This place has it all great lighting great wine options and perfect service. Perfect way to spend my anniversary.
Very nice restaurant with great ambience. We were welcomed and treated nicely by the maitre d' and the rest of the staff. The food was delicious from apps through the entrees. The one disappointment was that our waiter made it a chore to modify our order to accommodate our dietary needs (gluten free, no meat products, no dairy). When I searched for restaurants that had gluten free items on the menu, they appeared. They should probably not advertise themselves that way. It's a seafood restaurant and I was surprised that a lot of their sauces used in cooking had chicken stock as the main ingredient. We don't eat meat. Expectations were that we could go there and have a wonderful seafood dinner. The food was great once we got our order modified the way we wanted it. It was just a hassle. It kind of marred the experience. I probably won't go back there for that reason. But, for those with no dietary restrictions, it's a wonderful restaurant. And, I highly recommend it for most people.
A truly outstanding experience. Split the Wedge Salad, and the Seafood Tower -- what a feast. Service was over the top, with people checking on our satisfaction every 10 minutes or so throughout the meal. Not crazy about the mussels and clams on the Tower, but everything else was excellent. We'll be back next time we are downtown.
I can’t say enough about this Water Grill. The food and service were exceptional. I had Dover sole and my guest had grouper. We shared the brussels sprouts which were the best ever. Even my decaf cappuccino was excellent.
While the Water Grill in Santa Monica is good, it does not compare to the excellence of the downtown location.
Great experience. First time here. Food (I had swordfish, & my sister had halibut) was cooked to perfection. Fish moist but cooked and had a pleasant crusty sear on it. Service was excellent (though an order from a neighboring table was mistakenly brought to us. Not a big deal and rapidly corrected.) not inexpensive, but reasonable for the quality and location. Will come back again!
I originally had reservations for dinner because we were at the museum. We got done early and had a late lunch. The hostess was very accommodating. This was our first time dining with you. My friend had the scallops, I had a crab cake and clam chowder — excellent. The bread served for the table was delicious. I cannot wait to dine again.
The food and service were amazing. The ambiance is far from romantic, but it is lively and upbeat.
The staff was amazing. Our server provided a detailed explanation of our oyster sampler. When we ordered drinks, the staff was on point on delivering them in a timely manner. The food was excellent. I would recommend this place to anyone who is in town.
The atmosphere there was great . Only the food is not as good as I expected. It was a little bit salty and not hot at all.
12oz filet was char burned. Thick crust of burned hockey puck. Potatoes would have been better if at least room temp not cool to the touch, paste that looked more congealed than mashed. Spiney lobster was lukewarm. Kentucky Preacher was Kentucky sweet. I heard there was liquor in there but no evidence of same.Arrived 6:05 for 6pm seating. Took 1:20 minutes for dinner to arrive. Wasted 15 minutes on meal, had to leave for 8p show. Asiago bread was best part of meal.
Food is excellent however service was somewhat slow.
Loud, cold, very pour service and not even busy. Disappointing with all the good reviews.
Had a casual lunch w/ a friend.....waiter was not informative....ie: Nr Amr Lobster you have to request for it to grilled as opposed to steamed....waiter never said a word.....we got 2 steamed .....octopus apt....was overcooked....still you own the seafood bus...DT.....just for the $$cost....your product and service should be a few notches above where you are..
Loved our server Flavio, who made the entire evening run smoothly plus he really knows his oysters, as I do. Learned that he's worked there 27 yrs, working his way from bus boy, dishwasher etc. and understanding how each job tis to another to making the business successful. Great wine, food YUMMY and service...perfect.
Food was excellent, service was very poor.
We had a 4-top of business people after a meeting. Seating was relatively quick as the restaurant was only partially full. After being seated, it took 20 minutes for us to order and receive our first round of drinks. Our water glasses were emptied in the interim and all bread eaten. We had to ask to place our order and even that felt like we were imposing. The excuse was that the restaurant was busy, but looking across the room we doubted it, more like a staffing issue.
No offer of a free appetizer or other make-good, just thanks for coming. Management could have made significantly more profit from us had they served us more promptly and refilled our drinks twice more while we waited.
When the food came, it was well prepared and tasty. The presentations were appealing and matched the quality of the preparations. At some point, I assume we will come back and hopefully they will have straightened out their staffing issue by then.
Front desk attendant and server were spectacular!!! Thanks
Was great ... amazing fish
this place is always my first choice!!! Best of the best! Raw seafood and cooked seafood are both the best!!! Scallop is what you cannot miss and the black cod, trust me, can make your day. So far it’s the best seafood restaurant in la in my opinion. Everything is just like what it should be!
Dined here for my wife's Birthday. The food and service were outstanding! The atmosphere was perfect for dinning and the oysters were all fresh and tasty. We will be back!
Excellent food, amazing service our server Walter was on point and exceptionally friendly and attentive we brought out of town guests here and were not disappointed! Would for sure come back here again.
The seafood at Water Grill is always fresh and served properly. The raw bar is amazing. Water Grill has an excellent Clam Chowder. Spiney Lobster,Spot Prawns and Main Lobster was in the tanks. Water Grill is always on our list whether in downtown or Santa Monica locations.
Great ambience, wonderful staff. The food was delicious, although the Brussels sprouts were a little over-cooked. Overall, a wonderful experience.
The four of us thought our entrees were excellent--Dover sole, swordfish, Chilean sea bass, cod. Amber was an excellent server who also guided us for the selection.
It was a very pleasant evening for us
Ambience is fabulous, the building is a wonderful historic building with Marble lobby entry way and it is absolutely beautiful. The restaurant decor is very nice, beautiful and elegant. The food not as impressive, I order the scallops it came with 3 nice size scallops with a tiny bit of cauliflower , however it was a tad bit salty, not bad enough for me to send back , but disappointing . I also ordered the Beet salad which was delicious . The person I was with ordered the sea bass that was not warm when it arrived at the table and was sent back to reheat up . For the price point I would expect a much better dining experience. I also order a dry martini which was perfect. So in conclusion , might be a good place for a cocktail and perhaps their raw oyster bar or appetizer , but I would not go there again for dinner.
Second time there and everything was great, service, food, ambiance. Enjoy going there. Will need to check out the SM location sometime soon.
Overall quite good. I would give it another star if it wasn't for the soggy old fashion bread that was served. The restaurant should be able to have real french bread and whole grain breads. My first impression of the bread made me wary of what is next to come. Need to work on the sorbets too: too icy ( not enough fruits?) . Service was outstanding. Noise level a bit loud with loud music streaming. Need to regulate noise level so people can talk and not shout across the table. Will go back for the excellent seafood and in the hope to have some good breads with dinner. The cheese top and sea salt top were a miss in my opinion....
Great ambiance combined with great food and service is hard to beat. Water Grill is one of my long-time favorites.
We had a wonderful evening and mostly because we had a wonderful waiter. He did not rush us, he explained the various dishes and he was always very friendly. Very nice experience.
Terrible service. Terrible. Never coming back because of it
Fish was dry no flavor and service was painfully slow. Extremely disappointed, especially for the price!!
We reserve 6 people hoping to have an enjoyable dinner thru open table siting , instead we were assigned a bar table sits with high table and chairs , I was disappointed about the assigned sitting and especially my mom who’s 85 years old sitting on an uncomfortable seat. We requested for better sitting , they told us another hour wait if we want to change. Our dinner was at 8.00pm if we waited ,it will be 9:00
Forget it , terrible food and services !
It was awesome! All the staff was really nice and friendly. The food was delicious! We really enjoy being here of course we would like to come back!
Lively with attentive staff and excellent seafood menu
Quiet Saturday noon luncheon with friends who brought wine for the meal. Reasonable corkage. Staff is excellent
Our server Amy was friendly and professional. The food was really good, I highly recommend the bread with the cheese baked on it!!
Very nice restaurant with perfect food, the fish and oysters was delicious.
Portions were EXTREMELY small for the price we paid. No or very little vegetable accompanied the entree. Food was good, but if you are hungry, be sure to order an appetizer or two and a side vegetable. Waiter was nice and accommodating. Knew his stuff.
