Our waiter Jim S. was excellent!!! He was friendly very helpful and gave us excellent service!!!
Just great food with a fantastic wine list and in a historic location
First time there and definitely going back. Food was amazing, service was top notch. James was a great server. Pretty place that is not over the top.
Very nice dinner for Valentine's Day! I thought $30 wine corkage fee was way over the top.
It was an evening well spent. Best Valentines date ever. Great food from start to finish, great service from
the moment we arrived, our waiter was super, and of course I had a great date.. whatelse can I ask for?
The Washington Inn never disappoints. The food is amazing, the atmosphere is very romantic and Chef Mimi is the absolute best! I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Cape May.
Our favorite spot when in the area. Never disappointed in service or food. A definite must.
Have eaten at the Inn many times and always good but tonight the food and service was the best we have experienced. Superb
Continues to be great food, atmosphere and the service from Deanna was nothing short of perfect,
AS always a delightful dining experience. The ambience and food are superb . The wait staff always attentive and knowledgeable .
The inn is very elegant place for any special occasion. They have a fantastic wine list. The food from the appetizers to the desserts were fantastic. The staff were very friendly and assertive. We will definitely be back. Thanks for a wonderful meal
We were fortunate enough to be able to dine on Valentine's Day at the Washington Inn. We have been patrons of this restaurant since 1976. The Inn is so beautiful and meticulously cared for both inside and out. The staff was exceptionally friendly and attentive. Our meal was outstanding which included:
wagyu beef carpuacio and oysters with creme fraiche and caviar (apps)
tomahawk porkchop and local seafood cioppino (entrees)
and 2 very fancy dessert dishes whose names escape me but they were to die for.
This is one restaurant that is a "must" to experience when visiting Cape May.
Outstanding service from Chris our server along with excellent food preparation and quality.
Always a great meal .
The food was excellent. The service was good but VERY slow as they were VERY busy. We will go back when it is not so busy.
crowded...noisy.........after we had our soup....it was close to 50 minutes before our luke warm dinners arrived........we've had dinner here several times before, but it seems when ever there's a crowd, they can't handle it...........won't be returning......
Came to the Washington Inn for a special Birthday/ Valentine's Day dinner with my fiancé . It was a rainy Saturday night in February. The restaurant offers free valet parking, which we did not use as we were able to find street parking. We were greeted by the hostess upon entering, and she immediately said Happy Birthday to my fiancé, which was nice. The only note I made of the birthday was in the Open Table reservations, nothing more. The bar seemed a little crowded, but it was a Saturday night. We were seated promptly in the back, the tables for 2 were nicely spaced, not making it awkward. We were greeted by Margo, who was ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC the entire night. He explained the house staples and the specials for the evening. When explaining the specials he also mentioned the price, which ensured we would not have to ask the awkward question later. We ordered the crab cake appetizer, which was almost pure crab, no filler and delicious, disappointed there was only 1. Margo, for my fiancés birthday brought out an additional crab cake appetizer on the house for her, very thoughtful. We ordered 2 flat iron steaks that were cooked to perfection. Throughout the evening Margo and the other staff kept our drinks full. After dinner, we passed on dessert, opting to get out in Cape May and see what else was out there. Margo brought us another complementary dessert, a delicious coconut sorbet. Our entire experience with all of the staff and facilities at the Washington Inn was fantastic. We would definitely return and definitely recommend it. Margo was exemplary.
Good food, great service
Been going for over 15 years and always perfect. Only minor blips this time was the need to tell waiter on 3 separate occasions to "slow down". There were 4 of us for dinner and we planned to relax over cocktails and wine. He probably was concerned about turning the table on a Saturday night. Also, we weren't interested in "his favorites" and what he and his family "always order" when they dine at The Washington Inn. That ploy is so obvious and I'm surprised management of such a great dining spot allows that nonsense.
I went to the Washington Inn for my birthday dinner after a fantastic recommendation by a local B&B Owner, The Harrison Inn. It was absolutely fabulous. The food was incredible as well as the service. The octopus dish was one of the best I have ever had and will most likely dream about it. I highly recommend this restaurant for special occasions, a romantic date, or food for the foodies of the world. Thanks Washington Inn for making my birthday one to remember!
Outstanding dining experience! I had the seafood ciuppino, an incredibly tasteful blend of scallops, fish, shrimp, clams with tomato stew. My wife's crabcakes were the biggest serving we had seen, filled to the brim with fresh crab meat. Great restaurant vibe especially for a random saturday in the winter. Cannot wait to retrun
Another great meal at the Washington Inn. I had the wagyu beef carpaccio for an app and the vegan strata (quite a combo, huh?) for the main course. Both were delicious and on the light side - which was perfect since I wasn't looking to leave feeling stuffed. My husband had oyster chowder to start and the whole branzino as the main. He loved both (I sampled the chowder and it was amazing). We split dessert, a 20 layer cream cake (yes, 20 layers). So insanely good that we talked about ordering another piece since splitting the one wasn't enough. Btw, it was not heavy at all. Paper-thin layers which we actually counted very carefully and, yes, all 20 were there! As always, staff was attentive and professional.
Best restaurant in NJ. We go about 3-4 times a year. It never disappoints!
We was disappointed with our meal at the Washington Inn. My wife and I were there to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and my wife's birthday. We knew we were in Cape May in the deep off-season (last weekend in January). We had reviewed the menu at the Washington Inn before we left Philadelphia, and booked a table. The menu had a lot of creative dishes.
We had the Classic Oysters Rockefeller and Shaved Fennel & Arugula Salad as appetizers. Both were very good. As entrées we had the Espresso Rubbed Hudson Valley Duck Breast (with shiitake bread pudding, foie gras cream sauce, spinach, blackberry demi) and Seafood Cioppino (clams, shrimp, scallops, fish, spicy tomato broth, garlic aioli, toasted focaccia). They were okay, but nothing special. The shiitake bread pudding was very tasty, but the duck breast itself was pretty tough. The seafood in the cioppino was pretty ordinary. Not bad, but nothing special. We were expecting a bit more. As dessert, we split the special 20 layer crêpe, with a filling between each layer. It tasted as if the time between when it was prepared and the time it was served was far too long. The meal was not bad, per se, but lacked the excellence we had expected from the reviews and the menu.
Our server was fine, and the room was very comfortable -- tables far enough apart to give us a sense of privacy, but not isolation.
I imagine the food is better in season, when there is more turnover of ingredients. A valiant try, but not really up to level we had expected.
Very friendly staff as usual, food was great, hot and cooked to order. Never disappointed when enjoying a meal at the Washington Inn!
Very warm and comfortable on a January night. We reserved and only waited 5 minutes to be seated by friendly hostesses. We were attended to in a timely fashion by our wait staff. We started with a delicious, crisp apple salad. Our table enjoyed a delicious, perfectly cooked espresso rubbed duck breast (large portion), with shiitake bread pudding with a foie gras cream sauce, perfectly sweet and savory, spinach with blackberry demi and the other entrée, short ribs melted in your mouth and complimented the herb goat cheese grits. We don't usually order dessert, but the mousse tower was too tempting and worth the calories. One of our Cape May favorite places.
Great service, very flavorful dishes.
Washington Inn NEVER disappoints. Menu is always interesting... had a delicious cioppino and look forward to next visit
Karen Was amazing!
