I was disappointed in my visit to Water Grill. Seemed like a fancy sports bar. The food was adequate but not great. My husband had fish and chips and was very disappointed in the prwparation. It took a long time to get our food and I didn’t like th dessert.

We were celebrating our friends major birthday. There were 8 of us and we were delighted with a large table in the wine room. Since some of us are hard of hearing--that was a delightful surprise.
We were at the restaurant during dineLA week. I thought the purpose of the menus is to introduce new diners (which applied to most of our group) to the quality of the restaurant. Three of us selected the same three course meal which began with clam chowder, then mahi mahi, and dessert. The clam chowder was unlike any chowder I have ever tasted. It was really not a chowder, but pure cream with two clams in their shells--and a few pieces of red pepper and celery. It was horrid. The fish was surely not fresh--I didn't ask if it was fresh because I assumed that since this is a fish restaurant, that anything not fresh would be noted. It was VERY ordinary--rather tasteless, and salty the way you would expect from frozen fish. The bread pudding that I had for dessert was super sweet. I noticed that everyone else seemed to like it, so it was a matter of personal preference.
The waiter was aware of my dislike of the food and offered to get me something else, but I felt uncomfortable because it was a large party, and I didn't want anyone to wait while I had another dish.
So, the thing that I loved about the restaurant, was the private room--not a reason to return.

Dined late after a movie. Rob's service was superb. One of the best. We chose from the dineLA menu and thoroughly enjoyed the meal.
I've been there multiple times - it's always busy, and vibrant, and is right there on the Pacific with a gorgeous view at any time of day. Food is always excellent, and so is the service.
Valet parking is the easiest choice, although you could walk from one of the municipal lots, and occasionally there's a place on the street.
Treat yourself!

We had reservations for our Anniversary and had no problem getting in. The waitress was friendly and we got a seat in the corner of the dining room; we wanted a booth but in the part we sat in there were no booths just tables and chairs. We ordered the lobster roll for $29 and a shrimp louie salad for $28; the lobster roll was smaller than we remembered it and the lobster was tough and chewy; the shrimp did not look fresh and were salty; there wasn't enough lettuce also.

I put on the reservation that it was our Anniversary but the waitress did not seem to know it; when she found out she did offer a free desert and she was very nice.

We did enjoy the experience but not enough to want to go back anytime soon. This is a very expensive restaurant for steak and seafood so bring a credit card.

We decided to make a reservation at The Water Grill because it was on the waterfront in Santa Monica. Well, we did not get a table with a view - but we had a great time being together. Our server was wonderful about explaining the special pre-fix menu. The beet salad was outstanding the salmon appetizer was not as expected (not a cold — like a tartar). The mahi mahi was okay. Some liked it more than others. The squash soup was enjoyed by a few people. Everyone enjoyed their dessert 🍮. The ice cream and bread pudding were the favorites. It was a lovely evening out and special for us because we hadn’t seen each other for 6 months.

Everything was great except for the hostesses at the door. They were incredibly rude to people and left many guests stranded at the door before even acknowledging them. I saw one couple literally get yelled at because they wanted to know how long it would take to get seated. the restaurant was more than halfway empty so there should have been no reason for the rudeness, neglect or aggression.

Great seafood and good service. Desserts were not as good as the rest of the meal

Great, but Spendy! The fish is terrific, the service is good, and the atmosphere pleasant, though a bit pricey on some items. Though I only order it occasionally, the fish and chips are quite tasty.

The Dine LA menu is an amazing opportunity to try this spectacular restaurant. A great tip is that there is no corkage charge. You have to love the Watergrill.
