Huge fan of Water grill through the years but last night my wife and I went and had an underwhelming experience. Servers were not attentive, had to wait 30 minutes for drinks and the biggest disappointment was the presentation on the sea bass which used to be one of the best I’ve experienced was sloppy. Hopefully this was just an off night, but we likely won’t risk it again.
We brought in our homemade sauces for the seafood and the server was really accommodating about that. I was very pleased with their food and services and the restaurant ambience. Most definitely will be back with family and friends.
Service was EXCELLENT. Food was PHENOMENAL. Drinks were PERFECT.
Lovely experience- great ambience, service and food! Perfect for date night and special occasions!
Always a great meal and our server was awesome
Great Seafood. Chilean Sea Bass and Octopus were amazing. Celebrated a birthday and they brought over a complimentary dessert.
Went here before the Dodgers game and we had a blast!!
Seafood tower is unreal, the 20oz ribeye was delicious and the Shrimp Scampi was cooked perfectly!! Very very cool restaurant 10/10! They knocked it out of the park!! Thankyou WG
MY FIRST TIME AT THIS LOCATION AND I LOVED IT. FOOD AND SERVICE WERE SUPERB!
'Energetic' is a bit of a euphemism - it is a bit loud in the restaurant and it was only half full. Some acoustical improvements would be a good investment to complement the otherwise wonderful venue.
It was the first night of our first-ever trip to LA and we had no idea where to eat dinner. After a discussion with the doorman at our hotel, and his glowing recommendation of Water Grill, we made a quick reservation. We thought he recommended it out of pure convenience, as it is located directly across from our hotel, but what we discovered is that you would be wise to travel across the city to experience it.
First of all, it is somewhat unassuming from the exterior, and might not be a restaurant you would wander into based on its lavish exterior. It's not unappealing, but also doesn't grab your attention. But once you go inside, you find an ambiance befitting a fine-dining experience. The fine-dining theme doesn't stop at ambiance, but permeates throughout the room, the menu and the staff.
The wine list is impressive, as is the list of spirits, mixed cocktails and beer. The drink list is weighty and bound in leather, speaking to the bountiful and exclusive feel of the space. Holding the heavy, leather-clad drink catalog feels special when compared to other high-end restaurants' oversized and clumsy hard-bound drink lists. It is one more element that gives the entire space a feeling of exclusivity.
The meal was as pleasantly surprising as the ambiance. The sea-bass was light and perfectly cooked, with just enough of a sear to give it a crispy exterior, accompanied by light, fluffy butternut gnocchi that held the flavor of the butternut sauce without being weighed down or saturated by it. The NY strip steak was heavenly, with perfect marbling and a texture that would embarrass choice cuts from the best steak houses.
I don't know how often we will travel to LA, but if we do return, the Water Grill will undoubtedly be one of our dining destinations.
Very special occasion but the service was terrible. The lovely server had no idea how to course out meals. We had to ask for share plates over & over. Waited for drinks, and Waited for condiments that go with the entree. The food is delicious but for the price I’m
Expecting all the boxes to be checked!
Super loud between overpacked, music that you can’t hear playing, and a somewhat open kitchen. Definitely not a romantic date kind of place.
If you reserve a seat request opposite side from kitchen. It really cheapens the experience.
Food was ok. I love crab legs and my significant other loves scallops and both were just ok.
Excellent service ( from the waiters to hostesses). Food is really good ( the calamaris are the best in LA). A bit expensive
Always amazing meal and service. The lobster roll and raw oysters are my go to here. Don’t forget to end your meal with a cappuccino, they make a good one!
Always a great choice when down town...........................................................
No corkage, amazing
Asiago bread, incredible
The service, lackluster
Awesome stuff. Good food. Great seafood and excellent service. Oysters were splendid.
Been coming here for business lunches and business dinners since 1997. My favorite place in downtown LA for excellent seafood and wonderful ambiance.
Good food, but overcompensating with too many heavy sauces covering up good quality meat and seafood. The staff is very friendly and nice. I’ve visited the location in Costa Mesa which was more elevated on every level. Having leadership from that location advise the downtown restaurant would be wise. This Water Grill has a lot of potential it’s not living up to.
I came with friends to celebrate my birthday. I felt very welcome and they even gave me a little birthday card. The food was delicious and I will definitely be coming back in the future.
food was awesome we had small hiccup with order staff took care of it right away
Water Grill has incredible food and since we are from the East Coast, this is the restaurant that we take our family who come in from out of town. The Lobster Roll is our staple and it was divine. Our family thoroughly enjoyed it. Our service was good. Amanda was nice and courteous, recommended suggestions, brought us our meals and was helpful. We’ve had better service from past servers, however. It wasn’t that she was bad but just seemed a bit blah. Not what we are used too from here. Overall 5 stars.
Phenomenal meal. Extremely tasty
SO GOOD. Food. Ambiance. Service. Fresh seafood!
Best halibut cheeks ever, and the best Chilean sea bass I have had in a long time.
Hasn’t changed much over the years. Fish was fresh 😃
Always a great experience! Chris, our waiter, was excellent.
Good place for lunch and dinner. Business or casual.
It was fine. Nothing that really stands out and nothing that was bad. Just in the middle. Our waiter was very friendly. Good wasn’t bad or great. My amaretto sour was delicious.
Water Grill never disappoints. Great window seating too.
amazing food and service! the chef came out to congratulate our anniversary and everyone was so amazing
I had a wonderful experience at this location. This was my first time here I really enjoy the one in Santa Monica, but the downtown location is great because of the indoor dining. Will definitely be back to this location very soon. The steak was perfect the seafood was perfect the service was perfect.
This is a great get away place to eat. Great service. Kelly was wonderful and attentive for our anniversary.
Everything was great ! But the dessert was even more amazing . Very friendly and accommodating place .
Great service, delicious food and nice atmosphere. My fiancé LOVED the oysters, and my Chilean sea bass was top notch.
Quality has gone down significantly in recent months...
Love the ambiance, service and most importantly the food!!
Excellent food and service. Although promoted as a seafood restaurant, its steaks are great!
Always a great experience!!!
