I want to know why I was able to book this restaurant through OpenTable when it is Closed. Made a reservation for my birthday and had to then scramble to find another place to eat. Please fix this. The DTLA location is closed.
The restaurant was closed. This restaurant should not have been accepting reservations on open table.
Excellent service and delicious food and drinks...margarita verdes are the best!
Always a pleasure. You know you will get good food, friendly service and appreciation at this old charm.
Drinks at the bar were excellent. At dinner we sampled a dozen oysters until we made our selection. Our waiter was very friendly. He may have been super busy because he forgot to order our last set of oysters. However, he was very kind and took them off of bill. That was very nice. We will definitely go again.
The service (table mannerisms) was exquisite. Food amazing; but, the mask and face mask was excessive. The hostess made us feel very uncomfortable with her ‘strong will’ demeanor to wear our face mask. What’s the point in having a mask if it has to be removed for guest to eat?? Then don’t open at all. I wish we could seen our waiters face. Toooo weird. To say the least; we felt as if we were at a “friends” house; where this “friend” didn’t make us feel warm and welcomed. The ambiance was very cold; it wasn’t an ideal date night for me and my wife. To say the least (again) I’m not quite sure if we will be returning; maybe after all this stupid pandemic is over... maybe? But I don’t think so. We didn’t feel welcomed at all. Kinda cold. Too bad. No thanks.
Great seafood. Great service despite the Covid issue. I dined in before restaurants could only operate outdoors. This review is for their dinning room. Drinks were great. Good place for large or small groups
I can't say enough, this restaurant is amazing, food is great service is wonderful, ambiance classy. Great for a date night. Highly recommend this place for seafood. Can't wait to come back.
Our server was very good. Food was great as always
Delicious food and drinks and excellent customer service
Really good for lunch. Enjoyed lobster roll and scallops were yummy.
Was disappointed due to COVID servers not wearing gloves at least during first month or so.
It was fabulous and Chris our server was extra great! Thank you!
Great service and friendly staff. Food and cocktails are amazing.
My husband and I returned to the Water Grill after several months due to the COVID
lockdown. Sergio, the bartender, greeted us warmly and served up two perfect gin
martinis, just the way we like them. The oysters were outstanding as were the steamed
lobsters. We love the Water Grill and consider ourselves regulars.
Still great under difficult circumstances
We managed to schedule our anniversary dinner in the brief period the restaurant was open between COVID-19 closures. The newly installed barriers had a design element to them and didn't look like slapped-on separators, thus maintaining the elegant feel of the restaurant. I had ordered flowers from BLOOMIES (also highly recommended) and the staff confirmed delivery before our arrival and had them waiting on our table.
Powers was our server and was attentive without being intrusive throughout the meal. He knew the menu and the wine list and service was quick and efficient.
The seabass was meaty and the Ricotta made a nice blend of flavors. The scallops were perfectly seared and melt-in-your-mouth tender.
It had been several years since our last visit to Water Grill. It won't be that long until our next.
With the new Covid regulations set in place, it was a great experience and enjoyed a lovely birthday dinner with the family
Chris was awesome as our server
Went during the corona virus pandemic, the restaurant was basically empty, with our table and perhaps two other tables, yet, the service was poor. Had to ask for bread, when my seafood tower came, it came with no lemons nor plastic picks for the barnacles. You would think since there were such few patrons at th restaurant, the service would be on point! However, it was not. I’ve been here before plenty of time prior when it was totally packed and managed to get way better service. Perhaps it was the pandemonium of CV19 to blame. Let’s leave it at that.
Very good food, excellent service, good wine.
Amazing service and management.
Get the sea bass and scallops...delicious!
a bit too pricey for what they serve. Nothing is particularly a standout here.
The service was great, but the food middling. Plates came out on the cold side and dessert took a long time to be delivered.
Great spot for a birthday. Delish entrees, loved the sablefish and siba noodles, Plus no corkage fee!
Historically have like the place. Had a bad piece of fish. Grilled turned out to be smoked. Waitress, although very nice, was new and no help in navigating the menu.
A bit slow service over lunch, but overall a good spot for seriously seafood.
If you want fresh high quality seafood, this is the place to go. The staff and experience make this restaurant a must for those with an impeccable seafood pallet.
Our service was terrible… And the food wasn’t that good. It’s expensive and I expect more.
Usually a great place for pre-theater dinning but despite us telling our server when we sat down that we we wanted to leave for the theater in 90 mins she still wasn't able to manage the timing and brought out the main course 10 mins before we were supposed leave - very upsetting. Usually, they are much better here.
Outstanding in all respects. Ask to be served by Taylor; she is superb!
Water Grill has a good raw bar and mediocre cooked food. When on business trips to LA I often have dinner of raw oysters and shrimp cocktail and a martini at the bar. Expensive but fun.
Excellent place to fine before a Disney Hall performance.
The quality of the seafood is reliably the best in Los Angeles.
The bread was outstanding. The food was excellent quality. The service was good, but not outstanding.
Ambiance was very nice. Service was a little slow but nothing too terrible. The rib eye and shrimp and grits were delicious. We also had the singleness crab and oyster combo platter. Everything was wonderful.
The quality of the seafood was undeniably high and the venue is very elegant, suitable for special occasions and business meets. The menu is sparse, and in spite of the restaurant's name with almost no grilled items. We had oysters Rockefeller because my wife does not like raw oysters but the way the prepare them here is different, and the oysters come raw. I usually do not have a problem with traditional dishes with a twist, but I think fair warning is warranted particularly when substituting typically cooked ingredients with raw ones. Service was below par and did not match the quality of the venue. I would recommend this place only because of the quality of the seafood but would have to give a few disclaimers. Recommendation with caveats.
I enjoy the Water Grill downtown and the one is Sta Monica a great deal. I bring out of town guests here often because it is reliably great on every level. I've never had a bad dish.
Great service, but a bit pricy...
