Water's Edge Resort & Spa Ratings and Reviews
Service was terrible and it was only my party of 3 and one other part of 2. How difficult can 2 small parties be to manage. Apparently it was very difficult as we had to ask for more water and drinks multiple times. Food was okay but was not worth the long wait or poor service. Used to dine her often when I lived in the area 6-7 years ago and it was great. However the place always changes chefs the current Italian fare menu is underwhelming.
We have been coming here for our Anniversary for the last 13 yrs and it does not disappoint. The staff is friendly and attentive. Our waiter Michael is the BEST...we met him on our honeymoon and instantly liked him. He is warm, engaging and personable, no wonder he has been there 21 yrs....We will be back for #14 and look forward to seeing Michael and the staff at Waters Edge
The place was very lovely, I have been here before, I really enjoyed coming in to the Water's Edge when I am in Old Saybrook for the Summer but went over the labor day weekend and I was not impressed with the food. I will go back again and I hope that they have a new chef that can represent this lovely place.
For our anniversary my Wife and I dined at Dattilo at Water's Edge. We arrived at 7:50pm for an 8:00 reservation and were greeted warmly and promptly seated. By 8:05 we had ordered an appetizer of raw oysters, a bottle of champagne, and our entrees. Although our server was very polite and professional, the service was indeed slow. It took twenty minutes to receive our champagne, 30 minutes to receive our appetizer and our entrees didn't arrive until 9:10, more than an hour after we had ordered. Aside from taking so long, our entrees ranged from mediocre to horrible. My wife ordered the pan seared shrimp over a risotto with asparagus. Her dish was very bland and while not terrible, left a lot to be desired. I ordered the NY Strip with red potatoes and an arugula salad. As a steak lover, I can honestly say that this was the worst piece of steak I have ever eaten. It was slightly under-cooked, which normally I don't mind because I usually order "medium", but it had absolutely no flavor. When I say it had no flavor I mean absolutely no flavor, I couldn't even tell I was eating beef. The potatoes were exactly the same, overcooked to the point that all essence of the potato had been cooked out, and they were flavorless balls of cardboard. Overall it was a huge disappointment. For spending close to $200 for a dinner, I expected the food to at least be "good". The $12 sirloin I had at Denny's that same day for lunch made Dattilo pale in comparison, something I still can't wrap my head around. Needless to say I will not be going back, nor would I recommend this restaurant.
Wife and I went there (Datillo) for our 25th wedding anniversary while on vacation. We were told it might be "hit or miss" but it was a big hit for us. First, we were given a prime window table with a spectacular view of the water and grounds - great start. Second, our waiter (Diego- who also works at Routier) was very friendly, helpful and professional. Third, food was excellent. I had the veal and she had a seafood/sausage combo which the cook forgot to include the sausage, delicious nonetheless. The restaurant did make it up to us and didn't charge us for dessert- nice touch. All in all, we had a wonderful anniversary dinner while enjoying scenic views of the water and being waited on with great service. A great experience! We would return anytime!
Service was okay...not much energy or enthusiasm. Ordered a medium steak that arrived charred and well done...wayyy over cooked. They gave me a new meal, but my husband was already long done with his dinner by the time it arrived. DIdn't offer discount or free drink or anything. Restaurant is in a great spot...could train the staff a little more in customer service. We found this at the outside bar as well... it won't stop us from going back though. Our overall trip to Water's Edge was a lot of fun. We visit Ocean House in RI once a year. Water's Edge was a more relaxed and less refined experience, though our dinner price tag was very similar.
We have been here twice for Brunch. The food was delish, specially the prime beef, tender and juicy. The selection of foods is adequate and the service was very good. We had the best sit in the house, overlooking the sea, just awesome. The price is pretty steep, there is only so much that one can eat. Registration was a bit disorganized.
Service was bad. Had to wait a ridiculous amount of time for entree . Claimed mix up in kitchen. Thought they might have compensated with dessert or something but apparently not important to them. Waitress Emily was new and did her best but restaurant should have been more concerned with their lack of service.
Food was awful. Each of us had something diff from menu and all bad.
The " special" of the night was chicken cutlet parmigiana which we thought was not worthy of the place. You would think a pizza restaurant staple would not be a special for the night at a restaurant that's supposed to be finer dining.
Risotto was tasteless, steak dry and boring and pasta bolognese tasted like it was out of a can. Not even edible.
The pomegranate martinis were delicious and drinks came out quick.
Took 3 request and 20 minutes for bread. Butter took another 10.
Won't go back. It's a shame, resort is beautiful but they can't get it together with the restaurant.
While the acoustics make for a loud environment when busy, the food is totally worth it. Thoroughly enjoyed both dinner and Sunday brunch. Wait staff is friendly and helpful. Clam chowder was very good to this NE chowder fan. Menu is not extensive, but there is something there that will appeal to everyone. All ingredients were exceptionally fresh. The view of the resort, shore and LI Sound is lovely.
Definitely will return. Tip- if you have to choose between dinner and brunch, pick brunch. And bring your heartiest appetite. Amazing.
Had dinner on a Saturday in June at the "fine Italian" dining restaurant. I was not impressed. I was expecting much better service. We had to ask about our drinks twice. One of them was wrong and had to send back and wait. Again. It was not resort level quality or service.
It was wonderful. The server was nice however, she forgot to take our entree order until much time had passed! Good thing we had our cocktails to sip on. In addition, it took some time for the bread basket to arrive. This is why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5.
Way to busy and loud for a Saturday in early May. Our reservation, was for 8:00. There was not enough help so we had to wait at the table for a LONG time! The location is beautiful. And the food was delicious. But we will never go there again on a Saturday night!
Enjoyable lunch on a rainy day. My sister was in from out of town and wanted lobster roll, so we stopped here. Much nicer ambiance than usual clam shack, and not much more expensive. The roll was hot, stuffed with lobster and butter, and accompanied by good, hot fries. We sat at the window and looked at the water. I'm sure it's more crowded in the summer, but it was a great shoulder season choice.
