All three floors of the restaurant have been designed keeping historical accuracy in mind making Wayfare Tavern reminiscent of a Victorian parlor and an Edwardian men's club, where anything goes from black-tie to blue jeans. Pull up a stool to the Chef's Counter at the open kitchen and look on as Chef prepares your lunch or head to the Library and Billiard Room for a game of pool. Wayfare Tavern is a truly unparalleled dining experience translated from a century ago. Photo: John Lee.

This used to be a good restaurant, but we were disappointed this time.
Chicken was blah.
Waiter was odd and kept walking away mid sentence...
Restaurant was emptying out and the staff began banging dishes down on the
tables as a hint that they wanted us out of there....
Probably won't go back...
Go for the beef tartare, best in the city! The Wayfare Tavern specializes in some old favorites that aren't really seen elsewhere these days.
Server chose to spend his time with the table of eight and only asked for a drink order 12 minutes after I was seated.
Went with my wife and was everything really wonderfull. Had one of the best burgers of my life. The wine list is also very good. Wouldn’t say it’s cheap, but certainly we had a great time.
Love this place, always great food and service! Little on the pricey side but worth it
Great atmosphere. Best fried chicken in the nation. Great service
Get the fried chicken! Enough said. You won’t regret it.
Food was average - fried zucchini was terrible.
Server was awesome, but would not go back
Wayfare never disappoints! We have made this a regular stop for any celebration we can find!
Everything was perfect, wonderful service and outstanding food
The service was kind, however, the food they brought us was the wrong order. The food that came wrong, he removed it from the table, I wonder if there was any point of that. It was fairly expensive for not great quality like it used to be, I don't think I would be coming back.
Excellent food and service!
Our server was great food was awesome
Let's get this over with: it's pretty good fried chicken. Best in the country? Not even the best in the Bay Area (Miss Ollie's) or San Francisco (Front Porch).
I arrived before my date, so a server came by asking if I preferred still or sparkling water; I opted for sparkling, and they brought a hand-filled carafe of it (which they later charged me for). A second server took my wine order; I asked for the Paso Robles and he looked blank, so I said the Vaca Roja. A few minutes later a third server brought over a glass of red, saying "Your rioja." I said I hadn't ordered a rioja. "You didn't order the tempranillo?" No, I hadn't.
The second server returned and said he must have misunderstood. I pointed out on the menu that the Tempranillo is from the rioja region of Spain, while the Vaca Roja is from Paso Robles. He went away and brought what I had ordered, which was very nice.
My friend ordered the highly touted fried chicken, while I asked the waiter about the cacio e pepe, which he said was terrific, especially because of the chanterelle mushrooms (not a typical cacio e pepe ingredient, but whatever), so I got that. Our food arrived and, although I was distracted by our conversation, I eventually realized there were no chanterelles in the pasta. I couldn't find our waiter so I called over another one, and he explained that they had JUST run out (but they couldn't be bothered to tell me?). Our waiter eventually came over and comped me the pasta. Then another waiter and said "Your tempranillo, sir."
It’s fine not great. Very nice place, food it good, service sucks. Our waiter appeared drunk. Another server poured our 200 dollar wine like it was water. The tartar was great.
The Wayfare Tavern is a bustling pub in the middle of SF's FiDi. Great food, good service, lively ambiance. The only thing I would mention as a slight negative is that the wine list improperly described one of the French Bordeaux selections as a Grand Cru Classe when it was in fact the second bottling and not the Grand Cru Classe. It was still an excellent wine and in a good year, so no complaints but the wine list was a bit misleading. The evening was very pleasant, and I wouldn't hesitate to return when hosting a business dinner.
Food was great and good sized portions. Very noisy restaurant so still hard to have a conversation. Disappointed that when we couldn’t finish our popovers, they didn’t include it with our leftovers. Because the leftovers and bagged and kept at the exit, there was no way of knowing until we were ready to leave. At such a high price point for lunch, we were disappointed about that - most of the table.
Way overrated. Pork chop was not a good cut and incorrectly cooked - was not medium - was chewy as well done. Can’t believe fried chicken is the rage. Tasted just like, exactly like, Shake-Bake. Service is absolutely horrendous. Server never checked to see if food was cooked properly, no one ever refilled our wine glasses from our bottle, cork was broken in bottle but I was never told ( I happened to see wine person struggling to get of cork out). One and done at this place. Very unimpressive.
Great food great service
Delicious food!!!! Wish we had gone here sooner!
We went for the famous chicken and both felt the serving was large, the dark meat was moist and good but the white meat was very dry to my taste. Good dining experience but does just good really live up to its reputation?
Best Fried Chicken, don't skip it! Enough for 2 people and share a side. The space is a little tight but very cool!
Great spot to have a typical San Francisco Dining experience! Our waiter was fantastic!
Food was perfect and our waiter helped us design a meal that we could share and experience
a few of the specialties.
One of only a few FiDi spots open on the weekend, I managed to sneak in just shy of noon on a Sunday and had no trouble getting a table, though it was much more full by the time I left. Every member of the staff was cordial and friendly, and I never felt as if I had been left forgotten. Though let's get to what matters, the food. It's incredible. Rather than a full meal I opted for a couple sides, an order of burrata toast that was among the best things I have ever eaten, and an amazing mac and cheese that was also very good. They have Fort Point Beer on tap, and so the whole experience was about as good as one could ask for.
After being seated, I was so disappointed with the general ambience that I left and ate elsewhere.
The butter lettuce Green Godess salad and amazing fried chicken keep us coming back! Classic atmosphere, great wine list and friendly service never disappoint. We have also tried many other items on the menu and are really impressed by the mushroom pasta, burratta with figs and always the popovers.
Love it every time! Popovers are amazing!
Amazing food. Fried chicken was very good. Great ambiance. Definitely will return!
To put bluntly, I’m a widower who needs occasional me-time. Wayfare provides, excellently!
The salad with fried chicken is to die for
Food and service was great. It was a tight squeeze walking by our table and staff was getting bumped into us, it was noisy. Over all it was good and I would go back
Great food and awesome service.
The service was perfect! Helpful, present, engaging but not obtrusive.
The food was amazing, we had the crab sandwich special, Mac and cheese and the 2 piece side of chicken. I’m still thinking about the Mac and Cheese! The popovers are a nice treat and great way to start off the meal. We very much enjoyed lunch here and will definitely return.
The food and service was very good but it was too tightly packed and noisy to carry on dinner conversation. the noise level was really excessive. They have a system to collect and deliver carryout leftovers when you leave, but the waiter ignored instructions and combined the food from two parties into the same containers.
The food was absolutely delightful. Definitely going back for the pork chop and fried chicken.
LOVED THIS RESTAURANT!!! Great food!!! Fantastic service!!! Classic SF vibe!!!! Great spot!!!
The Food was good but somewhat over priced and the serve did not explain the details clearly. My guests felt rushed by him and did not seem too friendly.
A notch below my normal experience at Wayfare. Don’t know if the late time meant the kitchen was closing and we caught the end of things or what but it was a tad off. No fried rosemary on my chicken, pop-overs were soggy and cold, Mac and cheese was slightly over cooked. Otherwise everything was great!
amazing service. great food. great design and concept.
The food was pretty terrible, and overpriced. My pasta was mushy. The deviled eggs were not appealing. My husband said his entree was really bad, and he never complains.
