had an amazing dinner. He raved about the salmon, especially the French lentils and the blood orange beurre blanc. I enjoyed the fried chicken and Brussels sprouts. Huge portion of chicken, so I will enjoy it as leftovers for lunch! We will be sure to return the next time we are in SF!
This place is usually VERY noisy, but since it was Presidents’ Day...it was really nice! Server could have been more attentive, but we had a great dinner
Food was amazing. Accommodated a food allergy. Loved the aesthetics of the restaurant. But have to admit the waiter was very abrupt and in some cases rude detracting from the experience (when we tried to order appetizers he insisted that we order our appetizers and main dish at same time, reached over me and grabbed my glass from the top drinking rim to move it in order to place a dish on the table, etc.). Another small note is I requested a booth in our reservation but they sat us at a table when there was an empty booth close by. Had to ask to be seated at the booth instead and wait while hostess checked with the manager (my husband is 6’6” tall and small dining chairs do not fit him), In the end, we were given the booth but at this price point, these details should be acknowledged.
We had a late reservations. 830pm. We got seated right away. And our server Ed was very nice n his suggestions were awesome. Their bread was delicious. Our Lobster was expensive but worth it. The Organic fried chicken was so good. Next time, I want to try their steak. Over all the appetizers and main course was delicious. With drinks. For 2, we spent about $200 but it was worth it. I would def come back here. I can’t wait to visit Tyler Florence other restaurant.
Great restaurant overall. Food tasted better than I expected.
This experience from start to finish was EXQUISITE. The flavor profiles on this menu were so compatible, flavors bursting in your mouth without ever conflicting or overpowering one another. The service amazing. The restaurant BEAUTIFUL. The drinks incredible. We did brunch on a Sat.
We started with Bacon Bloody Mary's, Deviled eggs, and Buratta toast. ALL BEYOND DELICIOUS. We shared a Butter Lettuce Salad with probably the best version of Green Goddess dressing I have ever had. I ate the Red Flannel Hash... No words.. Perfectly poached egg, PERFECT amount of Bernaise, lean corned beef, sweet, sweet red beets and soft&sweet yukon gold potatoes on the inside, just right crispy on the outside. My husband had the famous Chicken & Waffles... They aren't called the best in the country for nothing..
We also had a a dirty martini and a Tavern Sour... Those Bartenders know how to make perfect drinks...
Wildfish in San Diego has been our favorite restaurant for 8 years... Until now....
Do not miss this find...
This restaurant is absolutely not worth it. The food quality is terrible compared to similarly priced restaurants.
Their “famous” fried chicken was bland and dry. The mashed potatoes were basically a soup (I tried to get a forkful to taste it and it all dripped right through the fork). The only good stuff on the menu are the drinks and you’ll need to consume several to numb the pain of paying a ridiculous amount of money for such crappy food. I liked the ambience and our waiter was pretty good but beyond that... I’ll never go back there again and I’ll never recommend this place to anyone.
We were welcomed to the table with a “Happy Anniversary” card from the team. Everything about the meal, service and wait time was great! Especially considering that it was Valentine’s Day and a Friday night. This was our third visit to Wayfare Tavern (including our wedding reception) and we will most definitely be back again.
Great food. Could not taste the chartreuse in the root beer float. A little bummed about that. Otherwise, it was a solid experience.
Went with my co-workers. Everyone was super happy with their food. Had the bahn mi; it was excellent! Pickled veggies cut the richness of friend chicken. Perfect combo!
Popular place! Glad we got a reservation for lunch. After getting seated, the service was good and the food tasted amazing. Great appetizers and sides (we got burrata toast, Brussels sprouts, mac n cheese, and burrata potatoes). Good portion and delicious food (we got fried chicken, salmon (off menu special), filet mignon sandwich (off menu special), and the risotto.
Food was awesome. Water refills a little slow. We were in the primate room upstairs so perhaps that was a factor. Overall it was excellent.
Always incredibly fresh delicious food and great attentive service! We’ll be back soon
As always, attentive staff and well prepared food. Always a good time.
Celebrated my birthday and previewed our wedding reception venue. Every interaction with staff was fantastic, food was great.
We had dinner and it was a special occasion, birthday. Our waiter and the manager made us feel very welcome and attended too. I would highly recommend it again. My trout was lovely and my husband and son shared the steak tartare and loved that as well. Very much enjoyed the popovers. Loved my little birthday tart and take home treat.
This restaurant was recommended for it's Fried Chicken and it did not disappoint!
The chicken and seasonings are absolutely fantastic, but share it since it is 1/2 a chicken... unless your heart can take that much fried chicken?
Also, make a reservation because this joint gets crowded between 6P and 8P.
Our server was fantastic!
Definitely. And we'll probably go back, too, since there are other things we would like to sample.
Everything was perfect.
Food was terrific. Service was a disappointment.
Wayfare Tavern never disappoints - it's always a fantastic meal with impeccable service. We've yet to order a single item that we haven't raved about. And yes, it's true, the fried chicken really is that good.
Fried chicken was dry and disappointing
Terrible service. I had to ask to speak with a manager regarding our experience which I never do. I am not sure if our waiter had a problem with us specifically, or our ethnic background, but we definitely felt singled out in a negative way. He told us that we needed to order quickly and vacate our seats by 6:30pm (2 hours away) which was very unnecessary. Furthermore, he stuck a utensil in our food while I was taking a photo of our food, also uncalled for and completely mystified us. He heard us ask for the wine list 3 times before he brought it, after our meal was served when we clearly wanted wine with our meal. He didn’t offer the dessert menu, and ignored us for 15 minutes after we settled the bill (he took the receipt to check his tip) while we had to inquire twice about our leftovers. The food was unimpressive in light of the abysmal way we were treated on our night out. The manager has nothing much to say on why service was terrible except to ask us to come visit again. Incredibly disappointed.
Took forever to get seated even though I had a reservation, which definitely dampened the mood for the rest of the night.
It's always a pleasure to dine at the Wayfare Tavern. I love the food, the ambiance and the people! The best chicken on the planet
The waitress told us our tip wasn’t sufficient and that her previous guests hadn’t tipped her. We felt rushed out. We will not be returning and will suggest a different location for future business and social events.
They gave me a birthday card and wished me Happy 😃 Birthday! Very nice touch. Food came out timely and great relaxing atmosphere and service with a smile. My second time dining here and every food item is excellent from the Tavern Burger 🍔, king Salmon just melted in your mouth and popular fried chicken were excellent. The sides were excellent squash and Brussel Sprouts were very good.
Our waitress was very attentive to our needs. She explained about restaurant week but only if we all wanted it. I. Our case we didn’t. I had a long coat and she was sure to have a hanger available. The food was rich in meat in the case of the pork shank. The vegetables were well prepared. My son had a half of chicken with no vegetables. I would suggest the hamburger of the salmon my wife had. The beer was excellent from Scotland. Mostly men after work were there.
traditional Restaurant, solid Food, veery good deviled eggs
Would have given Wayfare Tavern a 5 star review if had not been for the poor service at the bar when we arrived. We sat at the bar for no less than 10 minutes before anyone even looked up to acknowledge us and at least another 10 before we got our cocktails and just as we were being called for our table. It seemed as though they were understaffed. Maybe someone didn’t come in as scheduled, but if we had even been acknowledged we would have understood that sometimes things are unavoidable. Out table was right next to the kitchen door, which again somewhat understandable. Our table waitstaff was very nice and attentive. We did however watch a bar glass travel around the table for the entire meal and never be picked up. It was rather entertaining and comical, but questionable. Food was perfect. It was restaurant week and we all ended getting the fried chicken and were not disappointed. Appetizers were delicious, popovers were amazing and the dessert donuts were out of this world. We left in a culinary coma!
Really appreciated Restaurant week menu a guest that is a vegetarian.
The food is no reason to dine at Wayfare Tavern. It is unremarkable. Since there are so many great options in San Francisco, why bother. You go there if you work in the financial district and want a drink or a meal w/ your investment banker. Period.
The front of the house staff are well trained and professional. Service is excellent. The kitchen needs to catch up.
