All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

Wayfare is a beloved classic for a reason. This was my first indoor dining experience post-pandemic (both of us were vaccinated). It almost felt normal, except for masks in between courses. You can also sit outside (they have a big covered area with heaters). It was very windy on the night we went, so we opted for inside.
So grateful for the wonderful owners and dedicated staff that keep this SF treasure open, and for all of their mobile meals all pandemic.
We thoroughly enjoyed our meal here . It is a beautiful restaurant! Everything was comfortable and the food was delicious. Our waiter , Sean, was so attentive and we followed all of his recommendations. He was an excellent guide and so kind. We really enjoyed everything but the chicken was a stand out. We also really loved the pork chops. The donuts were our very favorite dessert. 4 stars
Outstanding ... great COVID protocols but even better, an outstanding meal with great wines. Glad to have them back during the week for lunch.
hello, I have eaten at the wayfare tavern many times. they always do a good job. holly
Fantastic!!! Had Easter lunch here and it was absolutely perfect. We sat outside and were so pleased with how they made sure we were comfortable on the brisk SF day with blankets and heat lamps. Service was attentive and on point. Food was of course delicious - just as we'd expect. It was such a treat to be dining out again in almost a year. Five stars.
Service was off on Easter. Took quite some time for our server to stop by and even take drink orders. The rest of the interaction was like he was doing us a favor by being there. Pretty disappointed, as service in the past has been stellar.
Amazing dishes, but staff is a disappointment. Would recommend, the food makes up for any grievances.
Absolutely Amazing! Gotta get the doughnuts!!! Cocktails were yummy!
Great ambience, nice server, first time back in a real restaurant in a year. Loved it!
Not warm enough
We went for Easter brunch and to celebrate a birthday. Everything here was delicious as always!
Friends in town from la
We celebrated a lovely birthday lunch at Wayfare Tavern. We started with cocktails that were innovative and flavorful, then moved on to their amazing popovers. Lunch was also tasty, followed by the delightful donuts for dessert.
Amazing food, especially the fried chicken! And, our waiter recommended an excellent white wine from France.
Excellent food and professional kind service. Love this restaurant as an example of SF dining at its best! Their outdoor seating and Covid precautions are excellent.
A solid San Francisco Tavern fare and barroom in the heart of SF. Easy parking at Portsmouth Garage in Chinatown.
Our servers were excellent. I'd come back just for that.
Fried chicken was very good and the popovers are amazing.
Thoroughly enjoyed ourselves! I brought my grown daughter and her best friend. the waiter was just outstanding and joined in our banter in such a nice and funny way...created a really nice vibe for all of us!
I think Wayfare Tavern is one of the best restaurants in SF. It has an old school feel that fits in perfect with their FiDi location, but it's not all in the looks. The menu is focused and excellent. They offer sizeable entrees but also easily accommodate a more shareable style of dining when requested. The cocktails are both delicious and interesting. The wine list is great with local Californian and offerings from abroad. I highly highly recommend the fried chicken.
Love the atmosphere and our server was amazing.
Everything from the drinks to the dessert was fabulous!
Food was amazing! Service was also good but it took a while for our entrees to come. Good thing we got appetizers. Also recommend the wine list.
Great Experience!! The staff was amazing letting us have a private room!
Love everything and they have done a nice job with the outdoor set up
Returning after a year. Every bit as fantastic as before. Carlos our guide to this wonderful experience was amazing and made our experience the best. We will be back again and and again. A real keeper!
Great meal, Caley was an excellent server and glad to be helping the SF restaurant scene to get back on track! Highly recommended.
The fried chicken is to die for. Great service. Top place
Thanks to all the staff for a wonderful first indoor dining experience. Food and service are back in full swing!!
Always wonderful and delicious!
One of my favorite restaurants. Didn’t care for the table and probably should’ve requested a different one; very small, on the aisle, and felt cramped the whole time. First outing since covid and I was grateful to be dining in a restaurant but will speak up next time.
I’m not sure what happened. This has been my favorite place for the past decade. The service and food was the worst in San Francisco.
The waiter kept forgetting to give us our bottle of wine and we got it so late.
We decided to get the special, which was the steak. Everyone’s steak was cold and not cooked.
No one asked us how our food was and our waiter disappeared for a long time.
Someone eventually came and asked how their food was and why my friend didn’t eat her food. She responded with: “this was pretty raw” the guy just said okay and then walked away.
The guy also tried to pour red wine that wasn’t mine into my glass when I kept telling him I didn’t want any and that I was drinking white wine but he kept pouring.
No one came over for the longest time and we felt like we could have just walked away from the table and not paid for dinner.
It was the weirdest service. To take my girlfriend there for the first time and to have raved about it for 6 months, you could imagine how underwhelming it was. Also, I had a friend who said she’d never come here again.
Just terrific! Great menu, great service, great atmosphere!
Not the best experience service wasn’t great and salmon piece was tiny....
I’ll be dreaming of our wonderful meal for a long time. We had a wonderful time a d a great dinner. Thank you
Great food snd service!
We love the San Francisco charm, the service and of course the popovers!
Food was excellent. Service was a bit sporadic. Seems they need a little bit of re-training. Probably out of practice. Our waitress was nice but messed up our order twice. Only came by when we waived her down. Otherwise it was fine.
Wonderful experience. The popovers were a delicious start to the meal. We had fresh burrata and steak tartare as an appetizer and both were excellent. This was followed by their signature fried chicken and salmon. Both my husband and I are still talking about the wonderful meal and can't wait to go back. Our waiter was extremely courteous and knowledgeable. Just a great dinner.
