   We made our reservation alerting the restaurant of the special occasion (birthday) and asked for a table by the window but not outside. We arrived 5 minutes early. We were promptly seated in the back corner - couldn't be further away from our request. Yet there was a table open as we had requested on the oyster bar side of the restaurant. They just completely ignored our placement request. The gentleman who sat us asked why we were there and I reiterated what had already been put in the reservation: a birthday celebration. He said oh great and that he would relay it to our server and they'd be sure to do something special for my partner. What we ordered: dozen oyster assortment, wedge salad, lobster, miso glazed collar halibut, & mac-n-cheese. The oyster assortment is always a crap shoot, but there were about half of them we liked and half that were just okay. We asked to split the wedge salad. It came cut in half on the plate, but we had to use our bread plates to share it. (Couldn't bring us other plates?) The lobster had no flavor and the miso glazed halibut was just okay. If you like a smoky mac-n-cheese this one's for you. We don't and wished it was clear that it had a smoky flavor in the description; or share what cheeses are being used. Dessert? We passed stating we were good. Is that why they completely ignored my husband's birthday? We'll never know. But as we walked out we saw other "special" birthday desserts had made their way to other tables.... WG was the place we went to the night before we got married & had hoped to make this a special occasion tradition place. It won't be. It's overrated and overpriced. And they ignore your seating requests. (This is the 4th time we've requested a certain place to sit and haven't gotten it. And who wants to be that person that walks to the table and then looks around the restaurant for a better seat.) This was our last visit to WG.

   My boyfriend and I had the oysters(our fav) and the sea bass. You can’t go wrong. Our server was so sweet and very attentive. Will always be my fav oysters spot. Will be back a million times

   We had a table for two outside with a nice view. It was getting a chilly and the waiters put two heaters on which was nice. We shared swordfish tapenade, chioppino and broccolini with a sausage. Broccollini was so-so, we did not like the sausage. Swordfish was excellent and the chioppino was very good. Our waiter Roger was very helpful.

    Thank you for an amazing experience. We arrived a bit early for our reservation, but you accommodated us and sat us right away at a beautiful table along the window with a view of the ocean and sunset. Our server, Roger, was incredible. Very attentive, explained the menu for us, offered great suggestions and was great to talk to. We felt like he went above and beyond to make sure our dinner was great. The food was as good as the other reviews promised. The bread is outstanding. Our soup was good (and they spilt it into two bowls for us which was really nice). The fish was flavorful and fresh. The drinks were good as well (and they had Booker’s Bourbon, which made me happy). We would absolutely recommend Water Grill to anyone visiting Santa Monica and if we are ever back in the area, I’m sure we will find ourselves back here again.
