Water Grill - Santa Monica Ratings and Reviews
Our server was slow and several times had to look for him the food was ok but not worth almost 200 bucks. Overall not a place i would go back to. Was a little upset with my friend for recommending this place. The server needed to be more on top of his job and I even spoke to him about if he could check on us a bit more and it still didnt happen.
Food came out uncooked, waiter was a bit intense and overbearing, a bit too jazzed up. Quality of food not commensurate with price, they redesigned the place but couldn’t put in rest rooms? You have to leave restaurant to go to shared restroom with other businesses in the building.
The sea bass was under cooked. The cioppino was ok. 2 Very small mussels 2 very small clams not much fish 4 shrimp that were good. I was disappointed also the horse radish was really weak but the oysters very good. Shrimp Louie was a lot of ice berg lettuce and the dressing was bitter.
The Watergrill is amazing, hands down one of the better restaurants in Santa Monica. I’ve eaten there several times before and it’s always been outstanding service. The last time we went there the service wasn’t very good. We spoke to the manager the next day who gave us a gift card which we used yesterday when we were there. The general manager came over and asked about our experience this time.
This restaurant has attention to detail with outstanding food. I don’t usually write reviews but the WG is outstanding.
We had a great birthday celebration even though the service was spotty and the table location not great. Some of the food was good, though I didn’t think it was close to that of their original downtown LA locale. Very noisy, they basically sat us in the bar after I had requested a nice table to celebrate a birthday. I did love the fact we could bring a good bottle of wine and not be charged a corkage fee. So, mixed results. It is overpriced for the way it was presented and the portions were small. Our waitress was nice and helpful.
Poor management period. Had a dinner reservation for a birthday and we had to wait an hour to be seated. How do you book reservations back to back and have people wait for a table to “open up”. Absolutely horrendous experience and the worst management ever. You can’t call yourself a high end restaurant with service like this. The only thing that saved the night was Tom, our server. He was top notch.
This was my third time to the Water Grill. Each meal has been a bit worse than the previous one. I had Swordfish. It was dry and over cooked. Plus, it had a blood vein. Quite frankly, for the prices charged for the fish entrees the fish should be served well trimmed and well prepared. It’s not like the portion size is so large to begin with. The service was excellent and the restaurant is beautiful, but more needs to be paid to the food.
So happy with our experience! Took my wife here for date night, it was perfect. Dinner and two drinks each was over one hundred dollars but I knew that going in. (Just be aware) BUT in our opinion we felt that was more than reasonable! Our server was from Romania and she was fantastic, my wife was a bit chilly because we are at sunset, and the waitress brought over a knit blanket for her! The food was out of this world and the drinks were great too. But by far the service was what put it over the top. Amazing atmosphere, my wife and I left saying it was one of the best date night dinner we have ever had!
