About Water's Edge
The incredible view of the Manhattan skyline from Water's Edge creates a dramatic backdrop for this classic American white-tablecloth restaurant. From raw oysters to thick slabs of steak, Water's Edge is a true carnivore's delight and its location on the East River cannot be beat.
Leisurely sip a glass of wine in the Water's Edge's cozy piano lounge while you snack on appetizers like calamari or fresh burrata cheese. The restaurant's pan-seared Chilean sea bass with a red wine Worcestershire glaze is a definite highlight, as is the restaurant's thick and juicy filet mignon. The lobster mac and cheese and onion ring tower are fun sides. Water's Edge recommends making a reservation.

Water's Edge Ratings and Reviews
I booked a table here for my boyfriend's 30th birthday a week beforehand only for the restaurant to cancel with less than 24 hours notice saying it was closing for refurbishment! Surely they would've known that when I booked the table 6 days before that so why take the booking?! All the nice restaurants that we then tried to book into were full so we ended up not eating out! Thanks for ruining what was meant to be a special day!
We payed 401 USD (4 people, starter & main course only, 1 bottle of wine) for a scenic view but food only woth 80 USD!
The clamps were ok, the gravalacs was minimalistic and had no taste, the boullabaise (?) had nothing to do with a boullabaise, but was a mix of left-overs in a thick sause. The solle meuniere was overcooked and had no taste. The rib-eye steak was ok but expensive (42 USD!)
I had trouble paying with VISA as the owner pushe dme to pay cash (machine does not work, etc.). Never again!
This place is catagorized as a "has been". Needs to go on Restaurant redo reality show. This was a premier restaurant long ago, in need of face lift, revamping of menu and wait staff. Hostess unaware of access to outdoor deck, dressed shabbily. Waiter brushed crumbs off table and threw on the floor. Skirt steak was miniscule and lacked taste $30 for that plus $16 for sides. I do not need quantity, a quality morsel is worth its' cost. This was downright terrible. Calamari was rubbery. Even the bread had a stale frozen taste. So sad
I planned this dinner for my daughter who was turning 16! She loves NYC and loves to take photos! Everything was fantastic...the food, the waiter, the atmosphere. I just wish the huge cranes weren't in the way of the fabulous view! Bad timing but I understand couldn't be helped!
1st time here in this restaurant on 10/13/15. Food was ok, not bad, I gave 4 stars for food. We had Long Island Duck, and Rib Eye steak, appetizer is Tuna Tatar. Service was good, but I think a bit too much to check back to customers. We got at least 7 times interruption to ask from severs about "is everything all right ? ,, is everything ok?,, ....." I totally understand they want to make sure we had a good time,, BUT IT IS TOO MUCH. Let customers enjoy their food, and atmosphere. The atmosphere of Manhattan view is fabulous, but they closed the seating outside. We will be back when they open the seating outside. 4 stars for them.
Waters Edge, has lost it's "edge" I was very disappointed with the quality of food. I started with the calamari which was fresh and quite good. But the meal went south from there. My guest had the Chilean Sea Bass which was heavy with salt. I had the Duck which wasn't bad, but far from good. For desert, we shared a Creme Brulee. It was watery and barely filled the dish.
This was not my first time at WE, I came to love it for its ambiance, and scenery, and for that I am still an admirer. But the quality of the food has dropped drastically. I am almost positive that they changed their chef.
The service was impeccable. I'm sorry that I didn't get our waiters name. He was very gracious and professional.
The entire restaurant seems to have lost it's flair. Even the outside of the building needs repairing and a spruce-up. I hope the owners read this revue and do something. I would hate for such a lovely restaurant, in a lovely spot, to go the way of the dinosaur.
Overall, it was not a bad experience, I just came to expect more from WE. I will give it another chance. Every business has a down-day, and maybe this was theirs.
It was a rainy Friday evening. The restaurant was not crowded, but there was a special event (wedding party?) going on in the dining room. The party group was loud and distracting to our meal. Of course, such a party will not happen every Friday night. Also, the view of Manhattan was obstructed by construction equipment. This, too, will not be a permanent part of the Water's Edge experience. The food was good (not great). The service was good (not great). Getting to the restaurant on public transportation may include a significant walk, depending on your choice.
It took the waitress a good 30 minutes to come over and ask us for our orders. When she came, she told us that the restaurant was out of steak, lobster and chicken (literally two-thirds of the menu). 40 minutes after we ordered our food, she came over and told us that she had forgotten to enter our orders. The food itself was average and wasn't worth the high price tag.
They ran out most menu items before 9pm on a Sat! The credit card machine was down or better yet glitchy according to the manager. We left, the service was deplorable. It's a pricey restaurant if you want to get your money's worth you should find another restaurant. The views were pretty cool though!
My experience with Waters Edge is not very good this time. I was waiting in the bar for my friends to arrive for 20 min and no one told me that the credit card machine doesn't work, I couldn't ran out or call my friends to pick up cash on there way. End up we had to combine all cash we have in our pocket, good thing we had enough money.
We did not get service until numerous attempts we try. I had to repeatedly ask for my cup of water 3 times before I get my water.
We ordered a bottle of wine with three glasses. The waiter empty out the entire bottle at once, everyone got a huge glass rather than wait and pour the right amount on the glasses.
We ordered sea bass, the portion was way too small for the price.
Mushrooms were very salty.
Lambs were over cooked.
Coffee machines don't work.
We had to get the waiter and his helper attention when we need something, they don't come to check on us.
Our bill came to $400, we left a very nice tip even we did not get the right service.
Service and food were much better the last time I went. Don't know why it's so,bad this, time.
I don't think I would recommend to my friends.
The only thing good about the Waters Edge is the stunning view of Manhattan. The restaurant was not crowded but it took 10 minutes to order a drink. After that the waiter became a bit more attentive.
We ordered tuna tartare and the lobster bisque as appetizers, lamb chop rack & swordfish (recommended by the staff) only because they were out of the scallops & salmon. We asked for bread or crackers for the tuna tartare. We were told they ran out of bread & there were no crackers. The lobster bisque tasted like tomato soup.
The lamb chops (medium) were tough. The sides that came with it were forgettable. The swordfish was the smallest piece I have ever seen. Also very salty.
Dessert.......ah if only we could have ordered what we wanted. They were out of the cheesecake(they offer 2 kinds) and couldn't get an espresso or cappuccino because the machine was broken.
When we asked how come they were out of so many things our server said they had recently had a change in management?????
Needless to say, we will not be returning.
Not my first time there closer to the 30 over the years. As good as ever! The view is worth a million dollars with the East River rushing by and the New York skyline at sunset in the background. Did I mention the delicious food and great wine that accompanies the picture. Great for all occasions! You know the service is good when you recognize the waiter and you haven't been there for awhile.
Had a great dinner, as always. Tried the skirt steak which was delicious. Always order and love the crab cake and mac and cheese w lobster. Also had Chilean sea bass which was good. Service was a bit off. Our servers were very lovely but I think the restaurant was understaffed. Had to wait quite a bit for a drink order to be taken and for the check to be prepared. Will certainly return because it is a favorite place.
This restaurant is practically in the River. I felt a little like I was on a boat. I ate on the outside deck on a quiet night. It's a beautiful view of the city and the food was delicious. The service was slow, especially for a quiet night. There were only a few other tables outside and only a handful inside.
The skirt steak was much bigger than i thought it would be. I shared an appetizer and didn't order a side and I was full when I left. My friend ordered the scallops and said they were much too salty and she had a pretty small portion. The Burrata is amazing! I just wish they served it with plain balsamic instead of the incredibly sweet reduction that comes with it.
One note on being outside: The waves can hit pretty hard so be careful when sitting right near the edge. We had to hold our glasses any time a mid-size wave would hit under us. It seemed to be calmer closer to the restaurant windows.
I came here for an anniversary dinner with my boyfriend after several years of wanting to visit. It was restaurant week, so we participated in the RW menu. First, our waiter dropped bread all over the floor. We both ordered the lobster bisque, which was tasteless. When our filets came, they had no sides (which were supposed to be mushrooms & potatoes), and my boyfriend's "medium-rare" steak was charred to hockey-puck-like status. We notified our waiter, who informed us that our meals were meant for the table next to us, and gave us each a drink on the house for the error, but removed our previous glasses before we were finished with our drinks (a fatal mistake, always). When our actual meals came, my filet was so small it was basically gone in 3 bites, and was cooked to be well-done instead of my requested medium-rare. I was too tired and hungry at this point to send it back again. For a restaurant with prices (and a claim to service) like water's edge, this is really unacceptable. The view is gorgeous, but won't be returning until they step up their game.
The food was not as good as usual...my friend had calimar, I think, and it was rubbery. He paid more for oysters, and they were not right either...his spinach and my broccli rabe were impossible to chew...my chicken, however, was very tasty. My friend's steak was tough, but my other friend enjoyed her fish. For dessert, we all had creme brulee, and under the hard surface, the contents were soft and runny. That is not the way this dish should be. I don't like to complain, but I think it is best that the staff know this....in the past, all has been excellent, so, we will most likely try again.
