Washington Inn Ratings and Reviews
One of our favorites in the Cape May area lived up to its excellent reputation for fine dining. The wine list is one of the most extensive I've encountered and that includes many dinners at top restaurants in Manhattan. The appetizer and entree offerings are always varied and delicious.
It was a very nice, quaint little restaurant that had perfect ambiance, we weren't shouting over everyone else to talk, the wait service was prompt and courteous. All in all it was the perfect way to ring in the New Year with dinner and celebrate the evening here.
We went on New Year's Eve and didn't realize there would be a prix fixed menu...which was fine. However, the markup prices for a filet (25) or lobster tail (42) were very high. Dinner for 4 with one cocktail each ($12 martini's) was a total...with tip....of $522.00 That just seems excessive to me for a meal. But as always the service was excellent and the Inn looked beautiful for the holidays.
New Year’s Eve was lovely. We were seated next to a large rather loud group and we were asked by the hostess if we wanted another table. We thought that was so ice, but we declined, deciding to enjoy the fun of the other table. Worked out fine for us, they were a friendly group!
A Wonderful New Year's Eve Dinner Celebration
Four delicious courses were served on a prefixed menu. There were several choices which made it very appealing. Everything from beginning to end was exceptional. Our waitress , Sonata, and other staff members were very friendly and attentive. The Washington Inn is a great place to celebrate a special occasion or everyday dining . We have always enjoyed ourselves.
We were surprised to see a four course price menu of $85.00 per person. This was not indicated on their menu on open table. We have dined their previously on New Year's Eve with a regular menu especially at 5:00pm. We were surprised to see that bread was served by request only.
On a frigid, blustery night we were feted and warmed by this lovely restaurant. The whole evening was just wonderful. We thoroughly enjoyed the delicious food and all the great suggestions from James our waiter and sommelier. Even the tales of the resident ghost could not deter from the warm ambiance of this dinner. We were really made to feel like special guests and I would highly recommend.
Another stellar dinner by Chef Mimi at the Washington Inn! Karen’s service is unrivaled. She is very knowledgeable, polite with a smile and seems to always be there at the exact moment. She anticipates everything if that is even possible. Always an outstanding experience no matter what time of the year. Fantastic halibut!
My wife and I have been going to Cape May for several years for 1-2 night get aways and we eat at the Washington Inn every year. This year we endured a 5 hour car ride to get to Cape May and we were both pretty tired when we got to The Washington Inn for our dinner. The restaurant was very busy and after sitting at the table for 15-20 minutes without anyone acknowledging us we decided we were going to go somewhere else to eat. While we were outside waiting for our car, the general manager, Candace, came out and asked us to come back inside and give her a chance to make it up to us. Well, we went back inside and I have to say it was, hands down, the BEST dinner my wife and I have ever had-at any restaurant. Candace and her staff went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience and we did. The food - salad, main course and dessert was absolutely fantastic. I highly recommend this restaurant and cannot wait to go back! Thank you for your patience Candace.
It was a little hectic when we got there for a 7:30 reservation. There was a party of 14 with a wheelchair that was trying to be seated. There was confusion on where to seat them. After that mess, we were seated 10 minutes later.
Our waiter, Godfrey, was the best! The food was phenomenal as usual. The sea bass special was excellent. The oysters were too. And I had Bananas Foster dessert which is my favorite. This restaurant is still as good as it was 30 years ago when I first went there.
We have been going to Washington inn for years. We feel for the price you pay, the service has gone down. We are not demanding, but I think it is not right to bring the dinner out when the full party is unseated. In addition no one came back for at least 15 minutes to check on things. I will definitely think twice about coming back.
Amazing as always. Plenty of team members to ensure service was prompt without feeling rushed. Our server, Rachel, was friendly and professional. She was well versed in the menu and made us feel as if we were her only table. The avocado and shrimp appetizer was outstanding. The chioppino, which I've ordered in prior visits, was wonderful. The seafood was cooked to perfection and the broth was seasoned perfectly. Never disappoints. We'll be back!
Overall, our experience was excellent. The Washington Inn was an excellent choice for our special weekend, I would highly recommend this Inn for any occasion. The only detractor during our dinner was an excessively loud guest at another table. This person spoke to the members of her party in an extremely loud voice. About half way through our meal - she FINALLY started using her "indoor voice".
Best recent dining experience in Cape May.
Service was stellar- our server Ivana and restaurant manager Candace offered menu suggestions and a perfect wine pairing for our meal. Extensive, impressive wine list, impeccable cuisine, lovely service.
Perfect night out for a special occasion.
