All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

The chicken was amazing and so were the oysters. I felt like the waiter thought maybe we didn't belong? We were wearing work clothes... I don't know.
Delicious Sunday brunch. Deviled eggs and fried chicken were standouts.
Ambiance, food and drink was excellent. Needed to arrive a bit later for full menu availability. Great wine selection. Chef even signed a menu on special request! Thanks!!!
It was good but little things would have made it seem to provide more value. I just came back from Europe and restaurants aren't so crowded and noisy. They're also more personal allowing time to connect with owner, hostess, and wait staff. European restaurants are fun, too, just much more genteel. It must be difficult for the staff to operate in such close and loud quarters. If the staff is treated really well they can pass on the good will to customers. Also, little niceties would be appreciated. How about a small bite of something sweet at the end of the meal? A chocolate for each person with the check would be nice, for example. How about a momento to remember the restaurant? I thought it was exceedingly cheap to be charged $3.50 for a class of club soda and extremely rude to be charged another $3.50 for a refill. Really?? This did not feel kind or generous. How much does club soda cost you?? Nothing personal about the experience so I wouldn't make an effort to go back or recommend it to a friend.
Always an awesome experience! Everytime I come to SF I have to stop in for a relaxing meal. The atmosphere, service and quality of food can't be best! Totally worth the effort! Tip- parking can be challenging- check out options before heading over.
Service was a tad slow but we were in a corner. Wine was delicious. Chicken was perfect. Salad left a lot to be desired. Popovers were divine. Fire place was quaint but got to be sooo hot. Overall a nice experience. I assume dinner menu is amazing.
Meh. It used to be one of my favorite places, too! Fried chicken was soggy which was a disappointment and while our waitress was great, the other encounters with members of the team (checking-in, other waitstaff) was unhelpful or wrong.
Didn't like the fried chicken (not dark enough and a crumbly coating). Cioppino had a thick sauce versus a more soupy broth that I'm used to.
The food was so salty we could not eat it. Took it home and doctored it up.
The Rizzoto was so salty I added a two cups of rice to it to dilute it and then added the Broccolini into as well.
The fried chicken edible without the skin.
Next time I see Tyler I plan on letting him know.
Xmas luncheon with cousins
Definitely recommend this place with delicious food and generous portion! it is very nicely decorated, don't let the name Tavern fool you, the carpeted staircase to upstairs is beautiful. I ordered the butternut squash soup and prime beef tartare. They are both delicious and more than enough for me as a meal.
I will go back to Wayfare next time i am in San Francisco, it is in the financial district, just a few minutes
walk from the Loews Regency hotel
Was amazing all around. Only unfavorable thing was that the table we were seated at was close to a window and there was a very cold draft that was noticeably uncomfortable to party members sitting along that side of the table. But food and service and ambiance was on point as usual!!
Beautiful building and lovely staff. We had deviled eggs, fried chicken (probably the best I’ve had), risotto, broccolini and mac n cheese. Everything was cooked to perfection. The only bummer was not realizing the broccolini came with a sauce that was served on the bottom of the plate until I had eaten quiet a bit of it. The sauce was delicious! I wanted to just eat that with a spoon.
Everything about Wayfare Tavern speaks to its brand as an upscale British style pub. From the corner location, black and white awning, and Transamerica building background to the dark woods and taxidermy inside. We enjoyed their rendition of Chicken & Waffles but do feel the dish is best with less bones and more maple syrup. That said, the gravy was unique and delicious. Service was in line with fine dining.
The host as well as our server were both professional, tentative, and nice. I had I expectations walking into this Tyler Florence's restaurant and Wayfare Tavern delivered.
We were seated upstairs and it was very nice. Our wait staff was excellent seeing to all our needs
Our party had the sides as an appetizer. The Brussels sprouts and potatoes were delicious. For entrees we had the salmon , the burger, the risotto and the fried chicken. Everyone loved their meal and said it was delicious. The bread croissant was fantastic
Every item, even the butter, was extremely salty. One person in our party who loves adding lots of salt to all his food commented it was too salty. We asked for slice of onion on burger instead of the marmalade that it comes with. It was forgotten. Our waiter did not check with us as to how the food was after it was delivered. We couldn’t get his attention till the burger was half eaten already. He then came back with pickle onions as they don’t have a slice of onion. When one of our party finished eating the waiter cleared away his plates reaching across the two who were still eating. He did it again when the second person finished eating teaching across the third person who was still eating who had to pull back and wait to avoid his hand moving plates cutlery etc. We had been for dinner before and the menu had extensive selections. This is the first time we had lunch here. The menu was very limited. On top of that we were told that several items were not available as it was day after Thanksgiving and the kitchen hasn’t prepared the food yet, including the macaroni and cheese.
Everything was wonderful. We were seated at a table upstairs, but we asked to sit at the bar and they obliged. No complaints from us.
The pork shank was cooked correctly, but was served on a salty mess of lentils. Should have sent it back but was going to a show and couldn’t risk it
Warm, attentive service. Pleasant noise level. Jazzy old school playlist. Popovers were warm and delicious. Fried chicken lived up to its reputation. Salad was fresh and uniquely served on a wood board. Overall, a wonderful dinner experience.
Cocktails are delish, the wine and beer list is amazing. The service (except for the front desk staff, who could not get their act together) is outstanding. I adore the ambience, but the food is meh. I expected more from Tyler Florence.
We Ordered the pirk special, I order the apple salad and side of Brussels sprouts, all were fabulous. Gourmet feast.
William Awesome 👏
Wayfare has been one of my favorite places to go in the city for a long time. It almost seems like an old-fashioned dining club that welcomes everyone to enjoy their wonderful food.
Had brunch. Excellent burger and French toast. Good wine list and not pricey. Well done
Food was ok. mac and cheese was weak. burger was ok but messy and fell apart. not worth $23. friend got fried chicken which they claim was the best. it wasn't. service was good. energy was good. but not good bang for the buck value.
The food was cold and under cooked. I ordered 2 glasses of Chardonnay and was brought water in the wine glass both times, the manager came over, apologized and brought me another glass of water.... then they opened a new bottle and suddenly Chardonnay appeared. We ordered appetizers, salad, a meal, dessert and coffee and was not even completed with any course before the waiter tried to take our plates!! I will never go again or recommend this restaurant!! Shame on you Tyler Florence!! I expected so much more from you!!
Wonderful night out. Great staff and food was amazing! We both had the fried chicken, which may be the best we've had in the country.
Amazing find. Great atmosphere. Exceptional food. Great service. It is atmospheric and loud - we love the but if you want an intimate chat, it may be too loud. Short Ribs to die for....
This place is so amazing! I have had lunch there and I thought it was awesome, but dinner was an unforgettable meal. I can't wait to go back!
Best fried chicken ever! The burrata mashed potatoes were also really good.
Best fried chicken ever!! Service is extraordinary here. This is one of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco. It never fdisappoints
Truly terrific meal! Mushroom Risotto and Fried Chicken are outstanding. Healthy portions too.
The bartender was fantastic. Personable
Try the new Brunch. Food was very mediocre. Service tried hard but 1 Bartender 30 minutes to the first round really tried patience. Food was ok. Expected better was very excited about the new Brunch.
Really appreciated the birthday card
I was so looking forward to the fried chicken after hearing about it and reading reviews. It was a bit over cooked and quite pedestrian to be honest. The fried mushrooms were crunchier and delicious and we really liked the mushroom risotto. The sticky toffee pudding cake would have benefited more from a rich Caramel topping rather than the dark coffee sauce that it came with, but the donut dessert was a huge hit! We had coffee from the espresso bar and it was served HOT and was excellent quality.
The overall experience was not great. We were going to see Hamilton so I made an early reservation at 4:30. I was not informed that the dinner menu would not be available so that was disappointment #1 (it was a very limited menu). The place was definitely not business at 4:30 yet they sat us in the back corner right next to the server station, disappointment #2. This made the area very busy and my husbands chairs was bummed multiple times. In addition, they we’re fixing our table (table was wobbly) and the fireplace that I was sitting up against wasn’t lighting so someone was trying to fix it, disappointment #3. I do have to give credit to the food- pop overs were amazing as always and the burger was good!
The dining experience was wonderful with good energy from the staff. Food was delicious and just the right amount for the group. They went above and beyond to add to the birthday celebration.
Food is fine (not extra ordinary), service is fine (not fantastic), so, I would recommend this restaurant as a one time experience. But, if you have any hearing issues, or want a dining experience as opposed to an eating location, go some where else.
The food was excellent, especially the popovers. However, service was a bit slow and the noise level made it very difficult to have a conversation.
