Water Grill - Santa Monica
Book your next event with us
Server was humorless and absent and not particularly welcoming or engaging. Reservation honored promptly. Location is perfect for enjoying Santa Monica and the views of sunset.
It was my Dads birthday
We’ve been coming fish co restaurant since the early 80s. A go to place for special occasions & GREAT seafood. Also go to downtown branch. Our favorite getaway downtown
Main course came before we had finished entrees, no apologies or understanding of timing. Our mains then got cold while we finished entree.
Staff members were scarce until you are paying your bill!
My husband and I did a drive from San Francisco to Santa Monica for our anniversary. We loved the Grill. They reserved a table for us with a sunset view and brought us an amazing bread pudding with salted Carmel ice cream to end our meal
We love seafood!!! So many choices for dinner. Everything was delicious and our waitress was fantastic Can’t miss having a meal here
Everything that we had hoped it would be - from the Mimosa and Oyster Combo plate, to the delicious Soft Shell crabs to the glorious maple cheesecake dessert.
Can't wait to return.
Great oyster selection. Server made great recommendations.
We were entertaining out of town guests. They really liked our choice of restaurant and its proximity to Santa Monica Pier and Venice Muscle Beach. They loved the seafood dishes. We’ go there again next time.
Great chilled seafood towers with beautiful ocean views.
The food was so salty that we couldn’t eat it
I had a wonderful birthday celebration!
Food and service good. It was very noisy.
FABULOUS halibut. The best halibut fish we have ever eaten, any where. Love that you have 5 different options on the menu but the Best was the halibut collar. Delicious.
Took care my friends from Japan.
Thank you for letting us seat close by Window.
Everyone enjoyed and happy.
I really appreciate their nice work.
And our server Erica was very friendly and nice.
I love this restaurant .
Very loud, over-priced tourist restaurant. Period.
Food is mediocre, for example COLD oysters Rockefeller. Everything was bland and unenjoyable.
We were in the mood for great fish. Water grill in so consistently great. There is no corkage and that is always a plus.
Very different seafood Restaurant from the typical norm. A must. Live unique Dungeness Crab in a tank. Incredible!
A large variety of Wild fresh live daily not seen in any seafood restaurant.
Fresh live east and west coast oysters,
Mussels are a must! Rate at 4 to 5 star.
Congratulations to Water Grill and keep up your trusted abilities!
I have been there twice. Food is great, both in terms of the quality of the ingredients and the precision of the cooking. Every piece of fish was cooked perfectly and the oysters tasted like they just came out of the ocean. Service was warm but not intrusive although it’s a busy restaurant with a lot of activities all around.
Oops. They forgot its was our 37th wedding anniversary we were celebrating. And it even was noted by the hostess afterward! Ridiculous wait for a booth. Had to go up and ask hostess if we could have the booth that was sitting empty. Yikes!food was otherwise delicious.
We had to push back our reservation about 15 minutes. Were told we had to wait about 10 minutes when we arrived, no problem. About 20 minutes later, we approached to ask how much longer and they looked confused and seated us right away. So it appeared they forgot about us. Not great. Waitress gave us a lot of time to chat but at times was much too long.
Lastly, although the menu appears impressive and delicious, the food is incredibly bland. Like the most flavorful thing was the roll at the beginning of dinner. Not worth the price.
The best oysters in town. Great selection! Plus free corkage!!!
Water Grill is always spot on with their seafood. My only request would be a larger oyster selection. They also have a nicely curated selection of wines by the glass, rather than the tired old standards you see at most restaurants. We requested an ocean view for a party of 10, and got it. Our out of town guests were delighted to be able to dine and watch the ocean in a nice, cool ocean front restaurant. Our server was on point, and delightful.
Fabulous views, fresh seafood, and the best service in Santa Monica. Thank you Waterfront Grill for a great date with my lovely wife.
Great views and setting. Our waiter was great with recommendations. food was delicious - platter with oysters, shrimp and crab nuggets; grilled octopus had a great smoked tomato sauce, sea bass was light yummy and huge halibut collar. Cocktail were really solid. Will be back for sure.
Nice spot, had to wait a while even with a reservation. Food cost to high.
Was a Saturday night and was busy and noisy. Not the restaurant’s fault. The food was very good. Santa Monica has become a foodie heaven and this place held its own. Actually had halibut cheeks. Have caught and eaten our own, but never have I seen them on a menu before. Would go again, but at an earlier time.
Excellent experience coming back to Watergrill. However, service was a little off this time around. Serving the main course while we were still enjoying the seafood tower appetizer, was really weird ! At a top restaurant like this, they should get everything right. That was a real faux pas.
Great seafood and a glass of Chardonnay to end a hectic week. Service was attentive, with just the right timing.
The service was excellent. They took care of us with great enthusiasm and charm.
The food is always pretty good, and the ambiance and service are quite nice. On the downside is that it tends to be fairly spendy for what you get. That said, The Watergrill is in a very popular area for tourists and this allows for them to keep their prices on the high side.
Food and service are always outstanding. Innovative preparations on a very wide array of seafood, as well as items for "non-fish" diners.
Dan was great, patient and attentive to all our needs
I specifically booked a reservation to hold a certain area of tables. And to my dismay, I was completely humiliated and seated in a far location from what I originally suggested. This was a special Birthday. And we drove 40 miles to come here, only to be seated in an undesirable area!!! I’m completely irate, and I will Be yelping this experience and sending the general manager a letter. The areas that were taken, were by tourists in beach clothing. They are not your regular customers, like I am. And I am so upset I could cry about this...
Restaurant super crowded. Feels like a chain. Friend ordered scallops and they were cold. We shared Chilean sea bass. Wasn’t much warmer. Skimpy portions and expensive. Won’t go back.
It was all-around a great experience. We had pan sautéed Chilean sea bass. One of the best pieces of fish I’ve had. great service, and good wine list.
Raw bar good. Overall, food and drinks good. It's always busy and loud. A little pricey, but that's to be expected.
Always consistently good food. My favourite Fish & Chips. Dover Sole very good. Raw bar etc., very fresh. service exceptionally good. Highly recommend.
Always delicious and special. Appreciated the special preparation of one of the dishes to our preference.
Perfect place to have a great seafood
