Wave Seafood Kitchen at Danford's Hotel and Marina Ratings and Reviews
Nice atmosphere and excellent food. Overhead heater was overbearing and uncomfortable. Tables too close together so wait staff had to reach across table to serve you; tres gauche. Not worthy of a $100 per plate restaurant. Would think twice about a return visit.
Our server was GREAT. He was very patient Out chairs were comfortable and table was a good size but 1/2 way through dinner a woman started singing and it was so loud! We couldn’t really hear one another and one of the reasons we went to a restaurant instead of a club was so we could sit and talk. So next year we will prob choose a different more quite place.
Danford’s has had a reputation in Port Jefferson for upscale dining, hotel, etc. Unfortunately, other than the space, beverage selections/service and cuisine are on par with quality diner fare. Cocktails were served in incorrect glasses and bar ware was cheap. Hard liquor selection was surprisingly limited. Appetizers and main dishes were, again, pedestrian and/or simply not executed as one would expect for fine dining. Example: Atlantic cod served with fennel - the fish was almost cooked properly but arrived cold and was tasteless, served on a surprisingly dense potato-hash bed and surrounded by two small and tough bits of fennel necks. No sauce to speak of. Overall: Very disappointing. The view is lovely but if you’re looking for a quality meal, look for a better alternative.
The Wave is our go to place for a business holiday lunch for the last five years. We have always experienced very good service and great food in a festive waterfront atmosphere. We look forward to coming back for many more years to keep the tradition alive but to visit at other times of the year also. Always worth the trip!
Our food was truly outstanding. We especially loved the red wine, the cheesecake dessert (the bet we have ever had), the trout, and the potato leek soup. Our waiter, Austin, was the best we have ever head in our lives. He was so professional, polite, and knowledgeable.
First Visit to Danford's for dinner during Restaurant Week with friends. Everything was exceptional; the food as well as the service. Kudos to our waiter, Austin, who was more than accommodating. He went well above and beyond to make our dinner enjoyable. The new chef prepared a delicious menu with wonderful presentation.
The food quality this visit (during restaurant week) was very disappointing. Four people in our party of nine had the pork chop, and all found it extremely dry; no one finished their dish! One person had the chicken, which was also overcooked and excessively salty. Those who ordered the short ribs (an $8 surcharge on the price-fix menu) or the salmon were happy with their meals. The service was prompt and efficient. During our last visit the service was extremely slow (also a kitchen problem), and this time it was the food quality. Two strikes...
Thought we'd have a nice night out on the water. While the decor was nice the food was mediocre at best. Steaks way, way overdone, as was the salmon. Appetizers came out lukewarm. Bread came with dinner. AND to top it off the bill was $170 per couple. You can do better at a nice steakhouse.
Disappointed. I have dined there before and had good experience This left me wanting (a lot) more. Overpriced for what we received in quality ...:.underseasoned, slow service. I am a New Yorker so expensive dining is what I am used too. But I also expect service and food quality. Sorry folks at wave - you missed the mark. Big. About the only thing positive was the location. Other than being on the water, not much else was memorable. Let's just say my next visit to Port Jeff will skip dining at Wave Seafood. I will happily return to the Fifth Season to eat again though (Right up the street)
We truly enjoyed our dining experience. The service was wonderful. Our server was helpful, polite, and the food and drinks timed perfectly. We had a lovely table by the window which I had requested when I made the reservation. i really appreciate them fulfilling our request. We each had something different and all of the food was great. We look forward to dining with them again.
This place was such a disappointment. We had a lovely table and the location can't be beat, but the service and quality were terrible.
On the service side, we saw our server a grand total of 4 times over the course of a 2 hour dinner, including when our plates were delivered. This may be why they fired our mains without checking where we were on our starters. They showed up with our mains while we were half-way through with the starter. They then proceeded to clear the half-finished starter without a word (no even asking if we were done). Would have protested but for the fact that the starter sucked and we probably wouldn't have finished it anyway.
We also asked for some help with the wine list since I'm not as familiar with the American and Long Island wines they had on the list but even though they promised a manager would come by to answer questions, no one ever did. Would have been happy to spend money on a lovely bottle of wine but since no one showed up to help, we ended up with two mediocre glasses.
Finally, the food. It was terrible. Lost our starter but it was so bad, we didn't care. The two fish entrees we had were terrible. So over cooked, what should have been beautiful pieces of snapper and cod (two fish that even home cooks have a hard time screwing up) couldn't even be properly picked up with a fork! It was like eating fishy sawdust. And one of these was a special! To add insult to injury, the accompaniments for the awful fish weren't the beautiful vegetables that Long Island is blessed with at this time of year (peas, asparagus, green beans, carrots, tomatoes, corn, squash, etc...). No, we got winter, "communist" vegetables (potatoes and cauliflower).
In short, paid $85 for two 4oz, over-cooked fish fillets, accompanied by equally overlooked cellar veggies and farro that was so overcooked and mushy, my husband thought it was barley!
Dessert was ok.
In short, stay away. Not sure why the rating is so high. You'll regret going there.
I was so excited about eating here! My Mom's milestone birthday. I notified the restaurant and confirmed the celebration upon arrival. I heard it was renovated and the food was good. We had a drink at the bar that was just fabulous and the music outside was wonderful.... A guy named Jimmy Mazz playing guitar. I had brought my moms favorite dessert, as I had already checked and it was not on the menu. One of the chefs greeted me and said he would have made it special for her, had he known. I was sure it was going to be a special evening. Unfortunately it was downhill from there. It took forever for our food to come, although the restaurant was not busy. Our appetizer was cold. My main course was overcooked and had to be sent back. They did bring another which was fine. They proceeded to bring the dessert I brought and put a serving for one on the table in front of four of us, without asking is we wanted to order dessert, singing happy birthday, etc. What a mess. Sorry we hadn't stayed closer to home.
