Overalll it was just ok. The main course was good. I had the cowboy rib eye and the wife had the salmon. The appetizer (fried fish, shrimp, calamari, and zucchini) had to be returned due to cold calamari. They redid it and it came back without the fish. Manager took it off the bill. Then waiter asked if I wanted cake with candle to celebrate wife’s birthday. When it came out it wasn’t cake. It was a cookie with ice cream. And didn’t know he was charging for it. Overall disappointed with Birthday meal. Would not be returning.
Food came out like warm. Crab legs tasted like rubber. Overall, not a good experience.
Lovely place. Food is more aesthetic than great. Overly expensive.
Quality of seafood was good. We ordered crab and it was really fresh and cooked perfectly. We enjoyed it so much we ordered a second one.
Shame on us for taking the waitresses advice and ordering the Lobster. It came with Cole slaw and ended up being an $81.00 entree. This restaurant was ridiculously over priced. There is never a reason to pay $81.00 for anything....especially when served with Cole slaw. We won't be fooled twice and the service was not great either.
We were looking for a nice restaurant where we could celebrate our anniversary and have a good meal. The seafood options were outstanding and our server recognized our anniversary by providing a complimentary desert. It's a little noisy but not so bad to interfere with a casual conversation. The food was great, the service great and I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good seafood dinner.
My friends and I had a great time. The food was great. The service was EXCELLENT! I had the Swordfish which was excellent. Look forward to returning very soon.
2 thumbs up!
The Water Grill is quiet possibly noisier than the neighborhood dive bar on the corner, which makes it difficult to have a conversation without yelling. The only thing noisier might a group of rowdy Steelers fans in that same bar.
The up-side is great food and awesome staff, however the portions are terribly weak.
How do you justify paying a lot of money to a restaurant only to have them put you on a diet? Scallops and Cauliflower [$36] is an "entrèe" and you're served THREE medium scallops with what looked to be one chunk of cauliflower, thinly sliced into five, or six pieces.
The swordfish portion was MUCH smaller than the last time I was here.
At $109.70 for two meals, brussles sprouts, cheesecake and a cup of coffee, I couldn't be more completely disappointed. Thank God for the wait staff and quality; The only reason for my continued support of The Water Grill.
I stopped at In and Out on the way home.
As alway- tasty and wonderful.
great fresh food, good selection of shellfish
Respectful service- what else do you need?
This is probably my 5th time in the Santa Monica Water Grill. Each time has been very good. The noise level is fine, it's by the Pacific Ocean, there is a fair amount of parking in walking distance, it can get crowded as it is near 3rd Street Promenade, but no big deal.
The food has always been good. This time was a 1.25lb spiney lobster which was rather excellent.
If you like seafood, it's a good place to go.
Great service & great food!
Everything was great our waiter was amazing and very helpful the food was amazing the ambiance and place was great just wish we got a better table by the window but everything was great
Had to wait half hour for a reservation booked on open table. Beware!
Phenomenal experience. Phenomenal food. Hands down the best fish I've ever eaten. Wonderful surprise.
We haven't been to Water Grill in awhile, and were looking forward to it. It was so loud we could barely hear each other across the table. Somehow I remember the menu being totally different. Not as many options for just regular fresh fish. Everything had to be explained to us. Don't think we'll rush back since it was a 50 minute drive for us.
First time customer. LOVED the food. Fantastic lobster, sea bass was incredible, polenta, pasta and brussel sprouts all worthy accompaniments, delicious cocktails, and friendly and attentive service. I will definitely go back!!
Terrific wait staff. Friendly and you get the attention you need. The food is fantastic. Expensive but well worth it. Go and enjoy.
Young hostess needed a bit more experience in assessing customer preferences. Person seating seemed to have a great amount of intuition when seating customers.
Solid meal. Great atmosphere. Good service. Was better last time I went. Would recommend
The salted caramel bread and butter pudding is absolutely amazing you have to try it!
extremely over priced---good fish but very little value. Fish entrees from $37--$50 with nothing else on the plate------not a vegetable or garnish. Everything was "extra". Atmosphere was cold and not inviting---------physical temperature was cold--------cold evening and all of the windows on the front of the restaurant facing the ocean were open. On the reservation it asked if this was a special occasion. I indicated it was my wife's birthday. When we arrived at the table the waiter asked if it was someone's birthday---we said yes--- and then he proceeded to ignore it for the rest of the evening-------not even a candle in the dessert---or a complimentary dessert. No warmth to the restaurant or the waiter---------much to expensive for what you get. I would not be recommending this restaurant or going back.
Despite having a reservation for dinner we were seated in the bar area which is fine if you want to watch TV and drink beer.
We wanted to talk so not really conducive.
The server was nice but sporadic and didn’t bring a glass of wine until after the main course was served.
The food was both excellent and awful. Loved the butternut squash appetizer but hated the salty purée and rubbery gnocchi that came with the sea bass which was delicious. Cracked crab was fresh but lacked flavor and sauces served were meh.
Waiters seemed confused about taking away empty plates and our table was littered with crab shells.
If you are content with eating average seafood in a semi upscale room at high prices you will enjoy it.
I will not return but if I did I would definitely get the squash appetizer.
Went for bday celebration. Truly love it. Tom our server made the experience even better by turning on the Oscars for us to watch. Went back the next day for lunch!! Awesome Poke!
Delicious seafood in a wonderful environment! Fresh and well-presented food and a tasty margarita! Friendly and attentive servers as well. Not to mention the great view!
Every bite of food OUTSTANDING! Robert our waiter was Wonderful & Welcoming!
Upscale casual dining in utmost Santa Monica fashion. High quality and great service. The decor is masculine and the ambiance intriguing. Personally, I enjoyed peeking through the glass windows to see the cooks preparing our meal. Classy with a warm and fuzzy feeling!
Disappointed. Feel like it is overrated. Pretty mediocre experience
Great ambiance, best clam chowder on the east coast! It was creamy, not floury & excellent flavor. The spaghetti squash & sword fish also fantastic! I've been dining at Water grill downtown & was satisfied to see there was same high standards & quality. Service was very good.
Awesome experience! Great value for money! Best seafood place in Santa-Monica. Great wine list. Totally recommend!
This is our favorite place in Santa Monica. Always a delight. Tasty and respectful. A pleasure
We had made reservations and we arrived a little early. Initailly they told us we would be seated on time so we went to bar. We ended up waiting over 45 min for the table. My wife’s food was good but my Ciopino was cold and very little soup, very dispointing especially once we got the bill. For the money we paid almost 100 per person it should have been outstanding. Not planning on returning.
Waiter was excellent. Food was well prepared and delicious. Service by staff was also outstanding.
My wife and I went our anniversary. The food was outstanding. My wife had shrimp and grits. I had the lobster roll. The clam chowder was the best I have ever had... fresh and not too thick.
Oysters, mussels, crab cake, tuna poke, Chilean sea bass, Dover sole, mixed greens. Perfect. Cocktails on point. Service spot on. Ocean view was tranquilizing.
Lovely experience for celebrating our anniversary! Food was interesting and delicious!
Ask for fish without seasoning and it arrived with spicy seaasoning on the tuna.
Another party asked for her fish to be cooked well done. Received rare sent it back and still medium.
$12.00 to park the car! Outrageous!
The food was good but extremely overpriced! $30.00 for one little piece of fish with a few French fries. I had to pay $7.00 for a side of cole slaw! Any other restaurant I would have payed $15.00 for everything.
Always yummy and fun
