Water Grill - Santa Monica

very fresh ouster with good wine in the good place
The oyster selection is very good. The wine by the glass selections good as well, and moderately priced. Sitting by the window is lovely, and that's why I dine here. While the service is great, most of the food options (and I've tried a fair number over time) are unexceptional, certainly for their cost. If you know what you're doing, you can have a nice experience here.
Great food and service
Great Service- We asked for a seat near the window to see the sunset and they accommodated us. The waiter was very professional and gave us great recommendations. We had the Sea Bass and the Swordfish and both melted in our mouths. Great Food, Great Service...a little pricey but well-worth it on a date night.
I had chosen the Water Grill to celebrate my daughters birthday with the family because it looked very classy in your pictures and was located on Ocean Avenue with a view of the sunset. The tables for two near the windows were great but since there were six of us we had to sit on the side with no window view except for maybe one person. The food was great and so was the service but the atmosphere was more like a sports bar than high end restaurant. Not what I had hoped for but maybe fine if that’s what you expect. The place was also way noisier than we had anticipated. Not our kind of place but great for a date.
Great restaurant and good food!!
It was our first time in Santa Monica and also my husbands bday. We had a great meal the service was super nice and got to sit right along the window with a nice view
Our dinner was wonderful. Chip was our server - he was friendly, and knowledgeable and we appreciated his suggestions. Tried the spiny lobster and glad we did!
Best seafood in LA
I was in Santa Monica visiting from Chicago this last week, a party of 9 including myself couldn't get a reservation at another nearby seafood restaurant because they "don't book parties over 5 because they have had trouble with large parties..." I ended up finding Water Grill, read the reviews and booked our party with no issue. We had 1 incredible server named Dan, who made sure everyone had everything they needed at any given point during the night. The food was incredible!! From the warm bread served the minute you sit, to enormous lobster I got, to the decadent desserts we all shared! We couldn't believe the affordability for all that we got! We did bring 2 bottles of wine with so that helped, but still! We paid about $100 per person with gratuity and found that extremely well priced for such a fancy dinner!
Food and service were on point! Just the right amount of balance between polish and convo from the server. Sat in the window at sunset and enjoyed chilled seafood to start and then King crab legs and fresh whole Black Sea Bass. Sides were killer too with the squash over the pistachio and mint couscous(or similar grain) stealing the show. No booze and dinner came in around 250 before tip with dessert, coffee, bottle water and no holding back when selecting food. Very happy with value, I have paid more for less! I also worked in the industry for decades and very rarely through around compliments like this.
thoroughly enjoyed the sea bass and swordfish. good service but like most other restaurants, we seemed to be in and out all too quickly
I'm from Louisiana...worst shrimp and grits ever. Guy with me had a burger that was excellent.
If you love seafood Water Grill had be best raw bar in town and the best fish. They have HALIBUT CHEEKS! One of my favorites. I love sitting by the window and looking out over the Pacific with a nice lunch and a glass or Rose. Great place to take friends from out of town. One of my favorite restaurants but a bit of splurge. The service is professional which is saying a lot. Don't forget to get your parking ticket stamped. Valet is expensive.
Touristy Spot with rushed service only trying to turn tables and the mouthiest waitress I’ve ever experienced. A shame since the food is actually good.
The lobster was a bit over done and chewy and most of the mussels and clams in the cioppino were not opened and inedible. The cioppino was cold too. Expensive and waste of money. We were not happy.
Just was disappointed. Waiter bamboozled my husband into getting a $500 king crab didn’t like that.
This was our first visit but it won’t be the last! Excellent waiter who knew the menu well and made some terrific recommendations. Fabulous cocktails and miso cod perfectly prepared. Pricey but palate pleasing!
We brought friends from out of town. Fantastic, never disappoints! Will be back as we have many times before. Thank you.
The waiter was extremely knowledgeable of the fish on the menu which was very refreshing and a master class to boot, I must say.
The sea bass was to die for! (Along with the broccolini.)
One of my go-to places in Santa Monica! Never disappoints!
I wish they would keep the street corn and sauce with the halibut. The other garnishes they use is not as good.
Best lobster roll anywhere coast to coast with beautiful ocean view
This is a wonderful restaurant. Great service, fresh and perfectly prepared seafood and all the other offerings. I can’t to return.
John was great, had him a couple of times and he is a great waiter!
A Birthday Celebration ❤️
Old friend came to Los Angeles. Turns out it was her Birthday.
This is without doubt the best restaurant in Santa Monica (and I have been to them all). The service is fantastic and the food is beyond compare. My wife had the fillet and I had seafood. Both were superb. Don’t kiss the chance of eating here.
Hostess sat us at the worst table even though we had a reservation and there were other open tables.
This is the best seafood restaurant!! Every dish is superb, fresh and delectable. Service is always terrific, ambiance is wonderful. A great restaurant for a meal or any occasion or celebration!!
Server was humorless and absent and not particularly welcoming or engaging. Reservation honored promptly. Location is perfect for enjoying Santa Monica and the views of sunset.
It was my Dads birthday
We’ve been coming fish co restaurant since the early 80s. A go to place for special occasions & GREAT seafood. Also go to downtown branch. Our favorite getaway downtown
Main course came before we had finished entrees, no apologies or understanding of timing. Our mains then got cold while we finished entree.
Staff members were scarce until you are paying your bill!
My husband and I did a drive from San Francisco to Santa Monica for our anniversary. We loved the Grill. They reserved a table for us with a sunset view and brought us an amazing bread pudding with salted Carmel ice cream to end our meal
We love seafood!!! So many choices for dinner. Everything was delicious and our waitress was fantastic Can’t miss having a meal here
Everything that we had hoped it would be - from the Mimosa and Oyster Combo plate, to the delicious Soft Shell crabs to the glorious maple cheesecake dessert.
Can't wait to return.
Great oyster selection. Server made great recommendations.
We were entertaining out of town guests. They really liked our choice of restaurant and its proximity to Santa Monica Pier and Venice Muscle Beach. They loved the seafood dishes. We’ go there again next time.
