Water's Edge - Charleston
We had a great view of Shem Creek, and good service, but the food got mixed reviews. My wife enjoyed her Salmon, but I got the fried tenderloin and thought it was probably the worst meal I’ve eaten in Charleston. We may give it another try.
We have been going to WE for many years and always had a great experience. Lately not so good.
First of all one Hostess wasn’t very friendly. I had requested a table on the porch but received a table inside. Sorry but that is the way it is. Hard to predict when folks are leaving the porch. Bottom line is if you have a party greater than 4 then good luck getting a table on the inside porch. Another party walked up right before us and was seated on the porch after I had made the reservation days in advance. Also, I asked about specials for the evening. No specials. Very disappointed because this was our “go-to” place.
Not so good anymore.
Unfortunately, the restaurant did not have any peel and eat shrimp or oysters for the po-boy sandwich. The server told us it was due to the recent hurricane. Disappointed that we went to a restaurant on the water and weren’t able to get some fresh seafood. The food that we did order was very good, and the view was great.
Water's Edge is in a fabulous spot. It is great to see the river traffic while enjoying the meal. The breakfast buffet is really very good, offering a wide array of dishes. A small complaint: the service was very slow. We had to ask other waiters to call our waiter for service, cleaning up a mess I made, and then again for the bill after the meal. However, because of the location and the excellent menu, I will be back again.
Loved the food and drinks. Would have preferred outside on the deck but we did not know that we needed to request that on the reservation. Next time.
Crab cakes were burned
I had requested a table with a water view and we were seated exactly as requested. Our waitress was friendly but we did experience un-even service such as not receiving a steak knife with my steak and not seeing our waitress until half way through the meal. The shrimp scampi dish was extremely over lemon-y, the filet mignon was cooked perfectly but had way too much sweet sauce poured all over it! Our dinner was good but could have used improvement.
Wonderful as always. Lots and f activity on the creek both boats and dolphins
This has been one of our favorite restaurants for several years. Since this was a special occasion (birthdays) and we had out-of-town guests, we wanted to have a excellent meal. We were very pleased with the food and the wine. Our server was outstanding. She was attentive without being in our face. We would definitely recommend Water's Edge to our friends.
Loved this place! Nice view of the water while we enjoyed a wonderful dinner. Service was great- very attentive. We had both the seared tuna and the spinach and crab dip. Both were amazing. Our entrees were delicious as well. Will definitely go back here next time in Charleston!
Our server was slow to our needs..After dinner I ordered a slice of keylime pie...it took 20 minutes and then I had to get her attention to get our bill......if I'm spending over $120.00 I would have liked a little better service.....
We ate on the outside dining area last night and it was magical! The food was outstanding and the ambiance was ALL LOWCOUNTRY- water, shrimpboats, a gentle breeze and people laughing!!!! On our bucket list, it doesn’t get any better ❤️
This was the first time we had been there since it changed hands and we were disappointed in the food.
Great service and attentiveness, especially for group of five celebrating mother in law’s birthday. Thanks!
We had a reservation for two and were taken to a table immediately...no waiting. The view from our table was gorgeous. The food was amazing and reasonably priced when compared to similar restaurants in the area. The server was professional and efficient. Will definitely return when in the area.
Ate outside and had a wonderful experience watching the dolphins and boats while eating a fantastic dinner.
Food was really bad. 7 of us and nothing was remotely good
Water's Edge used to be where we would take out of town company for a nice dinner outside by the water. This time we were going for my mother's 88th birthday. We hadn't been there in a while and it didn't take long to be reminded why. Reservation for 4 (ended up only being 3) for 6pm on Friday. Arrived on time, dropped our party at the entrance, then spent 10 minutes finding parking. I got to the table at 6:15 and no server had yet been to there. At around 6:20, our server brought us water and we ordered 3 dinners & 1app. App arrived, burnt, at about 6:45. We asked for another. That one arrived at 7:00. The Crab and Spinach Dip was delicious... although it was better when it used to come with sliced pita bread. We asked for some bread after being told it was only served on request. The bread arrived at about 7:15 and was warm and delicious. At 7:25, more than an hour after we had placed our order, we gave up waiting for our entrees, told our server we were leaving and asked for the bill. At 7:30, while waiting for the bill, our dinners finally arrived. My mother had ordered the Baked Chicken Breast but didn't eat it, saying it was barely cooked. My wife had ordered the Shrimp Scampi...it was good, not great, but she barely ate any of it. I had ordered the Crispy Flounder, as I did almost every other time I had gone there. Instead of the flounder being drizzled with the Mango Sweet and Sour sauce, as it always had been before, it was served dry with a few small chunks of mango next to it on the plate...worst crispy flounder I've ever had. We spoke with the manager and he only charged us for our soft drinks and the Scampi...which my wife took home. Overall, this visit to Eater's Edge was a huge disappointment and one of our worst dining experiences ever. It was great that the manager comped most of the meal but I would rather have paid full price for the delicious meals we used to get here.
Terrible service & food. I was willing to give this place another chance when I heard they had new owners, however, it doesn’t seem anything has gotten any better only worse. This was our last visit to this establishment.
First time for us at Waters Edge! Lovely night to be outside! They first forgot we were out there so we had to go in and remind them , but food and drinks were wonderful and we can’t wait to go back.
The quality of the food was disappointing. Mussels were dry and over cooked.
Great food! Wide selection of dishes. (Makes it easy when you have picky eaters in your party.) right on the water! Enjoyed the environment and being able to watch boats/kayaker/paddle boarders go by and even saw some dolphins! Parking is a little tight because there’s a bunch of other places in the same vicinity but the food was definitely worth it.
Mussels wee great our server was excellent we were very happy with our lunch
DON”T do it!!!! She crab soup. COLD. Fried Seafood Platter - COLD and too much breading. Not eatable. Shrimp and Grits (they were kind enough to let me try something else) too salty to eat. Went away hungry. Wine was fine and server was very nice but he can’t feed you. Unbelievable that they can’t fry shrimp in Charleston!!!!
Food was outstanding. Steak was cooked as requested .
Grouper was very good, but my husband ordered prime rib, med/rare which came out fairly well done. Hostess not too welcoming and waitress, though nice, wasn't very available and had to ask for bread. Was nice, but for what we spent, could have been a much nicer experience.
Lobster Mac and Cheese was delicious! Enjoyed the food. Would have liked some music on the patio and my second glass of wine.
Always love the view and the atmosphere of the restaurant. Service was excellent and waitress was able to accurately describe the entrees. Relaxed atmosphere and noise level during busy time was not overwhelming. Will definitely return.
Service was great and the food was amazing
Great place, great food and service with perfect view of Shem Creek.
I always Love Water’s Edge & every year I like to come back with my family to have the Mud Pie dessert for my Birthday! Unfortunately Mud Pie wasn’t on the dessert menu anymore and they replaced it with Turtle Pie so I tried the Turtle Pie. The turtle pie was good but Not as good as the Mud Pie so I was a little disappointed!
Our waitress forgot to put in two parts of our order. She left us sitting too many times particularly at the end when we needed the check. Just miserable service. She had only two tables.
The food was reasonable and the salmon was very good.
We had an 8 pm reservation and were on time. Half the restaurant was vacant yet the receptionist insisted our table was not ready. It was ready and vacant for us as we waited for 20 minutes.
We brought our out of town guest here expecting a much better experience. For such an established restaurant, it was extremely unorganized. We all agreed as locals that we would not return. There are too many better choices.
We were visitors to the area and had several locals recommend Water’s Edge. So glad they did. The herb seared grouper, crab cake, oysters, Bloody Mary, and bread pudding were also excellent! And the nicest waiter ever— Austin!! Hopefully we can return some day!
Excellent outside seating amazing! Food and waitress Amazing. Price amazing.
We asked our server for a wine list and he said what are you looking for and we said we didn’t know he stated I know all the wines but said I’ll bring you one, never Did! brought appetizers, then disappeared for us to order dinner, we split a chicken pasta dish ,and the angel hair pasta was mushy, like it was sitting under hot lamps! Never asked us about the wine again either, just wanted to leave the restaurant. We will Not have him again! 847/909-4598 to discuss.
One of the best restaurants I’ve been in the Charleston/Mt. Pleasant area. Service was Top Notch and Food was Wonderful. Will definitely eat here again in one of my many future visits to Charleston.
Great meal, wonderful service and a lovely setting!
Great food and view
Sauce was missing from appetiser, we asked server who said she would sort it, we never saw her again. We were finishing those appetisers when the mains were brought and set down with the serving plates from the starters just left in the way on the table so we had to set them on the floor. The most expensive meal we had on holiday and not the best although the food was tasty.
