The food at Wasan is something special - carefully crafted and delicious. Not your run of the mill sushi place by any means! Great service, too.
Food was great service was fast and charming, great little go to neighborhood gem!
Excellent food - my first time having sushi here (always go for the lunch bentos) and it was perfect.
Enjoyed a delicious meal before a short walk to see the Islanders play at Barclays. Really lovely Japanese, great flavors, & friendly efficient service. Having lived in Japan for more than 5 years, I am fussy about my Japanese, but I was vey happy with our meal. The steak cooked on the stone hot plate was lots of fun, and very tasty! It is a small neighborhood restaurant, clean and I would definitely enjoy another meal if close by.
We went in for a quick bite before a basketball game at Barclays. Nice quiet place with friendly staff and good Japanese food. Great sake selection too. We will return.
Dinner with our college attending, visiting son. Food is authentically Japanese and well prepared. There are some "fusion" dishes on the menu (uni with avocado) which we did not try, although they sounded appetizing. Service was prompt and unobstrusive
Waitstaff was great, duck-cucumber rolls are definitely something I’ll get again.
Lights were low and it was dark outside—would make for a good date place.
5 minutes to get seated (with reservations, there were open tables)
10 minutes before we received menus
10 minutes before order taken
asked for Suntory neat, was served on the rocks
Sushi fell apart - very poorly rolled rolls
Outside of the (delicious) pickles, everything was forgettable.
Service was horrible! We went for Valentine's day dinner. My fiance's food order was wrong, arrived 25 minutes before so she was done eating by the time my food came and we were running late for the basketball game so I had to rush. No apologies or acknowledgement of the delay. Terrible!!!!
Food is great. We went out for lunch, and the price is one of the best deals for the high quality of food in town! People who work there were nice, but not well trained and a bit awkward. Our waiter didn't know that sake is not beer. A person, who brought us lunch boxes knocked a small plate of soy sauce on the table. He had only one napkin. He didn't come back with more paper towels to clean... It's not they didn't care us. It's just they don't know how to act when things go wrong. All and all, we had a great time with great foods with good price :) We'll go back! But if you are looking for a place to impress your boss, this place may be a bit risky...at least for now.
Excellent quality of real Japanese food!
Ramen was good. The other food was just ok. The reason I can't recommend this place is the service. Want to order some drinks for the table? If you're lucky, you'll get half of what you ordered a half hour later, and don't you dare remind the waitress about the missing drinks. Want three shot glasses with that carafe of sake you ordered (instead of the two they provide)?
Get ready for some serious side eye. Want to order a special that they just told you about 10 minutes earlier? They don't have it anymore. Want to eat your meal at the same time as your friends? What do you think, you're in a restaurant or something? We got appetizers and main courses; two of the mains came out with the apps, two more a half hour later, then the last one came out another 15 minutes later. Ruined the dining experience, for sure. With a different waitstaff this place could be fine.
The food is ok but the service is consistently terrible. We ordered two chirashi sushi and a few appetizers and they delivered one sushi first without servicing appetizers. We reminded we ordered appetizers and it took 30 minutes to deliver. Then they forgot to bring another chirashi we ordered so we need to complain them again. Our next table gave up to order because the service as slow. The table behind us was complaining about bringing food without chopsticks and napkins. I have never experienced such a bad service for a long time. The service is so bad that the food quality would not matter on dining experience.
Pretty good find. Stopped here before a concert at the Barclay's Center. They originally told us they were booked for the night, but I saw an opening on OpenTable, and made myself a reservation. We were seated soon after.
My girlfriend and I split a seaweed salad, spare ribs, steak, mushrooms, and shoshito peppers.
The seaweed salad was not your traditional seaweed, however, it was good. The spare ribs were the one of the specials and were excellent. They weren't drenched it sauce which was nice. The steak was cooked in front of us on a hot stone which was very cool. The mushrooms and the shoshito peppers were also pretty good. If I went back I don't know if I would need to have the mushrooms again.
They had a bottle of chardonnay on the menu for only $35, so we decided to try that and it was good.
I was pretty disappointed in this restaurant seeing as it had such great reviews. We ordered our food, an appetizer each and our entrees and they only served us one app at a time. Would have been ok if we were sharing but we weren't - each ordered things the other doesn't eat. My shrimp tempura was not fried enough and was limp. For the entrees, we ordered a sashimi platter and a few sushi rolls. The sashimi platter was due to have 10 pieces on it, I assumed the normal size pieces of fish. The sashimi was about 1/4th the normal size. While the food was ok it wasn't impressive and while you get what you pay for, the quality/quantity wasnt matched either. The service here was also not great, asked for more water twice and they kept forgetting. I should note, this wasnt just us either. There are only 10 tables in the restuarant Lastly, the restaurant was not clean. There were flys around the tables, very visible scuff marks on the walls from chairs that were much higher than the chairs that are actually in the restaurant (like they never painted after taking over from previous business), and the bathroom had water all over the floor that was leaking from the sink.
Very nice, but make sure you give yourself plenty of time, they take time to prepare dishes.
The food was very good but it was really cold inside at first. Also the restaurant started out not too full and we were able to have conversations easily but as more people came in, the more difficult it became to talk amongst ourselves.
Also, it took almost 20 minutes to get our check which wasn't awful; just inconvenient.
We had a course menu, was bit expensive for this place but a great food & service.
They put up photos of the restaurant that closed already in Manhattan. Photos on Google -not real. Menu ... I better keep silent. If you want to throw money and ruin your dinner with food, welcome there
I have reviewed this restaurant a number of times and it remains good, but sadly the menu has really contracted since the last few visits and the many special prix fixe dinners have been reduced to one so you end up with less of a selection though what is offered is very good and cheaper than the original top of the line dinner. I wish that they would have kept the many choices even if we had to pay more for them. I would be worth it.
Love this restaurant! We live in Park Slope and often come here for drink & dinner. I am Japanese so I know Wasan is authentic Japanese cuisine prepared with care by skilled Japanese chef.
Food was inventive and delicious, service was good, but our check was incorrect, potentially merged with another guests and it took quite a while to resolve. Other than that one snafu I have no complaints and would absolutely return.
Really interesting and unusual somewhat offbeat style Japanese restaurant with a great collection of Japanese wines and spirits. Also, there are good suggestions if you are not sure what to order. I really do enjoy going back.
We arrived on a Monday night. No tables filled. Just 2 people at the bar. Waitress really had trouble with English. But, food was actually good, so the only reason for 4stars. Really 3.5 experience.
Really fine Kappo style Japanese restaurant. Great selection of food and sakes. Very fine complete dinner packages. Really recommend the sea eel tempura. Some great unusual dishes. Highly recommended.
Good choice near Barclays but go early as service can be very slow.
nicely done Wasan our second time here with friends and didn't disappoint
Very nice and charming spot, delicious food at great prices. Friendly and warm.
Very good Japanese "kappo" style restaurant which is not common in NYC. Very fine food preparation and a great collection of Japanese sakes and other spirits. There is a sake sommelier to guide you through your choices. Excellent series of tasting menus with my favorite having a sea eel teriyaki. Very good value and interesting flavors. One of my favorites in Park Slope and worth a trip if you like Japanese food.
Everything was perfect for Saturday brunch. I will definitely come back again.
Had a terrible experience here. The food we received was good however, we never got the majority of it. After waiting half an hour wondering where our six sushi rolls were, we finally inquired. We were told they were coming right out as several other tables received their food that had been seated well after us. After 15 more minutes of waiting we told them to forget it. They were unapologetic about it and there was no manager around. It was a Saturday evening and it seemed as if one person was in the kitchen. Would not recommend if you don't have two hours to dine.
Food was very fresh and delicious. The staff is nice and attentive. Close to the train station. I would come back if I'm in the area again.
this place is a gem! chef's tasting menu for $55 and there were plenty of options to choose from. service was very attentive. i had forgotten to mention i have food allergies until the 1st appetizer came and it contained something i'm allergic to and they were very gracious to make me a new appetizer. will definitely come back.
Service was a little slow but the food and sake were very good.
Small but very good food and the service was great. sat at the bar with three friends. Great little spot. Allie the waiter was the best
Variety of choices on the menu, food was excellent. Even basic sushi rolls were outstanding. Friendly staff, but a little slow. Small space, so make a reservation. Highly recommend, unless you are in a rush.
We had to wait for 30 minutes for a glass of water. Then, when he brought it, it was with ice, I asked to change it to a no-ice , it took another 15 minutes to get it. We ordered tasting menu $55 with sake pairing. The food was like from a cheap sushi place from the corner. Not worth the money at all. Waste of time and money.
My family and I enjoyed the ambiance, food and professional staff. They explained Japanese cuisine in an easy way. It was an excellent experience.
the food was very very good, but the service was outstanding: attentive, friendly, forthcoming, & right on the nose!
