Our evening at Water Grill in Los Angeles was a thoroughly enjoyable experience from beginning to end. The dining area felt spacious and welcoming yet intimate. Upon entering, we were taken to our table immediately. Everyone there was friendly, courteous and helpful. The service was prompt; our waiter was exemplary - responsive to requests and even anticipated our preferences. The food selections were beautifully prepared and served and delicious. We look forward to coming here again and would recommend it to others enthusiastically.
Went during Sunday brunch. It was relatively quiet and not crowded. I actually enjoyed that. Our waitress was amazing and provided my mom and I great recommendations and service. Food was great. My mom is such a picky eater and she liked everything. We had the clam chowder, Mahi Mahi and lobster roll.
Poor service. Overcooked lobster. It was taken off of my bill but since that is what I specifically went there for I was very let down. We will not be returning.
Much too expensive. For three of us having dinner was $260. Seemed high for what we had.
Seated promptly. Luis our waiter was knowledgeable and attentive. Great suggestions! Presentation was good and the food was great. Will go again when we are in town.
Out of town guest birthday food was good portion kind of small
Excellent, though a bit noisy. Great service and everything was delicious!
Great meal with perfect service. Every piece of fish was cooked beautifully.
Had a great time. Food and service were top notch. The salmon was excellent. Had a nice crust on top and was cooked perfectly. My sisters ordered the sea bass, which was also cooked perfectly and very delicious. The restaurant was full, so a bit noisy. Other than that, enjoyed the evening very much.
We had to send back a salad that was overdressed and bread pudding that was over cooked
My wife and I took some friends who have never had the pleasure of dining at the Water Grill. They were very impressed and everyone enjoyed their entrees. The Black Cod, Scallops, Sea Bass and Swordfish were all amazing!!
Can’t wait to go back!
Food want as good as the one in Costa Mesa. Was not pleased with order at all. Plus I messed up a new sweater and dress opening up a shrimp with the pasta dish. Was not expecting it to squirt out when I pulled she'll off. Wasn't able to get the tree spots out if using peroxide and Oxi Clean. So very disappointed in that. Over $100 for my cloths and almost $100 in food bill. Won't be coming back.
Excellent, food,service and ambiance .
Love the halibut checks appetizer and the halibut dinner.
Great wine selection and of course the service is the best....Walter was exceptional .
The Mgr was very helpful great us and make us feel very welcome and always checking with us thru the dinner.
Keep the excellent service.
Outstanding dinner. And been to water grill in some time now. It was fabulous, will be back again soon.
Food was just so so, Service was fine. Very noisy and hard to hold a conversation without struggling to hear or speaking louder than is comfortable. Very pricey based on the quality of the food which was not spectacular.
Everything was perfect, from food to service. Will recommend
Not your average seafood restaurant! We seldom see cod cheeks on a menu, and they are a delight when done well. They were perfect, and the raw bar looked divine, altho we skipped it this time. The dessert was ok. I would try the homemade ice cream next time. Cocktail was inspired, in a beautiful Nick and Nora glass.
Wonderful food - but we had to wait about 15 minutes after being seated for our server to arrive (and actually nudged the service by notifying the reception that we hadn't been checked in with.) Oysters arrive just fine - but then our main dinner was significantly delayed with the excuse from both the supervisor and waiter that the food that the dinner that came out was not to their standards and was sent back. We've been to the Water Grill before, and would go again - but was very disappointed by the service this time. It's just an expensive meal - and it's important that the service reflects the prices that are paid.
4 of 6 dishes were not correct, salmon half cooked, grilled shrimp redone, octopus over cooked twice. GM adjusted bill.
Fine dining at a reasonable price for the experience offered. Great wine selection to compliment the menu standards.
Loved the restaurant. The Halibut was amazing. The seafood fritters were ok. Our server recommended an amber beer that paired perfectly with the halibut, that was awesome.
The Water Grill in Orange County is a larger and nicer environment with larger portions in the bacon department, but this one worked very well for us on a date night in LA. Great atmosphere, delicious food, and the service we have come to expect from an amazing wait staff.
Was our first visit. Loved the ambience. Awesome! Waitress bubbly but became inattentive.
We ordered halibut ceviche which came as a whole fish! ?? Was not communicated it would be served that way. Tasted bland a d was chewing. We each had one taste and could not have another morsel.
Server kindly took away and apologized for poor communication. We replaced it with tuna poke which we also could not eat but a dish we usually enjoy. It was flavorless.
The good - we ordered the halibut special which was totally awesome! Delicious!
We will try again next time we're in town but will be careful what we order. Lovely venue.
We always sit at the bar. The oyster selections at bountiful and fresh! Obed is our favourite behind the bar -- his oysters are shucked properly and his recommendations re trustworthy.
Great waiter and bartender. The food was terrible. This used to be a premier restaurant you could count on, but the preparation as gone downhill since the "transformation" of trying to be hip!!! The oysters were still excellent, but everything else was overcooked and "fishy." One of the few places you can get real "European" Dover Sole, but the kitchen obviously doesn't know how to prepare it and serve it (should be whole and boned at the table. Our waiter would have done it as he learned how at a restaurant now closed, but it wouldn't have helped. Once a fish is overcooked, there's nothing that can be done. This is our second try in last few months, and it was awful both times. Use to be a favorite.
WE WON'T BE BACK!
Wonderful food and wonderful atmosphere. Perfect for a special occasion or just a casual lunch
I was very disappointed in the meal. I hadn’t been to the Water Grille in over six years. The food had always been excellent. Maybe an off night. The shrimp cocktail wasn’t very good - the shrimp were a bit mealy and the cocktail sauce taste like sweet Bbq sauce. Not a good taste. And the lobster wasn’t sweet - it was bland. Some of the other foods (tuna poke and black cod) were much better though.
Food was great, though I prefer more seasoning on my meat. With health considerations, though, not surprised by less seasoning. Service was great.
Very disappointed food thrown onto plates very patchy inattentive service. Front desk person was fantastic but it went downhill from there!
Probably my worst dining experience ever , embarrassing me in front of my client and upsetting my entire evening. I was on a business meal with another fellow and had requested to be seated in a quiet area.
Dover sole floated in a veritable pail of sauce and requested capers were also floating too. My clients lobster and separate ala carte filet were overcooked. Steak was left in its entirety after one bite and the lobster claws were the only eaten part of the lobster.
Ambiance? A nearby table of more than 10 was screaming , running about, running outside toknock on the window to show antics to their friends. They were louder than an Aussie rugby team with members obviously drunk and the matre d did nothing.
No one asked us about our meals, if we wanted anything else, etc.
I shall not return to water grill ! especially not for a meal costing about $250.00.
Shame on Management!
Our Waitress (Jenna/Jinna/Ginna) is very polite, helpful and courteous. She is very knowledgeable of the menu and offered us many delicious and tasty options. Our party is very satisfied with the ambiance of the restaurant with the dim lighting and overall structure of the place. It's very relaxing and I enjoyed the experience 100%
This place has it all great lighting great wine options and perfect service. Perfect way to spend my anniversary.
Very nice restaurant with great ambience. We were welcomed and treated nicely by the maitre d' and the rest of the staff. The food was delicious from apps through the entrees. The one disappointment was that our waiter made it a chore to modify our order to accommodate our dietary needs (gluten free, no meat products, no dairy). When I searched for restaurants that had gluten free items on the menu, they appeared. They should probably not advertise themselves that way. It's a seafood restaurant and I was surprised that a lot of their sauces used in cooking had chicken stock as the main ingredient. We don't eat meat. Expectations were that we could go there and have a wonderful seafood dinner. The food was great once we got our order modified the way we wanted it. It was just a hassle. It kind of marred the experience. I probably won't go back there for that reason. But, for those with no dietary restrictions, it's a wonderful restaurant. And, I highly recommend it for most people.
A truly outstanding experience. Split the Wedge Salad, and the Seafood Tower -- what a feast. Service was over the top, with people checking on our satisfaction every 10 minutes or so throughout the meal. Not crazy about the mussels and clams on the Tower, but everything else was excellent. We'll be back next time we are downtown.
I can’t say enough about this Water Grill. The food and service were exceptional. I had Dover sole and my guest had grouper. We shared the brussels sprouts which were the best ever. Even my decaf cappuccino was excellent.
While the Water Grill in Santa Monica is good, it does not compare to the excellence of the downtown location.
Great experience. First time here. Food (I had swordfish, & my sister had halibut) was cooked to perfection. Fish moist but cooked and had a pleasant crusty sear on it. Service was excellent (though an order from a neighboring table was mistakenly brought to us. Not a big deal and rapidly corrected.) not inexpensive, but reasonable for the quality and location. Will come back again!
I originally had reservations for dinner because we were at the museum. We got done early and had a late lunch. The hostess was very accommodating. This was our first time dining with you. My friend had the scallops, I had a crab cake and clam chowder — excellent. The bread served for the table was delicious. I cannot wait to dine again.
The food and service were amazing. The ambiance is far from romantic, but it is lively and upbeat.
The staff was amazing. Our server provided a detailed explanation of our oyster sampler. When we ordered drinks, the staff was on point on delivering them in a timely manner. The food was excellent. I would recommend this place to anyone who is in town.
The atmosphere there was great . Only the food is not as good as I expected. It was a little bit salty and not hot at all.
