Was there for lunch at noon. One large table and maybe 3 other tables filled in the restaurant. Did not get lunch for almost 45 minutes. Wait person explained the large table (maybe about 10 or 12 people) set the kitchen back. She was sorry. The 2 fish tacos at $13 were pathetically small with a little tasteless filling inside and the rice was almost cold. No offer was made to address this exceptionally long wait time which caused us to rush and leave.

I heard of Watts Grocery for a couple of years but always had a hard time justifying the 35 minute drive to try this place. We were attending a concert nearby that evening so we decided to give it a try, and we weren’t disappointed. The service is subdued & professional, and the dishes are prepared with great care and originality. Highly recommend any of the entrees and the starters were delicious too. We had to leave before we could try the desserts but hopefully, we’ll try them next time we go.

Excellent food, quick and efficient service. It was quiet as we came in right at opening but very much appreciated the ability to reserve a table for brunch - not many places provide that option.

American "tapas" aka don't expect to bring some leftovers. Small portions of fresh, made-to-ordee food that is worth the long wait. Service was slow...had to wait 5 minutes to get a dessert menu. Sad to say but we wont return.

Very pleasant restaurant with food to table menu. Service was pleasant. Very helpful with kids and good food for adults. Will go again. Note that despite Open Table saying they didn’t have seating, they did. Suggest calling for reservation.

Service was friendly and attentive. Food was very good. Had the scallops and they were very tasty if a tad bit over salted. Sweetie got fried catfish that he said was very good. Wine selection was comprehensive. We got the carmanere and it was very good

The food was good and the waiters were attentive, but the hostess rudely asked my group to leave immediately towards the end of our brunch because she needed the table. Even if it was acceptable to directly ask diners to leave for this reason (which I do not think it is), she could have been much more reasonable about it. Instead of any hint of being apologetic about the situation, she accused my group of staying past the reservation's "time limit of 2 hours" and causing a line of angry people who wanted our table. I've never heard of any reservation coming with a time limit on OpenTable, and even if that were true, we'd only been there 1.5 hours. I found it ridiculous all-around and defeating the point of a leisurely Sunday brunch. I get it, Watts is busy, but that's the case every weekend. I'm personally never going back, I have no need to be treated this way.

I usually have a good experience at this restaurant. Unfortunately it was not the case last weekend. I tried the cabbage wraps and they were bland. We had mixed reviews with the duck, one friend said it was ok and the other claimed his was too salty. Wine was good and the appetizers are always on target. Salad options were limited and the desserts were not very appealing. The service was great excellent. Too bad the food didn’t meet expectations.

Watts Grocery is a landmark in Durham and offers some really great comfort food. I recommend more for brunch than anything though. The food at brunch is so good. Some of the best pancakes you will ever have! Everything there is great, great service too!

Worth Going to
It was our first time in Watts Grocery and I must say it was quite pleasant. We had a very nice dinner with friends. There's not a whole lot of ambiance, but although there were a good number of people for a Wednesday evening, it was terrific that we could actually hear what our friends were saying without having to talk loudly. Service was attentive but not overbearing or rushed; both the starters and diner meals came to the table within expected time parameters. The Yellow-Fin and the Scallops were wonderful. Wine list is a bit limited but gets the job done. Pricing is fine for the quality and quantity you get. Definitely recommend going. Not "OMG" good, but very worthy nonetheless.

Should have ordered the pancakes!!! They looked amazing! I have been to Watts twice before for dinner and loved it. Brunch was eh. However, there was a wait and I had a reservation. When I told the front person I was catching a plane, they couldn't have been more accommodating in getting us out the door quickly. They were terrific. So I will be back for dinner another time, but I'd skip the brunch...unless I order the pancakes!

Terrific menu choices, flavors and presentation. We loved everything. Only come laintbis regarding confusion in delivering meals to the table (all placed wrong; ditto on desserts).

It would be nice if you had more options on your brunch menu, like things that are more commonly eaten at breakfast. There were very few options and we aren't comfortable with burritos and salmon for brunch.

The food was wonderful. We had 1 person with dietary needs that were met. Waiter was very nice and did a great job. The atmosphere is low key - so it was easy to have a quiet conversation.

This is a great restaurant to enjoy local food to table food and a menu selection with a southern flair. The service is very good, and the location allows for solid parking choices, which is nice for the downtown area. My only critique of the restaurant was the noise level. While some may enjoy energetic, due to the high ceilings, lack of sound baffles, and exposed beams, every conversation echoed throughout the establishment. As the room filled it became a cacophony of sound that made hearing your tablemate almost impossible. So, for the quiet, romantic meal - I'd advise against.

Four of us ate at Watts Grocery Friday night. Two of us had the black bean soup, which was good. One of us had the shrimp fritters, which she liked. Three of us had the market fish, which was flounder. The preparation was delicious. The fourth had the catfish, which he liked. We were seated in a little area off to the side, so we were able to converse easily. The restaurant was not crowded at all. While we enjoyed our meal, we will probably not go back soon as we prefer a more lively atmosphere.

Hi expectations for authentic southern cooking, based on past reviews and buzz about the place. Too much cheese on top of a couple of dishes, masking the other flavors. Best thing about it was the bread basket. We asked our server for a recommendation, and she said she hadn't tried a lot of the entrees. Real miss.

We have eaten many times at Watts Grocery and it's always pleasant. We love the food! The corn bread is to die for and the food is comforting and Southern in style. They have gone out of their way to deliver brunch in a timely fashion, come up with very interesting non-alcoholic drinks for my pregnant daughter and generally accommodate us and make us enjoy the experience.

We made reservations through open table for a birthday celebration at Sunday Brunch. They advertised a yummy bloody Mary, but the drink was very sad looking (only a lime?) for a brunch special I was looking for celery, olives, etc. The tomato mix was old and had a strange aftertaste, the bar tender agreed the first drink was not good and prepared a second. The second drink, sadly, had the same aftertaste. We ended up with a bottle of wine and ditched the drinks. We were not charged for the bloody Mary's but it was disappointing.

The waitress was friendly but not accommodating. We wanted to try the pimento cheese as an appetizer but where told we could not get this on Sundays, we also wanted to have a little of the grits and and a little of the hash browns with our eggs Benedict but where told we could only do one. Again a little disappointing.

We will try again perhaps, but maybe for dinner.
