All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

Just me. Greatest experience. Fried chicken!
Food was delicious! Service was great! Will definitely visit again the next time I am in San Francisco.
We had the prix fix dinner for restaurant week. The chicken was as good as usual but the quantity for each person would have been about the same for if we split a normal order. Normally we’d split the order and share another salad for a little less price. The dessert donut fell flat.
Happy to have the pop overs though.
I just brought my elderly parents to Wayfare for lunch, and I just wanted to compliment the staff for their attentiveness. Everyone treated my parents like they were their own grandparents! They literally ran to the car when we pulled up to help my mom get out. Food was great as well. Thank you for your great service!
The host was absolutely unprofessional, he does bot have manners the service was awful and the food bad. I normally do not leave comments but this time I had too. Too bad to let it pass. The reservation was made and they didn’t care.
Super disappointed. Waiter disappeared for nearly an hour at a time. Never checked on us. Never even brought us the check (a bus boy did). When I asked the hostess to help us find him, he came back with our drinks and never asked our food order. I stopped him to get him back. He took our order and never came back. Our dinner for four took nearly 3 hours and most of that was waiting on our server.
Love the atmosphere at this restaurant. Casual. Jeans okay. Very busy - make a reservation. Fried Chicken and the donuts are A+
Wonderful, memorable meal - and not just because it was our first indoor meal since the pandemic. I arrived 15 minutes early yet was seated right away. For the rest of the (long and leisurely) dinner, despite a line outside, we never felt rushed. The food was fantastic from start to finish, as were the drinks. My favorite part might have been the (complimentary) popover with amazing butter! The fried chicken was to die for and what we expected, and the burrata potatoes side was perhaps the most amazing potato dish I've ever tasted.
This was my first time at Wayfare Tavern and I can't wait to go back! I highly recommend it.
Service was five-star. Enjoyed the food.
We dined outside so you don’t have the same warm ambiance as inside. That said they did a fantastic job with the setup. Heat lamps and good table separation. The waiters all wore masks. And most importantly, the food was so delicious. Can’t wait to go back!!
Took my daughter out for her birthday (1 year later than planned). Had high expectations. We were not disappointed. The fried chicken was very tender and moist with excellent flavor. My daughter and I split the chicken, getting an extra piece. We each got a different side- Mac and cheese and whipped potatoes. The potatoes were the best option with the chicken, but the Mac and cheese was very good, maybe lacking a little in salt. We got the doughnuts and strawberry cake for dessert. Delicious. The Waiter was very attentive and our service was great. We will go again when my daughter visits California.
Love Wayfare Tavern. Since we recently moved into the neighborhood, we tried it for the first time a few weeks ago and we just will keep coming back. Food, service and ambience are absolutely delightful.
Excellent service. Incredible flavor. Highly recommend.
Wayfare is a beloved classic for a reason. This was my first indoor dining experience post-pandemic (both of us were vaccinated). It almost felt normal, except for masks in between courses. You can also sit outside (they have a big covered area with heaters). It was very windy on the night we went, so we opted for inside.
So grateful for the wonderful owners and dedicated staff that keep this SF treasure open, and for all of their mobile meals all pandemic.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here . It is a beautiful restaurant! Everything was comfortable and the food was delicious. Our waiter , Sean, was so attentive and we followed all of his recommendations. He was an excellent guide and so kind. We really enjoyed everything but the chicken was a stand out. We also really loved the pork chops. The donuts were our very favorite dessert. 4 stars
Outstanding ... great COVID protocols but even better, an outstanding meal with great wines. Glad to have them back during the week for lunch.
hello, I have eaten at the wayfare tavern many times. they always do a good job. holly
Fantastic!!! Had Easter lunch here and it was absolutely perfect. We sat outside and were so pleased with how they made sure we were comfortable on the brisk SF day with blankets and heat lamps. Service was attentive and on point. Food was of course delicious - just as we'd expect. It was such a treat to be dining out again in almost a year. Five stars.
Service was off on Easter. Took quite some time for our server to stop by and even take drink orders. The rest of the interaction was like he was doing us a favor by being there. Pretty disappointed, as service in the past has been stellar.
Amazing dishes, but staff is a disappointment. Would recommend, the food makes up for any grievances.
Absolutely Amazing! Gotta get the doughnuts!!! Cocktails were yummy!
Great ambience, nice server, first time back in a real restaurant in a year. Loved it!
Not warm enough
We went for Easter brunch and to celebrate a birthday. Everything here was delicious as always!
Friends in town from la
We celebrated a lovely birthday lunch at Wayfare Tavern. We started with cocktails that were innovative and flavorful, then moved on to their amazing popovers. Lunch was also tasty, followed by the delightful donuts for dessert.
Amazing food, especially the fried chicken! And, our waiter recommended an excellent white wine from France.
Excellent food and professional kind service. Love this restaurant as an example of SF dining at its best! Their outdoor seating and Covid precautions are excellent.
A solid San Francisco Tavern fare and barroom in the heart of SF. Easy parking at Portsmouth Garage in Chinatown.
Our servers were excellent. I'd come back just for that.
Fried chicken was very good and the popovers are amazing.
Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! I brought my grown daughter and her best friend. the waiter was just outstanding and joined in our banter in such a nice and funny way...created a really nice vibe for all of us!
I think Wayfare Tavern is one of the best restaurants in SF. It has an old school feel that fits in perfect with their FiDi location, but it's not all in the looks. The menu is focused and excellent. They offer sizeable entrees but also easily accommodate a more shareable style of dining when requested. The cocktails are both delicious and interesting. The wine list is great with local Californian and offerings from abroad. I highly highly recommend the fried chicken.
Love the atmosphere and our server was amazing.
Everything from the drinks to the dessert was fabulous!
Food was amazing! Service was also good but it took a while for our entrees to come. Good thing we got appetizers. Also recommend the wine list.
Great Experience!! The staff was amazing letting us have a private room!
Returning after a year. Every bit as fantastic as before. Carlos our guide to this wonderful experience was amazing and made our experience the best. We will be back again and and again. A real keeper!
Love everything and they have done a nice job with the outdoor set up
