Todd Grey's Watershed serves early breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its menu features farm deviled eggs and oysters, as well as hushpuppies and shrimp with grits. Visitors can also choose from a variety of soups and salads and finish their dining experience with desserts such as lemon merengue with coconut ice cream.

We reserved a table for a casual business lunch. The Watershed is really the only restaurant in the area so it's the usual choice. That said, it does not take advantage of that by overpricing their menu. They are pricier since they are a hotel restaurant but their buffet is reasonable and the service is friendly.
I was introduced to this restaurant by a business friend of mine and I was pleasantly surprised at their food! The main thing that I liked was the freshness of their lunch offerings. Since then, I've been their at least two more times and introduce this location to my business associates also. their staff was very friendly, professional and on standby ready to be of assistance. The location which is on a convenient street is easy to find and once inside, their décor is both attractive and well done with very nice pictures. The cost of lunch is very reasonable too.
Though I've never been there for dinner but will definitely be a place I will be happy to go.
Lastly, I will recommend this restaurant to any one looking for a nice and reasonable place for lunch or dinner right here in the District and close to Union Station.
We had a gift certificate that was won at a raffle...excited to come, but disappointed. First ordered appetizers, they were out of the one. Ordered steak with green bean, came out with broccoli because they were out of green beans. If I would've had to pay for it, I would have been angry. We also had a certificate for breakfast the next day. I ordered an omelet, 10 minutes later my husband also ordered one. His came, but mine never did. We had to ask about it. Nothing special.
There was a buffet, but we ordered off the menu. It took a little while longer than expected for the food to arrive. The service was a bit slow, and the room was very noisy for the amount of people. I reserved a table for 3, and we ended up with 2 small, round table pushed together.
We were looking for a spot in NoMa to meet our daughter and her boyfriend who live on Capitol Hill. We were bringing my 88 year old mother so needed a place that was easy to access and that would cater to someone who wants everything "on the side" and needs to know exactly how it's prepared. Our waiter was fabulous and really took care of Mom - she was extremely happy with her Salmon. The crab cake, though small, was very good; the Catfish dish was hearty and large. All of the dishes were either very good or excellent. For a "hotel" restaurant, this is located in the Hilton Garden Inn, it was very, very good.
We had to sit in bar area because the dining area was actually closed.
Our food was excellent. I had the seared tuna salad which was outstanding. I recommend it to everyone.
Although we hadn't been here before we wanted to try a Todd Grey restaurant and this was conveniently close to Union Station. The food was great - fine crab cakes, chicken and pancakes instead of waffles and gumbo with oysters. Weird thing though - the restaurant was empty on Thanksgiving weekend. Hope they do better, much better, on other days.
I work a few blocks from Todd Gray's Watershed and have gone there several times for lunch. If you get the buffet, be sure to get everything you need from your waitress before telling her that, because she is likely to disappear completely. I had to ask three people before I got order an iced tea.
Although the Barbeque Shrimp wasn't quite as good as usual this time, we still enjoyed our luncheon and the food selections. Menu is somewhat limited, but waitstaff were pleasant and timely. Great lunch spot for workforce in the area.

Excellent Food but you really feel like you are eating in a hotel restaurant not in the restaurant of a famous chef.. interior is boring hotel decor. The outside deck is wonderful if you hit DC on one of those rare perfect days. The food however reminds you why you booked the table.
I really enjoyed my lunchtime dining experience. We were seated outside and the terrace was very nice. The food was good, but the menu was a bit too limited. Nonetheless, I would dine there again and would recommend it to a friend.
The food was excellent but the server couldn't answer questions about the food accurately. She was very pleasant but her English skills were lacking. I asked if the corn succotash had lima beans and she said there were beans in the succotash. I asked again if it had lima beans she again said yes. My wife ordered the meal and turned out there were no beans, lima or otherwise, in the succotash. My wife order a glass of kava and a glass of red wine was brought to the table. We ordered fried oysters and received grilled zuchini. All problems were corrected, but the management needs to work on having better trained staff who can reliably answer simple questions and place orders accurately.
The first time i went here was with my cousin. We had the gilt city deal and honestly throughly enjoyed ourselves. The restaurant does $12 mimosas/brunch cocktails and the deal we had covered a shared appetizer, an entree per person, and mimosas. When we first went, we were able to have mimosas or brunch cocktails. The second time we had the same deal but only got mimosas.
On top of that, the food the second time around was a little lackluster. They don't have a wide selection of brunch options and the menu is a little small, especially because two of the menu options for an entree are a salad and a hamburger. I'd like to see a little more variety in the menu so that if one does come back they aren't stuck getting the same things.
The side of bacon was a little pricey($5 for 3 pieces) but well worth it considering it was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and absolutely delicious. I'm not sure what happened with the mimosas though. They have rotating flavors and i'm normally a fan of mimosas that aren't the typical orange juice and with flavors such as peach, blackberry, and watermelon, you'd think they'd be good. Nope...not at all. I don't know if it's the champagne they are using or the mixers but the flavor combinations did not work. The drinks were very dry, didn't have a good mix of fruit purees or juices and just fell flat. I had to resort to the traditional mimosa and even that wasn't great.
The other thing is that when it comes to food allergies they are very indifferent. Both times I've been here i've explicitly stated I had a parsley allergy and without fail each time i've been they've given me food with parsley...taken it back... and brought me a new plate with food...only for me to still have an allergic reaction because they used the same plate. Doesn't make for a fun brunch.
So all in all...for the deal that we got it was ok but i'm not sure i'd trek all the way out here when there are other more reliable and delicious place closer to the city.

Took my wife here for Mother's Day brunch this past Sunday. Weather was nice, so we opted to sit outside on the patio. I was originally leery about going to a hotel restaurant for a special occasion brunch, especially since there's so many brunch options in/around NoMa. The staff was pleasant, although there was a slight mishap when the waitress brought out first round of bottomless mimosa's/bloody Mary's breaking a glass and splattering watermelon mimosa on me. Pleasant day not to be spoiled by an accident; did find it odd that the manager helped her clean but never addressed me with any type of apology or anything. Either way, watermelon mimosa's weren't as sweet as had hoped, but with all brunch cocktails the same price it was swapped out on the next round for something more enjoyable. The food took longer than what was expected especially when we noticed a couple of tables sit after us, get served/eat, pay for their meal and leave before our food arrived. But again being a special occasion our spirits were high and enjoying each others company. It wasn't busy at all so our kids were able to have some space to move around without disrupting restaurant operations. Overall we enjoyed our experience, the food and drinks were good and my wife left with a smile on her face as they gave her a rose for Mother's Day (nice touch).
Good to try a local spot, but more of a one time deal just to say you've been.
The place lived up to its reputation via YELP and overall was satisfactory. However I thought the prices for mid day meal were way more than I wanted to pay. Crabcake sandwich was $16, contained only one crabcake with housemade chips and a small dab of cole slaw (on top of the crabcake). My partner had the shrimp mac n cheese which was very good but also overpriced. In a neighborhood filled with sandwich shops one would think you would compete by offering some inexpensive lunch specials.
Overall the restaurant is good. Their lunch buffet is a good option with offerings of various meats, veggies, etc. However, if you are a vegan, your menu selection is very limited. My friend who is vegan ordered the multigrain sandwich without the cheese and I ordered the same with the cheese. The sandwich was nothing special, it was season well but it was basically salad between 2 slices of toasted multi-grain bread. The side quinoa and greens lacked flavor and not just salt. If you are going to offer a veggie kind of sandwich, put roasted vegetables, portabella or something that is beyond seasoned baby spinach. And the cheese was a thick wedge slice of brie. Again, nothing special or spectacular.
My assigned server was uninterested and apathetic about my dining experience. I had to ask to place an order, only was offered a refill of my beverage after asking for my check, and was not thanked or asked about my experience at all. I do feel that this was unique to my server, for the server assigned to the table near mine appeared quite the opposite.
We were staying at the Hilton Garden Inn in the newly gentrified neighborhood of NoMa, just under a mile from Union Station in Washington, DC.. We were meeting cousins for dinner and made a reservation at the restaurant in the hotel, which is how we found ourselves at Todd Gray's Watershed. We enjoyed our reunion with the cousins, but none of us liked the food very much. The tuna, billed on the menu as "seared," was very overcooked, and the salad itself wasn't nicely balanced, with too much kale and pickled onion and too little dressing. I had ordered it without avocado, but it came with the avocado in it anyway. My husband and his cousin ordered crab cakes, which came without remoulade, though when they succeeded in flagging down a waiter, he cheerfully provided some. The restaurant is also the venue for the hotel breakfast, but the buffet there was probably the least appetizing morning meal I have had in any of the literally hundreds of Hilton brand hotels I have stayed at over the years. I don't recommend making Todd Gray's Watershed anyone's choice for dinner or breakfast in DC.
I stay in this hotel a few times a year for business and have eaten on the patio before. This time we ate in the bar and again were a little surprised by the menu and selections for this place, good food at what I consider good DC prices.
For a hotel restaurant, it wasn't bad. I had the breakfast buffet, so I can't really comment on the overall quality of the food. The service, however, was quite good. The staff was both attentive and friendly.
On a recommendation from a friend, I tried Watershed for lunch, as it is close to my office and a bit different for what I often have at lunch. I am sure many people come for the reasonably (DC) priced and varied buffet, but because of the items that day, I opted for a burger, which I asked to be prepared rare, and with no mayo. "No problem," they promised. The first attempt came out dry and a perfect well done, slathered in mayo, and the server seemed perplexed that I wanted to send it back. A person who indicated they were a manager came by, and I explained the issues. Although he nodded in recognition of what I said, another burger soon appeared, this time cooked properly (hooray), but again covered in mayo; even more than the first time. Now annoyed, I asked for the manager, and a different person came by. After I explained the prior two orders, the third time was the charm, and the sandwich was good.
Curiously, for a place of this seeming class, they made no offer to do anything whatsoever for my trouble, which I thought was odd. Perhaps I will try them again for a buffet, but for now, I am a disappointed customer.
Being housed within a hotel, my expectations were low. However, we were surprised by the excellence of the unique menu, food quality, and staff. In this newly developed neighborhood, there is a need for high quality dining options. Watershed meets that need and would be successful anywhere.
We went here due to the lack of good restaurants in the area. Food was just okay - not bad, not good - just meh. The service was the real problem. There were very few people in the restaurant at the time, so I really don't understand what the problem was. It took forever - FOREVER - to receive anything. Had to wait forever for the appetizer, then another forever for the entrees. Will not be back. What was the problem? Was there one person cooking and waiting tables at the same time?
I'm not so sure I’m a fan of the cold food on the lunch buffet. The food was also not completely put out when the restaurant opened. The seating and ambiance was great...and the hot food is excellent. The waitress didn’t come around much which was a put off...but it didn’t cloud the experience.
As hotel restaurants go, I like Todd's. The menu is simple, the prices are ok and the service is good. I had the rib and grits. Very good. My only issue is that the ice cream selection is limited to vanilla and chocolate. For a restaurant that portrays itself as edgy, that is pretty bland. My friends had the chicken. Both were pleased with it. Decent chicken portion and lots of veggies.
Also, watch out for the bar noise. The bar, next to the restaurant, has a vibrant happy hour crowd. Until 630 or 7p, do not expect to have a conversation in the restaurant.
We really liked the food--we split the crab dip appetizer, we had a great pan seared rockfish and the shrimp for entrees. Waitress couldn't explain the menu, was rarely around, never inquired about our meals
I went to Todd Gray's Watershed for Restaurant Week the summer of 2014. There was one dish that stands out in my mind: the chocolate bourbon pecan pie. It was extravagant, decadent, and delicious. That is all.
I would recommend this retauran to anyone that enjoys a change of pace. The food is really good (best BBQ shrimp & grits I've ever had) and the cheesecake and bread pudding are to die for! Try it for yourself!!!
The bread always comes out very slow, but the entrees are tasty.
I booked my best friends Bachelorette party dinner here and the wine list didn't have miscotto, the sodas were 3 bucks, so we all ended up just drinking water. Then when we looked at the very tiny dinner menu we realized the bar menu was different but you had to be at the bar for that one. So after looking at the dinner menu we all ordered the shrimp mac n cheese which was very oily and huge, like it could feed two people. Then the waiter was MIA the whole time and not very informative or friendly he pretty much just took the orders, brought the food, and took the money. All in all I would never go back
I often need to schedule lunch meetings in NoMa, and get stuck at the same old spots - Au Bon Pain, Roti, etc. Finding a place that's not fast food / fast casual there has always been a challenge... so I was glad to find Todd Gray's. Opentable was the 1st time I'd heard of it, and finding it physically seemed like coming upon a secret, too. There was nothing street level to indicate the restaurant was there, and had I not known it was in the Hilton Garden Inn, I'd have missed it altogether. Menu was limited, and buffet was almost ridiculously sparse. My crabcake sandwich, however, was tasty, and others raved about the fries. The bourbon desert was great. Decor and service was what you'd expect from a hotel lunch spot - meh at best.
Not very busy the night we were there. Nevertheless service was less than stellar. Lots of kids from hotel running around. Aggravating. Most of the food was just ok. I will say that we had a lovely chicken dish. Saved the dining experience.

Welllllllll. This restaurant is connected to a hotel...and it feels like it. It was like dining in the cheesy hotel bar, decor and all. The food was ok at best. It was late but they didn't serve the food as advertised. The Caramelized Brussel Sprouts were simply boiled (blech) and lightly salted. I can do that at home. The the salmon and celery purée were a little bland. And lastly, the gumbo. Smh. "How does one mess that up?", you ask. By scorching the roux. It was edible...or I should just say I ate it. Sighhhhh.
Wonderful food in rather strange place, a Hilton Garden Inn that is difficult to get to because of construction and torn up and one-way streets. Worth the effort however, We went early for a pre-theatre dinner and were the only customers. Because of that, service could have been a bit more attentive and we should not have had to ask for the bill twice. But food was of the quality one has come to expect from Todd Gray.
As a cardinal rule, if you put your name in the title, then it is fair to assume that it will be same caliber as your other restaurants. This visit was very disappointing. The beans were undercooked, fish was boring, there was nothing about the food that was regional or interesting. On the service front, our server came to our table after 10 minutes and asked if anyone had waited on us and then it was downhill from there. Overall, I was embarrassed that I selected the restaurant for a business dinner.
