Washington Inn Ratings and Reviews
We had a reservation on a very busy evening in cape May. Because of reasons beyond the restaurants control, we waited for 30 mins to be seated. They were very apologetic and brought us a complimentary appetizer. Classy way of doing business, and a great place!
Went after holiday house tour. The place was very crowded and had to wait 30 minutes past our scheduled invitation. When seated our waiter was attentive and good. The food was excellent. There were 3 of us and all ordered different things and enjoyed them. For dessert ordered the fruit tart which as apple. Only disappointment terribly too sweet. The waiter was nice enough to take back and let us make another choice. The holiday decor could have been more festive. Overall we enjoyed the night
My mom and I went to Washington Inn this Saturday after a fun day in Cape May. I had heard rave reviews about Washington Inn and was excited to eat dinner at such a prestigious restaurant. When we entered at 7:45 (reservation for 8pm) the hostess rudely asked us to wait in the bar area and come back closer to our reservation time. I had no idea I would be walking into a frat party scene at the bar. People were so drunk, loud, rude. Getting a drink was near to impossible. They had a party of 12+ people who were so obnoxious they kept bumping into us, spilling drinks on us, flailing around like they were at a local pub, not an expensive restaurant. It was so obnoxious that 15 minutes seemed like eternity. I finally went to the hostess and told her that if she didn't sit us now (It was 8:04) we were leaving. I made sure to also mention the scene at the bar to our waitress who was very sweet and apologetic. Our meal was quite expensive, and not so great. Combine that with the horrific ambiance, I would never go back.
Washington Inn - I know other patrons are uncontrollable, however when you see people displaying this type of behavior in your highly regarded restaurant and MANY people are complaining about them, you should step in and do something. Completely unfair for the other diners.
The Washington Inn delivered on its reputation. The service was top notch. Never felt rushed. They are not in the business of turning tables. The food was absolutely superb. From the appetizers, main course and dessert, I challenge anyone to find better quality food. Wine list was extensive but pricey. Cocktails were excellent. Must visit if you are remotely in the area.
We were looking forward to our date night at the lovely Washington Inn
We were greeted by lovely young children lining the outside steps.
We thought there was a special 🎊 party
After we were seated in the dining area-all renovated now-gave us a very cold feeling -we enjoyed more children running all over
Very noisy- we just sat quietly observing this change of environment- the gentleman at the next table dined with jeans flannel shirt and a baseball cap
We both love children
And I guess Washington Inn has made a choice to be family friendly
And that’s okay
However we will not be comfortable enjoying our date night there or bringing our guest there
We loved the other Washington Inn
Sorry you had to move so far on
The restaurant was so much better then I expected.. then we all expected.. the service was great and the food.. well.. how many restaurants does one go to when all there have only the best thing to say about he food and ambiance.. looking forward to going back again.. will recommend to others since we don’t live in Cape May, but plan on coming back more often.
The food was excellent and our server Rachel was outstanding. We went there for my 49th birthday and my children, my wife and I loved it. I am a chef in Manhattan and we did a Quick weekend get away for the holiday and it was well worth it.
We’ve been coming to The Washington Inn for years. The food is always very good. The staff is always friendly and gracious. The service is always prompt, polite and accommodating. Great for families and couples. There’s really every reason to recommend it if you’re looking for a low key, graciously served, well prepared meal.
Amazing! From the valet warm welcome and opening the door for us into the restaurant and all along the way we were greeted! Highly attentive staff that anticipated our every need. My husband and I had Thanksgiving lunch there! Delicious!!!! Excellent presentation! A+++
Went there 3 weeks ago and the food was great. Went there Saturday night and both mine and my wives dinner was not good. She got the duck that was very under cooked and fatty. I got the special Fluke and it tasted horrible. The fluke was mediocre at best, the vegetables were very bland and tough. I couldn't even bite into the mushroom slices.
The Washington Inn is a warm and welcoming restaurant with a creative menu that delivers finely crafted food with carefully balanced flavors and seasonings. The fluke prepared on a plancha was exceptional. The Cape May Salts (oysters) were large, fresh and briny. The wine list is well thought out with a wide variety of choices in each category and at different price levels. Diners should have no difficulty matching a wine to their meal and budget. But there are also excellent choices if you are celebrating something and want to splurge.
Washington inn is always a best possible choice anywhere. We have been to some of the best restaurants in NYC and Nothern NJ and this restaurant compares to any of them. Food is always perfectly prepared and presented perfectly. Everything about it is great!
Have been dining at the Washington Inn off and on for over 15 years and although the menu has changed several times over that period of time the execution, presentation and taste has been consistently good.
Only disappointment this most recent visit was that our table for two was crowded and wedged into a rather tight space but the Inn was packed so there were no other options available without having to extend our wait time which we were not willing to accept.
Wow, my wife and I went and we absolutely loved it. Friends gave us a gift card, wanting us to try it. I must say they have good taste. Everything was top notch, the property, service, food, all were exceptional. Our server was a very knowledgeable, kind and efficient gentleman. The food was excellent and the portions were generous.
We are no longer needing a new destination for our Anniversary dinners.
Had a wonderful dinner here for Cape May Restaurant Week. I got the Coconut Curried Lentil Soup, Basmati Rice, Yogurt Drizzle for my First Course. It was creamy & so delicious! Two of my dining companions got the Shrimp & Cod Fritters, Asian Slaw, Korean Chili Aioli. Both of them said the fritters were very good. My other dining companion got the Roasted Winter Squash, Parmesan Napolean. She said it was also very good.
Three of us opted for the Entree Course of the Seafood Cioppino: Clams, Shrimp, Scallops, Local Seafood, Tomato Broth, Garlic Aioli, Grilled Focaccia. The flavor of the broth was very good and the dish had lots of tasty seafood. Overall, we all enjoyed it. One of my dining companions got the Herb Euro Chicken Breast, Red Wine Risotto Cake, Dijon Creamed Mushrooms, Pancetta Braised Kale. She said it was also very good.
For the Dessert Course two of us got the Spiced Apple Crumb Cake, Caramel Sauce, Cinnamon Ice Cream & two of us got the Vanilla Bean Creme Brulee. My apple cake was wonderful, moist and full of flavor. The ice cream was also very good. My two friends loved their creme brulees.
In summary, we had an excellent meal with great service from Tina, our server, who was friendly while being both pleasant and professional. She periodically checked back in with us to see if we needed anything. Ron, her assistant, was also pleasant and cleared our plates and dishes in a timely manner.
We have been to the Washington Inn for Restaurant Week before and definitely enjoy the food, ambiance and service each time we visit. Can't wait to return!
Enjoyed a good anniversary dinner at Washington Inn. I would say the standout service was most enjoyable from walking in to the inn and being greeted to the server and bus boys. The food was excellent except the side of whole potatoes that came with the filet were really dry and flavorless. The Italian wine that was paired was not enjoyable either...too dry for pairing with beef. The seafood cioppino and filet were very delicious. The filet was perfectly cooked to rare as ordered. The oysters (all 3 types) were excellent as well as the mignonette served. The handmade cocktails were average and overpriced.
The Inn has had its ups and downs. A few years ago it was excellent, then it went downhill fast, both food and service. After a two or three year hiatus, we thought we'd give it another try for Restaurant Week. Based on just this one visit, it back on the upswing. WE had the vegetable napolean app and the cioppino entree, both excellent, and a creme brulee and a choc cake choc mousse choc granache dessert, both very good.
