Wish I hadn’t gone to Water Grill. Overrated, over priced trendy spot. Ordered the $47 sea bass with squash gnocchi which the server recommended. Fish was good and the gnocchi which surrounded it was cold and unappetizing. The pairing ruined the meal. Server was too busy and really slow. Place has tables on top of each other. Portions are small. Not a good meal and not relaxing or enjoyable at all. Many better choices.
The seafood was fresh, various, and excellent, but the place was so loud that it was a relief to leave. Best for youngsters who like a loud bar atmosphere. This was on a Thursday night, 6:00 reservation.
Uncharacteristically poor service, very slow, food taken to the wrong table. Consistently poor all night! Still a good restaurant and hopefully just a fluke or bad night for the waiter.
We have dined here since the restaurant opened and The Water Grill remains our favorite downtown place. Good bar, found a bartender who can put ice shards in my shaken martini. Spot on wait staff. Not cheap but we have always had a great meal. We had nice Big Eye Tuna crudo, a Bitter Green Salad and just perfectly cooked Black Cod over soba noodles.
As opposed to those places where you spend a few hundred dollars and realize I could have cooked a meal as well as this, in the dozens of meals here I have never felt that.
The wine list is reasonably priced, we had a drop dead perfect White Burgundy for under one hundred and have seen it for fifty dollars more elsewhere.
Honestly over rated and overpriced in general. Underdressed salads, bland poke, less than stellar scallops....stick to chilled seafood.
The only good thing was our fantastic, but completely unsupported server. She seemed to be handling over half the restaurant alone but found time to interact with all her customers, set and bus tables and check back regularly. Watching her work alone at that pace made us (seasoned servers ) feel stressed and not at all relaxed.
We won’t go back or recommend.
Outstanding food and wine, our server Austin was really great!!
Very nice fish house with a great selection. Nice venue but noisy. A bit pricey and wine list over priced.
Superb seafood, perfectly prepared. A surpise: simple mixed green salad was elevated w shaved root veggies and sliced avocado. Local swordfish w mahi mahi prep (Chablis poached raisins and browned butter) was excellent.
Good food..good service! Love our server 💜 ❤️🧡💛💚💙
I bad a problem with cold lobster,at the and there Washington something bitter
Been here twice great food but this time service was very slow
It has been awhile since I last went to WaterGrill. Service is always attentive and entree choices are top notch and delicious. Excellent for business meals.
Our food was outstanding and our waiter was great. Only issue was that we ordered a bottle of wine prior to our dinner arriving. About 10 minutes after our food arrived, the manager let us know they were out of the selected bottle. We selected another and due to the inconvenience, the manager provided the wine at no charge which we thought was gracious.
Good food and service, priced faitly
The raw bar is quite extensive. They even offer fresh sea urchin, which was excellent. I had the black cod which was cooked perfectly and delicious. The bread pudding is the choice for dessert.
We made a reservation at 7.30 and we wait until 8.10 to get a table. There was a small group of 4 and the staff didnt noticed there was a few high tables available.
They have problems managing the reserve or offering coffe or something as compensation for the long wait.
Normally love Water Grill. Food is amazing. Unfortunately, our lunch took well over 2 hours. I understand that kitchen/wait staffing is tough, but nobody apologized for or even acknowledged the insanely slow service. May need to reconsider this as a business lunch spot.
Raw bar great. Rest of fish mediocre. This is our third try. Will probably stop going unless it is for cold shellfish.
Great service. Our server Chris was one of the best servers I’ve ever had. Everyone was friendly. Food price was very expensive for portion size but overall very good food. Salmon was a little oily from what ever they pan fried it with, but the chorizo & clams and raw oysters were excellent.
I also like that they offer sparkling water at no extra expense.
I would recommend to anyone with deep pockets or those who want to impress a date.
After reading about the restaurant on Trip Advisor, it seemed that there were various vegetarian options, including salads, according to the menu that was online. There was one vegetarian pasta dinner, but I really wanted a good salad after doing a lot of traveling. The vegetarian salads listed online are not on their menu. I talked with the server and the maitre d', but was not offered a salad to order. That's when I left. This restaurant is definitely not vegetarian or vegan friendly, as was also listed online.
And birthday celebration
Great place and great food. Staff was friendly and amazing
Incredibly fresh seafood. Great meal.
Everything was great! The beet salad was awesome but could have used a few more beets in it.
Horrible! Never again!
Watergrill always has great fish. The lobster roll was very tasty. Their Asiago cheese bread is great. I did order the tortellini, which is not as good as the fish, but I probably should not have ordered pasta from a seafood restaurant. It was fine, just needed more flavor and the serving size was more like an appetizer size.
Always consistently great food.
We flew in for the ESPN NBA All-Star 2018. We stayed at the Westin Bonaventure, a five-minute walk from the restaurant. We so enjoyed every minute of our dinner -- the food was perfect, and Jenna, our server was friendly, professional, and more than helpful. And, the ambiance was great too: we could actually converse! We will certainly go back the next time we're in the area.
Just perfect! First we were running late with traffic but I called ahead. They were so accommodating and kind. Every staff person was so gracious with great personalities. I cannot adequately express how much we appreciated the first rate service.
Food was exceptional. Martini and wine were wonderful. Waitress and other service staff were blazing fast!
After going to our usual West Hollywood or Beverly Hills restaurants; which are always sub-par at best, we’ve decided that every time we want to go out to dinner we no longer need to think twice. We’re simply reserving Water Grill. Now you’re stuck with us!
Great find and the food was outstanding! We started with a crab cake and Tuna Poke to share - so fresh and WOW! The fish is awesome and the side dishes were great and interesting - we had the Crispy Polenta and the Kale! The Clam Chowder is well prepared and they have a unique twist with clams in the shell which I haven't seen before! This is restaurant is a keeper and hope to be back next time we are in LA!
As always great food and service!
Perfect place to meet up with old friends! Our server was attentive and terrific. Food scrumptious. Looking forward to returning when we’re back in LA
We got in before the rush. Very relaxed experience. The scallops were wonderful. I really enjoyed their cioppino. Our server was very nice and attentive.
Attended for my wife's Valentines day birthday.
Got seated by window which at first seemed ok but was right next to bus station. Constant traffic and noise from dishes. Horrible.
The fresh oysters were excellent, really good, but ended there.
Ordered two of the fresh whole fish.
Our order took about 1 hour to come to table.
My sole was ok fish taste wise but was swimming in oily butter. All the massive butter/oil ruined the dish. That was all that was on plate. Needed some other thing on plate like a vegetable or ?
My wife order a whole fist oven baked. The fish was so/so and very large and extremely expensive. Her fish dish was over $70 and it just was not that good. Was absurd.
Restaurant is way too old school. Needs good fish on menu fresh prepared and lightly treated.
Never go there again.
The Chilean Sea Bass was the bomb! Had to refill my own wine glass a couple of times though...
A downtown Los Angeles icon, and well worth a visit. Ambiance is great, food and service were outstanding.
The food was outstanding. One of the very few places where you can buy Wild fish, and they have an incredible selection of fish. The meal should have come with a salad and a simple desert, but it didn't.
Service was slow and we had a 5:45 reservation
Breads were phenomenal and best part of meal.
One of our sides came after some of us had finished our main course .octopuswas really good. My Mexican sea bass was tasty but dry.
Just not the quality it once was as the finest seafood restaurant in the city
Everything was wonderful, as usual. The tuna poke was the hit!! Thank you for a great evening!
Great seafood restaurant. Definitely will dine again here. Very close to the Biltmore LA
