Water Grill - Downtown
It was great in every way. The Chilean sea bass is amazing as well as the service and atmosphere
Spectacular food and service
Great food and great atmosphere! Seafood was very fresh and well prepared. Great date night. Even though it’s on the more expensive side, it’s was worth it.
Went in at lunchtime for cocktails and oysters. Sergio was excellent. Later that evening went back for dinner, Dover sole was excellent as well as our waiter, Chris.
Excellent food and service. Nice setting for a business discussion.
Oyster sampler, Grand Iced Shellfish platter, and California Spiny Lobster was good. Clam chowder came out cold, but the manager took it off our bill. Overall good.
As far as I am concerned, this is the best seafood place in DTLA. Food and service were amazing! The only complaint is the noise level which was quite elevated. If you prefer a more intimate dining experience do not go on a weekend. In any case, it was well worth it when considering the delicious food.
Terrific meal and great service! While you have a primary wait person, the teamwork here is amazing. Food comes out in a very timely manner and the quality is outstanding. Highly recommend the Chilean Bass which is one of their signature dishes.
good clean food with service that was very comfortable and pleasant
One of my favorite in LA. The clam chowder changed. It was lighter before. Now it’s time unite thick. Still good but I liked previous version
Don't order meat. I have long enjoyed dining at the Water Grill whenever I visit L.A. I always order fish and an interesting bottle of white wine from their great list. This time my companion brought a special bottle of wine, a red, so we decided to share a fish entrée first with a bottle of white wine and follow it with a shared meat dish with the red wine we brought. First problem was that the first two bottles of white wine we ordered turned out not to be as described on the wine list. While we were waiting for our third choice to appear both the fish and the meat were served. We accepted the fish even though we had no wine yet and we told them to bring the meat when we were done with the fish course. Eventually we got some wine and enjoyed the fish. Then the meat came and it was lukewarm, not hot, definitely not sizzling. We called the waiter back and he apologized and took the meat back. We told him just to reheat it. But he said he would have us a new dish made. After quite some time the waiter said it's about to come off the grill. Shortly thereafter, the meat arrived and it again was not hot. The pat of herbed butter on the top was not even melted. Obviously someone in the kitchen cooked the meat and it sat there getting cold before someone else prepared the platter and put on the pat of butter. Our waiter apparently could not tell that unmelted butter means the meat is not hot, much less sizzling. By this time we were really hungry so we just went ahead and ate the cool meat. The waiter was kind enough to comp us the meat and offer us a dessert to share. Next time I will stick to fish. And hope the wait staff knows how to pay attention.
Our server Chris was superb.
Great place, wonderful food, wonderful service, would definitely come back
Good app round, lovely halibut
The server was wonderful, highly recommend it, excellent eats, never got to the table because the seafood bar was a great seat.
Been here many of times. But this time was a little let down. We had reservations but we were15 minutes late due to traffic it’s LA it can get real bad. Anyway, hostess said it would be 5 to 10 minutes to get a table even though we had a reservation. Well it was more like 25 minutes later before we got seated. Had to rush the server cause we we a theater tickets and had to leave by a certain time. Not sure why such the long wait, but was a little disappointed with this visit.
The food was very good , service was good but not perfect
Everything was perfect for my husbands birthday dinner!
Thank you. Was delicious.
Great food and service’
Halibut was over cooked and extremely salty.
The octopus was outstanding along with the oysters from the seafood bar.
Love this place. Just really pleasant vibe, pro service and great simple food.
Service was outstanding. Oysters were good not great. Sea Bass was phenomenal! Thank You!
We all enjoyed our meals but to be honest it was just ok. I was hoping to just get my fish grilled but the waiter seemed put off that I asked and said well ya if you just want a piece of plain halibut. Up to you but that’s not what we do here. I ordered an app for dinner instead. Service felt rushed. Not sure I would go back.
Everything was amazing!
Eat here regularly when in town. No corkage fee which is great and food always good. Our server (Chris) was excellent as well as support staff.
The food was absolutely delicious. Wine was great and they even offered a glass of champagne on the house because I was celebrating my birthday. However the highlight of the night was our waitress Rowan. She was exceptional. Based on the service and food, I highly recommend. I will be returning the next time I am in LA.
Tis the season for "Spiny Lobsters" . Just outstanding. Santa Barbara spot prawns fall into the same category. Always has the best selection of oysters in all of Los Angeles. Never fails to please. Service was top-notch. They honor your requests.
Austin our server was amazing.
Exceptional seafood! Nice ambiance.
Flabio is the best. Food and experience was top notch. Had the scallops and sea bass. Excellent food and service.
There were 4 people in our party, and the meals ranged from good to mediocre - none of it was great. The swordfish was good, but accompanying "marinated" zucchini tasted of nothing but vinegar. The fish in the fish & chips was under seasoned, the crab in the cioppino was very poor quality, the heirloom tomatoes in the heirloom tomato salad were mealy. The waiter was inattentive, and although we had allowed an hour and 45 minutes for our meal in order to get to a performance at Disney Hall at 8 pm, we were extremely rushed in the end. We had informed our waiter of our time constraints, but when we ordered coffee & dessert at the end, it took so long to arrive that we had only 5 minutes to eat and pay in order to leave on time. Overall, a very disappointing experience. I have eaten at Water Grill a couple of times in the past, but given that our bill, with tip, came to almost $100 per person, for this quality and service I am not interested in going here again.
Eaten here several times when in LA for work and each time I go, the quality of food seems to get worse & worse. Shocking considering the prices. Too bad, used to be a good place for seafood.
We had a fantastic birthday celebration. All the staff was great. The food was among the best dining we have ever had. Delicious clams and amazing scallops. Luis our waiter was perfect in his attention and fun to joke with. The Water Grill is now on my list of favorites. It would have been already but this was our first time.
We had a lovely time celebrating life and eating wonderful food at the Water Grill. The crab cakes, tomato salad, macaroni & cheese steak, and cheerful knowledgeable server were superb. We will definitely dine here next time we are in town. The Fitzgerald’s from Lafayette La
The Watergrill is an historical staple to downtown and it’s still an awesome place for happy hour or the best fish meal! Love it. Service is impeccable. Food delicious. It’s gets noisy after 7. We had an early dinner before going to see an evening play at the Ahmanson. It was perfect. Set in the historical PAcifuc Mutual Building. Free parking with validation. The only thing that needs to change is their seats at the tables! Some are worn out And sag. 🙄😬
We celebrated our anniversary and the service & food were fantastic! The new manager is lovely !! We love water grill
Is a really nice restaurant, the food was awesome. We had to wait, for dessert a long time. But the service was great.
