They are always wonderful but tonite was especially good! Great choices!
In my opinion this was the finest restaurant in Cape May and one of the finest anywhere. They have too few hours for dining, and one of their signature dishes, lobster bisque, the best anywhere, is now off the menu. Very disappointing. The wait staff was great, particularly Natalie, but all were great. But for the price, especially being from NY, I can get (the remaining) food on their menu, just as good, at many places. Imo, the time for the inn has come and gone. A shame.
Amazing....everything was wonderful...note: reservations a must
Another excellent meal from the appetizer to the dessert and coffee, everything was outstanding! Wonderful use of fresh seasonal foodstuffs.
What an excellent restaurant
Food was great from the starter Key West oysters to the Chocolate Tower desert. Steak and lobster main dishes were cooked perfectly. Service was attentive but not over the top. Restaurant is excellent location to celebrate a special occasion (in our case a 40th wedding anniversary).
We had a great anniversary dinner at the Washington Inn. We sat in the enclosed porch area which was quite cozy. Every course from the appetizer, dinner, dessert, and coffee was delicious. They have a variety of different settings from the bar, the central dining area, enclosed garden patio, to the enclosed porch. My only complaint is that the bar area was bustling making it loud where we were eating. This was disruptive to our romantic dining experience a bit.
We celebrated my birthday at the Washington Inn. The food was delicious and perfectly cooked. We were first served a basket of various warm breads w/butter. We first ordered the pear martini which was very refreshing...a bit slushy because of the pear puree in it but delicious just the same. We ordered the New England clam chowder to begin and the flavor was absolutely delicious. I ordered the duck, medium, which came perfectly cooked with a blackberry sauce and accompanied with a mushroom bread pudding and sauteed spinach. The duck portion is large so you may have to take half of it home. My hubby ordered the branzino which came whole, with skin on, head off and boneless served over roasted potatoes and veges. He said it was delicious. We then finished off with cappuccinos and shared the fromage blanc, basically a crustless cheesecake, which came with berries on the side and a tasty mango puree to drizzle on top. Staff was very attentive and friendly. Overall we were very satisfied with the meal and will return for more!
I had not been to the Washington Inn for over 4 years due to my wife's illnesses. A companion of mine had never been to the Washington Inn. She was given a weekend at a Bed and Breakfast in Cape May as a birthday gift. It seemed only natural that we would go to the Washington Inn for dinner while we were down there. It brought back all the old memories. The Inn has not changed. The service, the food, and the ambiance remains top notch. My companion's first visit was memorable. We intend to return. The Craig family has always been a class act.
We had high expectations for the Washington Inn. The menu looked great and we had been to the WI many years ago. The parking was easy enough with the valet. The ambiance is ok, it is very loud in the bar area, and the rooms are all split up in the dining room, so the original character of the building, while probably more suited to a restaurant, has been destroyed.
Food - the butternut squash soup had a wonderful smooth velvet texture but was too sweet for me, not a balanced flavor. Husband's filet mignon was "great". The pork chop - dry and over cooked. Again, had a sweet relish on top that I did not care for. Not a bad dinner, just not as high end as the prices indicated and menu promised.
Unfortunately taking the Washington Inn off of our annual dining rotation. Seems like a good place for a cocktail and small bites.
This was our first time dining at the Washington Inn and the food was fantastic from appetizers to the main course as well as their deserts. The staff also pays very close attention to the fine details to make sure the experience is top notch.
One of our favorites in Cape May . Great food and atmosphire .
We go there every time we come down to Cape May and we always love it
Excellent service and delicious food! Definitely highly recommend!!
We were celebrating our 25th Anniversary and looking for an excellent meal to complement our stay in town at another inn. The Washington Inn was recommended by several friends and lived up to all expectations. When we come back to Cape May, we will make it a point take at least one dinner at The Washington Inn.
The Washington Inn is our favorite restaurant in Cape May, NJ which has many very fine restaurants. We live in Central Pa but have managed to dine at the Washington Inn three times this year. We wish we closer so we do so more often. Our two granddaughters love the Ice Cream tasting station. The service is usually wonderful and the food is wonderful.
The Washington Inn is our “go-to” restaurant for any occasion. The food is always outstanding and you can dress up a little, if you wish. My only “negative” comment, and this is just a personal note, is that I missed the garden greenhouse in the dining room. I did not care for the aluminum panels. The Craig family and staff always make you feel at home.
The restaurant was romantic and all of the food was Absolutely delicious! We started off with the grilled octopus and scraped the dish clean. My lobster risotto and filet was cooked perfectly. That was our first time dining at the inn and we will definitely return. I am allergic to gluten and our waiter, Godfrey took great care of us.
It was a very busy fall evening in Cape May, and the restaurant was very crowded. People were stacked at the bar waiting for reservations. I believe the staff was a bit overwhelmed, as they forgot our bread basket, and never realized it. That being said, our dinner was excellent, and the servers were pleasant.
I would give this restaurant another try.
Noise level was high and not conducive to quiet conversation. The table we were sat was too close to the table right behind me and our chairs bumped. The food was good and the service was good. Lovely building. Glad it has been maintained
Food was outstanding, however I had fingerling potatoes along with risotto.
Washington Inn never disappoints. We have been dining there for many years and our meals are consistently delicious. The inn is always sparkling clean and well kept! One of our favorite places to go, love the cozy bar for before or after dinner...or any time🍷
Food was excellent. Service was excellent. The only thing I would change is the placement of the table. We were sitting in the first dining area and the traffic was heavy. Clientele passed coming in or leaving, waiters on way to kitchen, people on way to and from rest rooms.
We out ALOT; dinner, service, atmosphere and the whole experience was much more than expected! If you are in anywhere on the jersey shore this is worth the trip.
We had one of the best meals I have ever consumed. The crab cake was truly the best I have ever had. The service was impeccable. We go to cape May every year but this our first visit to the Washington Inn. We will definitely retutn
I know the executive chef is not currently on site. However, the food was just not up to its usual standards. My salad was barely dressed and ice cold when served. There was absolutely no salt at all. My swordfish was impeccably cooked by it was on a bed of poorly cooked couscous and the asparagus was inedible. It could have come from a can.
For the price, it was just not good enough. Our severe, though pleasant, took ten minutes to take our drink order or even acknowledge us. Her station was not full and two of her tables had ordered and were almost finished when we sat down. Overall a most disappointing experience. I wanted to like it, but just couldn't.
Whenever we are in Cape May for a few days, we always try to have dinner at the Washington Inn because the food is fantastic, the service is impeccable, the overall value is reasonable, and the beach plum martinis are nothing short of heavenly and devilishly delightful. Our server was Margo who was an absolute fountain of knowledge and friendliness (always smiling and talkative about WI0. My wife's surf and turf was nothing short of extremely delicious - the lobster was excellent and the filet was superb. My pork chop was quite thick, very meaty, and done right and tender. Margo suggested we try both and he was right on target!! Our desserts were very good - my wife had the tower of chocolate and I had the seasonal fruit tart. Both were excellent and, again, suggested by Margo. Margo has been with WI for over 20 years and he is an asset worth more than a ton of gold.
We love the Washington Inn and recommend it to locals and visitors alike. Personally, I love visiting the Washington Inn in the off-season, namely on the weekends. It is was the best restaurants not only in Cape May but in all of South Jersey. We love everything about WI, but most of all, we love the beach plum martinis - my wife and I love having at least two each every time we visit WI.
This is our favorite place to go when we are at the jersey shore! It never disappoints!
Wish it were closer to our home, a friendly bar scene to a great dining experience. Have been coming for 15 years!
Russ makes a great vodka gimlet in the bar. Great staff great service.
We had a wonderful30 th anniversary experience from the bar to the restaurant.
Stellar we will be back.
The food was great but I think they may have over-extended themselves with honoring reservations. Service was slow (although we didn't mind) but we did have a view of the people trying to get inside
the front door and it was constant activity.
Celebrating anniversary, waiter polite but inattentive. Food delicious but just warm. For Surf n Turf at $85 a plate, expected the meal to be much better.
My husband and I have been to the Inn many times. This time we came with friends who were never there. They loved did . As always everything was wonderful. The only complaint we have is the noise. It was so crowded and noisy we found ourselves shouting to each other across the table!
We had a lovely time at The Washington Inn. The food was tremendous and the service was excellent. The only downside was the two groups of people dining near us who were very loud and obviously like to hear themselves talk
great evening. good food and service. Brian andCandice were super
The Cape May Salts (oysters) were so sweet and fresh. The lobster tail, shrimp, and lobster risotto could not have been better. The beef fillet was large, tender and delicious. My favorite was the breast of duck (enough for 2 people) with spinach and a delicious bread pudding. Deserts were a bananas Foster (slightly different than the original, creme brule and also a delicious twenty layer cake of pastry and cream. Excellent wine selection with some bottles in the reasonable range. Lovely setting, and has only improved with age.
Service and food were outstanding. I highly recommend this place.
Great ambiance, food and service. We were surprised that you don't get soup or salad with your entree. But overall, it was a great first experience for us and we will be back!
The food was incredible and the service was awesome. One of the best restaurants in Cape May, NJ. I take visitors there every summer season, and dining there is always a wonderful experience.
We've been to the Washington Inn many times over the last 10-15 years. We are never disappointed. Our meal on Saturday night was great, servers were helpful and friendly and we love the sitting (we usually eat on the indoor porch near the bar.
