Waterleaf Restaurant - Glen Ellyn Ratings and Reviews
Student-Run dining is off to a great start.
For the first week the focus is on American Southern cooking. I would have loved a tub of the roasted corn & crawfish soup! YUM. The arugula salad was great; the lemon vinaigrette nicely complemented the arugula.
I was skeptical about the pickled okra w/ the flounder--SO good!!
And their coffee is great!
The service was pretty good for a student. And it was nice to see everyone helping each other out.
Certainly a plus to get this quality food for 1/3 it would cost in the city.
It's a beautiful restaurant.
So sad that it is only open little.
Thumbs up from me! Can't wait for the New England focus!
This was the first of this Summer's gastronomical trip around the world with COD's International Cuisine class. This menu was "Persia" with five courses. Everything tasted delicious and was served by friendly student servers. We were able to make reservations for the rest of the scheduled lunches (except for the "Korean" on July 11). They are offered every Tuesday from June 13 to July 18. We are looking forward to experience the rest of the presentations.
Always a tasty and well presented meal at Waterleaf, though sometimes portions are a bit small. Interesting to talk to the students who are serving, since they are in COD's culinary program. They are a bit novice to table service, but they are always professional.
Waterleaf never fails to deliver an outstanding meal. I recently experienced the Lebanese dinner from the international series. The meal was an incredible melding of flavors and spices accompanied by excellent wine pairings. I knew I was in for a treat as soon as I entered the building and encountered the aroma of spices wafting down the corridor. The students did an excellent job on service and in the kitchen. This beautiful restaurant is a hidden gem not to be missed.
Again, another wonderful experience at Waterleaf. Our server was so comfortable in what she was doing and answered our questions about the food and her course work, as this is a class in the culinary school. The pork tenderloin sandwich was delicious, as was the cauliflower soup and arugula/pear salad. My friends got the salmon entrée and found they should have asked that the salmon be cooked thru. After a trip to the kitchen, the salmon came out perfect. I was very impressed with the 'chocolate purse' we had for dessert. This is a pearl in the Chicago suburbs.
I go here quite often and for some reason today was not the best. I had salmon which was undercooked and the mashed potatoes were cold. The dessert was not very good either. I guess the students were having a bad day. Hopefully next time will be better. In the past the food was always delicious so I will go back.
Clean and classic ambiance. Interesting, well prepared and beautifully presented soup, salad, and entree options followed by spectacular desserts. But, the best part is engaging the students, who are responsible for everything. It is fun to chat with the students to learn about them, their aspirations, and the culinary/hospitality programs at the college. We came for two lunches last semester, and will come to try at least three of the four regional menus offered this semester. Water leaf is a wonderful experience and a fantastic value. Kudos to C.O.D. for allowing it to survive and thrive after all of the previous controversy associated the college, including the Waterleaf operation. It is also obvious that the student advisor takes great pride in the program and the development and success of his students. Make your reservations early! They fill up fast and you don't want to miss this dining experience.
The Waterleaf is a treat. The student chefs make delicious meals. And we get to try them at a very reasonable price. I like their seasonal theme. I introduced friends to this experience and they can't wait to go back. Looking forward to my next visit in March.
This is a great value & good deal if u like helping students. For a small portion of what you would be paying at other restaurants you can get a delicious meal served by enthusiastic culinary students.
The meal I had today started with a chicken sage dumpling soup. I wasn't sure what to expect. The aroma was wonderful & would eat it again.
The wedge salad was generous & perfect dressing.
The short ribs and mashed potatoes were perfect. I'm not into parsnips & squashes & red peppers. But I tried a piece of each; if u like those vegetables u would be even happier with this dish. I will say it was very colorful when brought to the table.
Looking forward to next month & a different menu.
The braised short ribs were outstanding - moist, tender and perfectly seasoned. The vegetables were tasty and had just the right amount of crunch. The chocolate mousse cake was moist and delicious. Overall presentation of the food - from the salad to the dessert - was definitely "high end". Looking forward to another lunch or dinner at this beautiful restaurant. Kudos to the chefs, staff and instructors for putting together such a pleasant and delicious dining experience.
