The meal from drinks and appetizers through to dessert was phenomenal. One of the best meals I've ever eaten, and my husband and I eat out frequently and have high expectations of the food and service. Can't wait until we are back in Cape May!
This was my first dining experience at The Washington Inn and honestly one of the best meals of my life. The lobster tails were fresh, delicious, and reasonably priced for the amount of food you get. It came with a delicious seafood risotto underneath. The tomahawk pork chop special was perfectly cooked, crispy outside, and really thick with a delicious brown sauce to dip into. It came with mashed potatoes and bacon lardon which was awesome! The appetizers were also really good and they had this dessert that was a homemade cheesecake but in a soft mousse like form.
The ambience was perfect with several different cozy rooms where you dine (we dined in a porch-like room off of the main bar area with wrap around windows looking out toward washington street (perfect atmosphere for a nice romantic dinner). To add to everything, they played a great soundtrack of old time classic 60s music that was perfect volume, and the wait staff were excellent. Thanks for a great meal and a perfect night out!
Call the restaurant to check the menu as open table menu was inaccurate. My Wife loves duck as it was listed on the menu. When we arrived there was no duck and menu was totally different. My wife does not eat meat or seafood. What type of restaurant does not even have A chicken dish on the menu. She was forced to have the Vegan dish as it was her only option. Very disappointing!,
Wonderful service, food and atmosphere. Perfect for a special evening.
Always extraordinary. We love it there. The combinations and the seasoning are unreal. A real treat!
This was the perfect night. From the valet parking to the attentive and welcoming service the experience was excellent. The food was equally exceptional but not the halibut ( stay away from this. It was bland and dry). The bread, octopus appetizer and Cioppino and chocolate decadence was more than memorable. And for you Pappy Van Winkle lovers they have it available. I love this place. Ask to be seated in the deck converted to in door dining. It is a softer noise level.
We were celebrating our 43rd wedding anniversary. They seated us downstairs in the wine cellar which was a smaller area but we had a lot of attention from staff. James, our server who was also their sommelier, was extremely attentive and offered helpful suggestions when deciding on our meal and dessert. Other parties were celebrating events and it was a very friendly environment. Our appetizers were amazing. We had the burrata dish and crab cakes. So yummy! (I forgot to take pictures!). My husband had the braised short ribs for dinner and I had the halibut. Both were very delicious!! We shared the chocolate sampler for dessert. So yummy!! Highly recommend The Washington Inn!!!
The Washington inn has and continues to be one of our favorite restaurants. The food is always good and the service is predictable. Only negative is price, cocktails are overpriced.
We were disappointed this time we don't like to go in the summer because of the crowds but usually the food is still good
The Washington Inn never fails to amaze when you order the grilled filet mignon. Perfectly prepared dish that is added to the already nice ambiance that is present. Washington Inn is a perfect date night/special occasion location in Cape May! A definite must for those visiting the shore town!
As usual the food and service was fantastic.
Food was great and James S. is the best!!! Always enjoyable
Every time we go to the Washington Inn, it’s truly an experience. Whether it’s reconnecting with friends or being surprised by knowing the wait or bar staff, they are all so friendly and happy to serve you. The food is local and out of this world. We love going there for special occasions.
Lovely dining experience. Quiet, expert service, great food.
Date night for my wife and I.
Outstanding servers . Delicious food and generous portions. Loved the 5x5 for oysters as an appetizer.
The food and service was great as it usually is on several previous occasions when we dined at the Washington Inn. My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our late celebration of Valentine's Day!
We have never had a bad meal at the Washington Inn and Friday was no exception. The food and service were simply outstanding. We had a lovely table for two on the porch. Candles and under lighting made the room incredibly romantic. We highly recommend the Filet Mignon and Salmon entrees. Wine is excellent. Ask for the newest dessert Fromage. Exceptional! Thank you for another wonderful evening.
Nice location and ambiance. Staff was friendly. Nice bar to have a drink before dinner. Good was delicious.
As expected our Valentines dinner was excellent. Our meal was superb the wine very good and reasonably priced, the service as expected at one of the states finest fine dinning destinations.
Excellent food and service. Would like a few more enter choices
We had a very enjoyable valentine's evening at Washington inn. It was 1st time we were there, I would recommend it to everyone. The food(we had the halubut) was wonderful. My only criticism was that they didn't have the only wine I drink, so I settled for water. Other than that, it was an enjoyable evening. I can't wait to go again.
Wonderful evening! We were very happy with my food selections and everything tasted great. Also, our waiter was very attentive and personable.
Enjoyed the best Valentune’s dinner at the Washington Inn. Outstanding food, service and ambience!
I go to the Washington Inn every time I'm in Cape May.....love it there!
Our great experience was set into motion by our outstanding server, Sean, who did a great job of pacing the meal and checking in with us at the right frequency. Food was very, very good. We enjoyed every dish. It was a great restaurant experience.
Great food and great set
Fabulous food and atmosphere. Top shelf liquor and dishes. Love it every time we go.
Wonderful NYE experience!! The food was fantastic and the service ran like a well oiled machine!!
Excellent food, service and entire staff.
We have enjoyed dining at The Washington Inn every year in the 30+ years that we have stayed in Cape May, and will continue to do so in the future!
Thanks and continue to offer the best dining in Cape May and the entire Eastern seashore!

Everything was running perfect received our soup and salad and then it went downhill from there. It took over an hour to get our entree the waiter Sean never came back during the lengthy wait to even apologize he kept walking by us as if we were invisible. He didn't even apologize when we finally did get our entree. After the entree the desert came pretty quickly and the bill was given to us instantly. We would have mentioned something right there and then but it was late being that it was New Year's Eve and my husband was sick with a cold. We were very disappointed in the service being that this was supposed to be a well established restaurant.
We had a wonderful dining experience on New Years Eve. The food was great as usual. We try to come to the Washington Inn at least twice a year because the food is so exceptional ! We are from Long Island N.Y.so we travel a long way just to enjoy a great meal here !
It was NYEve, & therefore a set priced 4 course menu. I thought the price per person was high($119 without tax, tip, & coffee) & the selections limited. No chicken dish, & if you wanted the steak, it was an Extra $30. The beef offering was a good short rib of beef, but a very heavy offering. My partner had the lamb, which he said was excellent. It was too much food & we could not eat the dessert, which looked good. As most people dining there were staying locally at an Inn or hotel, with no refrigeration, no point in bringing leftovers home. I will continue to go there but not on NYEve. My favorite has always been the bar menu which is a good value but not available on special occasions.
The dinner was as expected. My wife ordered the Ahi Tuna and it really wasn't what she expected. I had the Lobster Tail with the Shrimp Risotto which was good. One thing we didn't understand is why there wasn't any bread provided? Otherwise it was a nice night but a bit loud.
A fabulous, delicious dinner !! Service was amazing. The food was innovative and fresh.
This is our 6 th year coming to Washington house for new years. As always the food and service is wonderful.
We would definitely recommend for a special dinner in cape may!
We finished a tour early and were 1 hour early for our reservation. We were seated right away. Our waitress was informative and friendly. The wine list was overwhelming, there was a tremendous selection. There was a prix fixe menu for New Year's Eve with a great selection and good value for what they were offering. I highly recommend this restaurant for any occasion. The food was delicious, the wine superb and very attentive wait staff.
Our New Year's Eve dinner was excellent. There was a interesting choice of food within the fixed price dinner. The chocolate dessert was out of this world for chocolate lovers. This is our second time here and we will continue to come.
I know, I know... I was there for New Year's Eve and restaurants get slammed on NYE. No doubt. Buuut, we also signed up for the early bird 5:45 reservation to avoid the peak hours and ate at a time normally reserved for the Golden Girls to avoid that sort of rush. Sadly our waiters didn't know who was supposed to have our table. our server once he finally arrived was nice but didn't get our courses in order and we had 20 minute waits in between our incorrectly delivered courses. It wasn't the kitchen's fault- several diners around us got their food in a timely and correct order. They just seemed to treat us like orphan diners. Maybe it's because we weren't drinkers? Most tables that had wine and booze were much better attended. Maybe we need to become alcoholics to get better service here? In any case, food was ok, not great, served poorly and there was no acknowledgement from the staff that they screwed up. An occasional apology goes a long way, checking in on guests goes a long way. A little better reception from the staff and we might've laughed off how poorly the dinner went. Instead, just left a bad taste in our mouth. Wouldn't advise you go, because if anything goes wrong they just don't even try to take care of it. Trust me you don't want to be at the table that gets screwed up here- they have no plan.
