Washington Prime Ratings and Reviews
My group and I (total of 10 people) wen to this place for my birthday. The food is very good, but the prices are pretty high. And, considering the prices, the service should have been WAY better. They appeared to have only one server helping a private room which contained two groups of 10. A better waiter might have been able to handle it, but this guy just wasn't very attentive. Otherwise the place is beautiful and the food is yummy.
I don’t feel I can give an accurate review. We had a 6 pm reservation and they called to say the hood exhaust fan in the kitchen was broken. They said it would be fixed by 7. We were told that they had soup & cold appetizers. We arrived at about 6:40 and we ordered shrimp cocktail, oysters & French onion soup. They were all very good. The fan was not fixed by 7:30 so we left. It was very nice that they called and gave us the option of cancelling. I hope they are up and running!
For my money this is the best steak place in the Norwalk - Westport area. The room is heavily weighted to bar dining and we would prefer more separation. Perhaps go early on a week night. We were in on a Sunday and there was live music at the bar which we had not anticipated. We had done a group dinner in July and the food was great. This time it was just the two of us. I did three appetizers; of note was the steak tartare which was "prime" and as good as I've had anywhere.
Some of the food items were not very good- including the porterhouse steak. The steak was incredibly tough with major veins in half the steak. The apps were very good, the side were a mixed bag- with things like the truffle mashed potato that really lacked any authentic truffle flavor. It was a very nice setting and staff was very pleasant, but the food really had quality issues.
They struggle with a full house. Ate there on a prior occasion and it was less crowded and the food and service was great. This experience was not very good. Food was fair at best. The service team worked hard to make the evening better, but in my view, they are an experienced server short in terms of staffing, especially if you are sitting large tables of 8 or more on a Saturday night. Those tables take a server away from their smaller parties, and those parties suffer. Steak needs to be better for the prices they charge. Plus, a $50 steak thrown on a brown piece of wood with nothing else surrounding it looks poor.
Came here once before and enjoyed our steaks, decided to try again and were not disappointed. Bacon appetizer with tomatoes and onions great, as were filets, cooked perfectly and with a nice char. Brussels sprouts tasty as a side, good ice cream sandwich for dessert. Polite and efficient service.
Washington Prime is a steak house- and as such, you might not expect a lot of thought to be put into their vegetarian options. At a lot of restaurants, waitstaff merely point you to the side dishes with a shrug. But Washing Prime has a number of great salads, and at least one terrific vegetarian option- their Cauliflower steak-- it was delish, and I'm not even vegetarian, I was just looking for something not quite so filling as a steak. And I'm still dreaming about their burrata in their beet & burrata salad. All in all, a great meal!
We went to Washington Prime as a first date and I had asked for a rose to be left for my date. They fulfilled my request and exceeded my expectations. The service was top notch. Very attentive to our needs, but they left us to our conversation without constant interruption. I highly recommend Washington Prime. Food was great too :)
This visit was a repeat visit so it's not just a one-time experience. I again ordered the NY strip steak medium rare. The steak was a very visually attractive piece of beef and was cooked nicely. It was a bit charred on the outside and progressively rare toward the middle. However, for a "prime" cut it was sorely lacking in flavor and tenderness. It had gristle on two sides of the piece which required trimming and was very chewy, leaning toward tough. I tried and I ate almost all of the piece but I was quite disappointed. I think, however, this was a third similar experience over a years period and we will not be returning.
We came with a group of friends for the Sunday buffet we had been to on two previous occasions. We found out when we arrived that the brunch buffet had been discontinued. If you Google Norwalk brunch buffet, you will still find plenty of results listing Washington Prime. Also, we had a gift card and they wouldn't allow us to use it to tip our waiter. Other than that, the food was good, although I would say it's a bit pricey for what you get and we woild not have made the trip had we known they weren't doing the buffet. Plenty of other places we could have gone for brunch food.
