About Ward's House of Prime Milwaukee
Collectively, we’ve been in the steakhouse business for as long as you’ve been craving a truly unique dining experience – maybe even longer. At Ward's House of Prime Milwaukee, we learned what you wanted from a steakhouse and then we designed a restaurant where high-end entrees are served at a reasonable price in an atmosphere that’s upscale yet relaxed.
At our steakhouse, we want you to feel just as comfortable ordering full-plate entrees in the main dining room as you would ordering from the bar menu and watching sports in the lounge. While prime rib is our specialty (served every day), we also give special attention to seafood, chicken, veal and vegetarian entrees as well as our lighter fare of appetizers, sliders and stonefire flatbreads. And we offer a variety of martinis, beers, cocktails and wines by the glass – as well as an extensive list of 500 wines by the bottle, all at a fair price.
We hope you’ll dine with us soon!

Ward's House of Prime Milwaukee Ratings and Reviews
We arrived 15 minutes before our reservation, and they apologised for not having our table ready. We sat at the bar, and I was very impressed with the world class selection of whiskey they offered. We both had prime rib. I ordered the 16oz, which was probably closer to 20oz.I paired it with a glass of 12yr old Red Breast. It was hands down, the best steak I have ever tasted. I wish I could remember our servers name, he was friendly, engaging, and made us feel like we were the only 2 people in the restaurant. It was a wonderful experience.
It should be noted that you definitely get what you pay for. If price is the first thing you look for on the menu, this probably isn't the place for you. Plan on a minimum of $100, depending on how thirsty you are.
The food all around was amazing the wine list and drinks are exceptional. I was drinking the Apple Old Fashioneds omg so good. The price is quite high but the food is nothing to be scoffed at, at any rate in my opinion it’s pushing the upper limit of value but I will be going back, it’s a great once in a while place for someone on a budget like me. My check for 1 appetizer 2 meals 2 old fashioneds 2 sodas and 2 deserts was $150+
We were impressed with the service and environment offered by Wards. I ordered my prime rib medium and the meat was very good. The only problem was I've never liked the type of steak that has a amount of jelly-like fat that naturally comes with prime rib. Think I'll stick to filet mignon in future.
Eaten at Ward's four times before and was excellent each time. This time, the steak had no flavor and the medium rare prime rib was so tough, the steak knife would barely cut through it. The chocolate cake for dessert was awful also. Quality of food nowhere near what it was the last four times we have eaten there. For the cost of the meal, very disappointed and will not be returning. Service, however, was excellent.
Exceptional food. I had the 16oz prime rib with a twice baked potato. I also had shared the brussel sprouts and had the lobster bisque. The prime rib was fantastic as usual paired nicely with a horseradish cream sauce. My only criticism was the Bisque. While the flavor was good the lack of lobster meat was glaring (there were lobster bits but that’s about it). Other than that the food and the overall experience was great and I would recommend to beef lovers everywhere.
Great steaks and seafood cooked to perfection. The server forgot when I told him it was my sons birthday. He hurried to bring out a free dessert. Which we all shared. Even though the food was fantastic, it came with a high price. I would probably return in the future.
We were spending a weekend in Milwaukee at the Pfister and Ward's House was just around the corner, so we could walk. We had not been there before, so assumed an "average" steak-house. Bottom line, we were very pleasantly surprised. Ward's is a gem, probably known best to a clientele who also took a chance. The menu was somewhat expensive, however, the food possibilities were nice, the food itself (from beginning to end) was dynamite!! We had seafood for one and steak for the other and both were superb; perfectly cooked and seasoned. The service was outstanding - the young man who waited on us was personal, attentive without being intrusive and made good recommendations as to food, wine and dessert. The room was not large, well designed without being garish - it was, in our minds, exactly what one would want for an upper-end upscale, yet casual, restaurant. The wine selection was excellent with opportunity to have a single glass, if we chose, while still being of top quality. Oh, and the coffee after dinner was great! Our experience was awesome and easily worth the prices. Our only complaint was that we over-ate, so the "waddle" back across the icy street was adventurous!! It is most definitely a place we will add to the list of Milwaukee restaurants we love to return to.
Most people say "um. . . . I've walked past it many times . . . . dunno if I've ever been there though". Go.
Just go . . . . reserve a table in the dining room. Classic fine dining with the best prime rib anywhere. I of course read other reviews. I find fault in all of the ones who claim it is not a value (it is NOT a "value" if yoiu are used to eating medium prime rib at Applebees on Tuesday nights . . . . I'm talking about REAL prime rib, made to order and served with class and style. Dinner, cocktails and deserts for four, in a fine dining establishment, costs less here than a semi-vintage bottle of wine.
The service was fantastic, at least four people attended us, without being intrusive.
Any restaruant who serves Red Breast (neat of course) as their "house" Irish REALLY knows food, and foodies.
I will be back.
We visited when in town for the Nutcracker. We were there once before and they had changed their menu and we were not aware since it was still the same on OpenTable. Upon finding that they no longer had the item we came for, lamb chops, we were very disappointed, but not for long. After letting our server know how disappointed we were she disappeared and came back and informed us that the chef was going to prepare lamb chops for us anyway! The owner came out to let us know someone had run to the market to get lamb chops and the chef would be preparing them to our desire. Now That's What I Call Customer Service. Before we could finish our appetizer and salad the lamb chops were on the table and they were delicious and perfectly prepared! The scallops were also delicious.
Took my Grandma here before we went to the Celtic Thunder in Milwaukee. Couldn’t have been more pleased with everything. My husband and I dine out at high end restaurants quite often, and you can be quite sure Ward’s is at the top of our list for The Best Romantic setting, Steak and Seafood Restaurants in Wisconsin. My grandma and my friend who came along this time, both do not out at high end restaurants too often, but they could not stop saying how delicious every bit of food we ordered was, right down to the homemade dressing, and soups. Its in the little things that you can taste the details of good quality restaurant, and Ward’s is it!
I was treated to one of the most tender, flavorful filets I have ever eaten, unfortunately the other filet was just a little dry. The restaurant was decorated for the holidays which made it quite festive. It was quite noisy from an office (?) party going on in the bar area.
Great food, great service, what else do you need?
Only thing I would change was to have some sort of music play softly (maybe a dinner jazz) in the dining area. The tables aren't overly close to one another, but with no other noise around, you can hear other people's conversations pretty clearly.
I took my friend there for her birthday. We were there for lunch. I mentioned we were celebrating a birthday when I made the reservation through Open Table and never mentioned it again. The restaurant was surprisingly empty when we were there. I'm not sure why because this place is awesome! Our server was very attentive and pleasant. We both enjoyed our meals tremendously and the lunch items are reasonably priced. At the end of our meal they gave my friend a choice of cakes to pick from with their compliments for her birthday. It was such a nice lunch and we weren't rushed. This is our favorite place to go. We know we will always have good food, service and everything is always very clean and everyone is friendly.
First time I have ever been here and will be going back. The Appetizer was wonderful(cheese and meat plate). We both had Steak and Lobster which were cooked perfectly to order. We also both had lobster bisque soup which was very good, but the lobster seemed a little over cooked. Overall, I would recommend Ward's to friends and family
We love Wards. Always great food and great service. I tried the filet and scallops, though I am normally a ribeye gal. Both were delicious! We had the mac n cheese with andouille as our side. We couldn't finish it, so brought it home to enjoy. So glad we did.
Our first visit to Wards was awesome. This time we ate at 5. The walleye was great but the potatoes were yesterday’s fingerlings wrinkled and reheated. Thank goodness we were given a double baked when I called it to their attention. The steak could not be beat. The strawberry salad was the best salad I’ve had all season. Our waiter was hard to find and the coffee was lukewarm at best. Nonetheless, I would definitely go back.
